Root Touch-Up Semi-Permanent Hair Color Blending Gel, 4 Dark Brown

First off- you have to use it correctly as it states. Apply it on freshly washed, wet hair! Not dried hair after a shower, even if it’s clean. Your hair has to be wet and clean. I’ve applied this fresh after a shower, and to clean dry hair, and when my hair was dried the dye did not work at all. Also leave it on for 20+ minutes, and rinse off with cold water. My Hair type: typical Asian, black hair. I have had early greys since my late twenties, and it’s mostly around the front of my face. This lasts 5-6 washes before my greys start to pop up again. It’s saved me HUNDREDS of dollars by not going to the salon to get a touch up. I love how I can reuse the tube. I’ve used the same tube 4+ times now, and there’s still about 1/3 left. I think this product is great for sections of greys, I have not tried it on a full head or greys. 10/10 would recommend

I would give it no stars, if I could this was the worse hair color I’ve ever bought! The product did not provide any gray coverage and minimal coverage otherwise that lasted days. It could be that it was old product so maybe shop around. I’m disappointed because I still need the color, but I have to wait so I don’t cause damage to my hair.

Best if applied on a paper plate with a q-tip or a finger but wear plastic gloves. The item is super runny and stains your fingers. It is also permanent until hair is washed out. The red color makes hair look natural but do not use the bottle straight onto your hair roots.

I love this product but I use it with 10% developer on freshly washed/clarified hair. Also my hair is fairly porous and just soaks up product unlike less porous hair, which I believe makes a big difference in how this products effectiveness varies from person to person. After washing hair, towel drying, and deep conditioning the ends, I mix the the Clairol Root Touch-Up with 10% developer from the beauty supply store in a mixing bowl in a 1:1 ratio. Then apply in sections to the roots with a hair dye application brush. Let that sit 10 minutes (it already sat on some parts 10+ minutes, due to application time). Then comb the color down to mid shaft and wait 10 minutes more. Rinse very well (rinse your shower too!) then condition. Not a perfect method but the cream is easier to apply than thinner dye mixes, and I'm using the mildest developer which hopefully will help maintain hair health over time. I used to use it without the developer too, and that was good for a while. Using this on clean hair helps a lot.

This was my first time using the product, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I could in my hair evenly and made sure every strand was well saturated. I left the product on for 20 minutes as suggested for resistant grays. The product took everywhere except my temples and the front of my hairline. I’m not sure why it didn’t stick in these areas. It’s a decent product if you’re short on time and need a quick touch up. I probably will not purchase this again.

I normally do not write reviews but I am on this one because I am aware of all the negative reviews and do not want the product to be discontinued. I have been using this product for about 2 years, every month to a month and a half between my salon gray covering. I am Asian with very dark hair, and even with "dark brown" the result has been somewhat mediocre. The last couple of times I noticed that it hardly covered anything. Then I found out that this product can be used on the wet hair by reading the Q&A, and also read on the internet that the tip for the home hair coloring is the heat. So, I suspected that the reason it didn’t work very well is due to this extreme cold weather, and tried following: - Got in the shower and shampooed the hair to wash out all the hair product - Towel-dried the hair and applied the product on damp hair - Briefly blasted the applied area with hot air with a hair dryer (not completely dry, just to apply a little bit of heat) - Put the shower cap on to retain the warmth and left it for about an hour (probably too long but I wanted to make sure) - Rinse with cold-to-lukewarm water, apply conditioner, and repeat the rinse And Voila! It worked, covering the gray probably the best ever in my previous touch-ups. This time, all the gray was colored, enough to blend in with the rest just right. No more eye-sore white sticking out! I feel that the key is the heat so I will play around with other parameters little more (no pre-shampoo, shorter leaving time, etc) next time.

Just what I was looking for. I needed a product that would get me thru a few days before my colorist appointment, and this is perfect. Follow the instructions. It is NOT meant to be permanent. It was easy to use. I didn’t have to mix anything. I did not shampoo afterwards, just rinsed and I was ready to go. It comes with a cap so you can use the same tube more than once. I left it on for 20 minutes because I have stubborn grays, and it did a decent job covering and the color looked good. I will be buying again.

Terrible result. I applied the gel per box instructions; specifically I shampooed my hair, towel dried and even blow dried it slightly to achieve damp hair instead of sopping wet hair. I saturated my grey roots along my middle part as well as my face framing grey hairs with the gel. The instruction recommends letting the product sit for 20 minutes for stubborn greys, which I did. I then washed it out and applied conditioner, per instruction. Sadly, it did not work and my grey roots remained the same. Not only did I waste time, I also applied a chemical on my hair that did nothing, probably slightly damaging my hair. I have black hair so it’s possible that this product does not work well on dark hair. But, the color I purchased was black, so I’m not entirely sure what went wrong. I won’t waste my time with this product again and I’m sticking to permanent hair dye going forward.

Have to try it and leave for at least 30 mins hoping to get better coverage. The applicator brush is great and the tube can be used twice, coverage wise is not great but will give it another try and revise again, possibly with black color as I got the dark brown and is not enough for black hair
