You don't need a lot and it dries really quick (blow). I do chalk between every lift but you don't have to with this chalk. The reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is the ease of use, you have to shake it every time you use it and have to get it out of the bottle. But I think every liquid chalk bottle has that.
