Handwriting: Cursive, Grades 2 and Up [Brighter Child] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Handwriting: Cursive, Grades 2 and Up Review: Great practice book for my 7 year old. - Now that most schools do not even teach cursive writing, I bought this affordable book so my 7 year old can learn on his own. It is a nice book with pages of practice for each letter. There are also silly sentences at the back to help my son connect his cursive letters. I agree with those reviewers about eh letter "Q". It should be written like a curly "2" rather than the book's normal Q with a bit of squiggle at the end. I am not sure why they have that. Review: For Grandchildren - I got this book (really two of them) for my 8 yr. old Grandaughter and soon to be 10 yr. old Grandson. I haven't mailed them yet but I'm sure the children will love it. They are both the artistic type and want to teach themselves cursive! This with help guide them and be fun. Unfortunately I've heard the school system (state or nationwide?) are not going to teach cursive writing at school. I feel this is a very big mistake. Children need and want to learn this. After all some of the most important documents are written in cursive--Declaration of Independence for one. Electronic reading and typing/texting is great, but cursive is an art and I would hate to see it vanish. (Especially since I tend to write to my grandchildren in cursive and I want they to enjoy hearing from me. So anyone should get this practice book for children of elementary grade ages. It's not just for 2nd to 4th grade and I wish it didn't say that on the front as it might discourage children in higher grades.

Good but...
Bought this for my first grader who was very eager to learn cursive. Love that there are numbers to show where to start and where to go when making the letters. It offers both capital and lowercase letters to practice as well as short words and in the last pages of the book there are sentences that incorporate both capital and lowercase letters. However, something that really bothers me (which was mentioned in another review) is the way that the capital letter Q was changed. In this book, it teaches the capital letter Q looks just like a printed letter Q except that the line has a little wave to it. I learned that the Q looks like the number 2 and just about every where I looked on the internet, the Q is supposed to look like the number 2. I don't know if this book is hoping to change that or if someone was lazy or if the proofreaders missed it. Other than that, I think that this is an excellent book to help those wanting to learn how to write in cursive.

Good resource for cursive learning and practice!
I bought this for my almost 7 year old son who kept asking me to learn more about cursive. It has been a great tool for him to learn and practice cursive. He will be entering 2nd grade in the fall and hasn't received any formal cursive instruction yet. It has been great for him but he was already interested in learning, so I can't speak to kids who might not be interested and whether this would encourage them to be more interested. It gives enough room to see examples, and practice and I would definitely recommend it.

Write On!
Great for teaching children how to write in cursive. Many schools have abandoned teaching cursive writing because so much is done electronically or digitally. I'm a grandmother from the "old school" who believes that you should be able to communicate in writing even if computers should disappear (although I know that's unlikely). A great learning tool.

Loving This Book
NYC Schools suddenly stopped teaching cursive halfway through third grade. Didn't even finish the alphabet. Now, three years later, my girl wants to learn proper cursive. We are using this book to review what she had learned before and continue as an independent study. It's simple cursive that's easy to follow with little guidance from me. We received it today and she's already done A and B.

Bring Back the Cursvie
We are homeschooling and I insist that my son learn cursive. Shame on our government for allowing this skill being lost. Sorry, I have been using computers for 20 years and I still write as much as I use the computer. Handwriting is not becoming obsolete because of computers. This is a great book for kids to learn each letter and advance onto words. My son is already doing sentences after just completing the letters and words.

Should have looked closer at the preview pages
This may be better for older children learning... Each pages, only gives you 3 letters to trace and then you are on your own... not great for my 2nd grader who needed to trace a lot more to get the hang on the new shapes, especially since cursive is now slanted and needs more control to learn to make the shapes more automatic.... she got very frustrated trying to make the letters... I got another book with a page of traceable letters, and after that, she really got it and was ready to make them on her own.

My daughter loves this book. It isn't too difficult or too easy, and the practice sentences at the back are very handy.

I ordered this book for my son's handwriting practice. Probably a good book, but not the right style his school was using so haven't used it.
