Correct oil amount ignore reviews saying not enough oil
These are individual liters, not quarts. Mercury suggests 3 Liters for the oil capacity and not 3 quarts making this oil change the correct oil amount. After changing the oil, run the outboard for 5 minutes, and check the level. The level should measure in between the low and high mark. These outboards are not meant to be filled all the way to the top mark like a car.

Perfect for 2016 Mercury 40HP 4-Stroke Outboard
Exactly as advertised. I have a 2017 Tracker 170 Pro with a 2016 Mercury 40HP 4-Stroke and according to the manual the 3 quarts are the right amount of oil. If you have a bigger engine I stress on checking your manual before purchasing this kit as the filter fits bigger outboardss but the oil may not be enough. I think the negative reviews are not fair as the listing is clear that it comes with 3 quarts. I have given this product 4 stars because the oil filter does not have a cover and rust or debris may get inside. Fortunately mine was fine but I can see how some customers have given the product negative reviews because of rust in their filters upon arrival.

Check your engine specs for amount of oil needed.
Was perfect “except”…. Know your motor specs. Bought kit for my 40hp mercury 4 stroke EFI. Kit has 3 quarts which was about 3/4 of a quart less than I needed. My fault & everything else was spot on, got another quart next day so all good so still 5 stars. Will order again when needed.
