Black Chalkboard Paint

I recently used Rust-Oleum 301450 Specialty Chalkboard Paint to transform a wall in my kitchen into a functional chalkboard, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. The application was straightforward; I used a foam roller to apply the paint, which went on smoothly without any streaks. The coverage was impressive, and I was able to coat approximately 95–120 square feet with the 30 oz can, as advertised. After allowing the paint to dry for about 30 minutes, I waited the recommended 24 hours before “conditioning” the surface by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire area and erasing it. This step is crucial for optimal performance, as it helps prevent permanent marks. The finished chalkboard surface is smooth, scratch-resistant, and erases cleanly with a damp cloth. It’s perfect for jotting down grocery lists, leaving notes, or letting the kids draw. One of the standout features is its versatility. This paint can be applied to various indoor surfaces, including wood, metal, concrete, masonry, drywall, plaster, glass, and unglazed ceramics, making it ideal for a range of DIY projects. Works as it should. Definitely prime with a good sealer and sand between each coat of primer and chalk paint. Apply it as fast as you can as it dries quickly.

This chalkboard paint worked well. It stays on the surface and effectively transforms it into a usable, erasable chalkboard that can be used for years. We’ve used it on multiple surfaces. The color is accurate to the description. We only bought one can of paint and used it on a door, one side of a dresser, and a space on the wall that was about 3x3ft.

This has been excellent so far. I used it on some plywood chalkboards. I sanded it to clean them up, did a coat, let it dry, did another coat, let it dry. They've been perfect with the kids to draw on.

It works well. We put it on our bedroom doors. The only problem I had with it is you definitely need a second coat. It's very streaky and see through if you just use one. So for 3 doors I had to get an extra can.

Takes a few coats, but works well. Hopefully it will hold up over time. I highly recommend you get your board as flat and smooth as possible. Put on a coat, let dry, sand with 220, and repeat for 4-5 coats. Make sure to pre-chalk it before use. (Lay the chalk on its site and color in the entire board, erase, it and its ready to use).

I really like this paint. I used it to paint my frig! I was tired of the stainless steel, as it shows all fingerprints and streaks from cleaners in the sunlight. I had done this before so I wasn't worried. Cleaned and ever so slightly sanded frig and put 2 coats of this paint. I had intended to write on it, but it looks so good I will prob just leave it alone. Rec'd several compliments already.

Took a couple coats on an old piece of plywood and the kids love it. 3 stars because it doesn’t seem to want erase easy… just keep adding coats I guess.

This chalkboard paint works really well. It goes on smoothly, dries evenly, and turns my wall into a usable chalkboard. My kid loves drawing on it. It wipes clean easily and doesn’t leave a mess. Very happy with this purchase!
