I finally had to replace my 9 year old FM350. This new one, MM371W, is awesome. The control board is no longer within the cylinder unit itself, makes programming so much easier. I had an issue at the very end of the install while I was setting the closed position limit. It closed, then wouldn’t respond to any of the control board buttons or the remote. I was at a loss. I called the dreaded technical support. I was on hold for like 3 minutes! AND it was a Saturday, the worst day to call any tech support. The support was amazing. He had me walk back down to the gate, he had me clear the settings and walked me through the closed limit procedure. So once you’re done setting the limit, you have to hold down the return button until you hear a beep, this locks in the settings. This last step is what I missed, it was waiting on me to hold down that enter button. The gate speed is at least twice as fast as the old model FM350. But it slows down when it gets close to the full open or closed position so the gate doesn’t slam open or closed. All my old remotes where also easy to program to the new gate. Hopefully I’ll get 9 years out of this one as well!

MM371 w/ electronic lock Update! Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I bought a replacement gate opener, same model. My plan was to replace the unit without learning an entirely new install process. I planned to turn it off when at home, since I'll never trust Mighty Mule again. Well, I installed the EXACT SAME MODEL, in the exact same place and surprise, it has about half the power of the model I bought two years ago. It won't even push over the slightest bump in terrain (i have a helper wheel attatched to the bottom). And this was with the stall force turned up to max. I look at the packaging, and see Made In Mexico. So I guess they switched from China to Mexico, probably because of the fat 25% tariff on Chinese products. And when that happened, they sacrificed quality (hilarious that the Chinese version was actually better). So I packed up the "new and improved" Mule and sent it back. I am done with Mighty Mule forever. Did I mention the arm was assembled so poorly that the "weathertight" housing had a gap of 1/4" running along one side? Yes, they seemingly over torqued a screw and just said "yeah, good enough". So, I guess they have no QC either.... what an embarrassment of a product. C'est la vie! Original Review: After 2 years installed, woke up to find my dogs missing! We ran out and found them on the road. At first, we're thinking we carelessly left the gate open. I manually locked it, just in case, because my wife had mentioned some strange behavior a few times previously, but I never witnessed it personally. I go in to take a shower and my wife is yelling for me, the dogs are gone...again. I LOCKED the gate MANUALLY, and it still opened!!! What is the point of having a manual locking mechanism if the controller can override??? This time one of my dogs was truly gone. We searched for 20 minutes, up and down the road, panicked at the thought that our beloved dog was gone. No thanks to Mighty Mule, we found him coming out from a neighbors house. We got back inside the gate and I disconnected it from the hinges, and as I did that, I watched as the arm engaged (again, with no remote being depressed). It continued to cycle open and closed a dozen times until I disconnected it from the battery. What sort of gate opener is built so that a short circuit cycles the only function meant to keep people safe? Where are the safety redundancies? And again, the manual keyed lock, SHOULD NOT BE CAPABLE OF BEING OVERRIDDEN BY THE CONTROLLER!! What's the point of a manual keyed lock if it cycles open like normal? And before anyone assumes there was a fault in a signal device, we have no sensors, no driveway loop, just simple remote control access. All of the remotes were out of range from the gate at the time of the incidents. This is just poor workmanship, period. Mighty Mule sources their manufacturing to Smart Technologies out of Hong Kong. Do not trust cheap Chinese workmanship with the security of your family.

Great upgrade to my previous Mighty Mule gate opener. This model opens my fate twice as fast as the old opener. I have installed two and my neighbor purchased one for his property. Very pleased with this unit.

Bought the MM371 single gate operator in June 2020 to replace a MM FM350 that died after about 4.5 years. Had to make a slight adjustment to the mounting bracket attached on the gate post for it to work. Since the MM371 has a separate control box (it was built into the FM350 arm) I mounted it on a piece of 2" PVC pipe secured in the ground. There was no wire included to go from the power supply that plugged into the 120V outlet so I used the same wire I had used on the FM350 . This caused problem 1. The MM371 power supply outputs DC whereas the FM350 used AC, I didn't realize that. I got the polarity wrong so it didn't work until I figured out my error. Their instructions actually do mention connecting red and black wires, but there weren't any wires included in my kit, that would have prevented this error. The original unit also had a defect. The terminal block for the green and white wires from the operator had not been soldered to the board and came off when I attached the wires. After a long wait on hold tech support said they would send me a new PCB but since they were out of the boards for the MM371 they would send me one from a MM571 as they were the same. Well, they sent me an entire MM571 kit in the original packaging. I swapped out the boards and sent back the MM571 (MM paid all shipping). Set up was fairly straightforward and the unit stops at the closed position very accurately. The range on my remote is over 100 ft across open ground and I was also able to program my old remotes to work with the unit. But after two days the unit would not work. When the button was pressed it the arm motor would start for a fraction of a second then the unit would beep once and that was it every time. Another call to tech support finally diagnosed battery replacement. Replacing the group U1 lawn mower battery did solve the problem and the unit now works well. However, my old battery voltage indicated a full charge and continues to even a week later. I was told by the very knowledgeable tech that the unit is very sensitive to voltage drop and if the voltage at any time drops 10% it stops the unit and lets out one beep. This fault, or error indication, is not covered in the manual. This is likely to prevent damage to the motor due to under voltage. All electric motors pull maximum current at startup causing a voltage drop (example - in some houses with incandescent lights they dim for a 1/2 second when , say the A/C starts) so the sensing circuit should be locked out for a second or at least part of a second. Also, If it is so sensitive to this, the wire for the battery should be a little heavier (what they sent looks no heavier than 18 gauge) to reduce voltage drop during the start up current surge. The gate does open and close pretty fast, but I'm a little concerned the start up torque could eventually cause a fatigue failure of my aluminum gate post.

So far so good, this is my 3rd mighty mule gate opener first 2, I purchased from tractor supply. The first one was struck by lightning, so I learned to ground the gate, also I've always ran mine off of battery and hard wire to plug with a lightning proof plug outlet. The second one lasted about 10 years then just started going haywire. I've never solar power as of yet. With This new mighty mule gate opener I might hook up a gate lock also with this newer feature of controlling it by phone might be nice. We'll see, but overall I've been pretty happy with the mighty mule gate opener brand. Also my gate is a chain link fence single gate. For anyone looking for a decent gate opener I don't think you can go wrong with the mighty mule brand.

I had to replace my gate opener when the Amazon driver crashed the gate with his van. THe MM350 is no longer made, so I got the MM371W Opener. First, the mounting hardware was all different than the MM350. However, that is a good thing as this one mounts much sturdier than the previous one. Second, the Control Board is in a remotely mounted box, NOT inside the opener. That makes programming MUCH easier. Additionally, the ON/OFF switch is on the Control Box, NOT the bottom of the operator. Third, the antenna now comes out of the Control Box as well. The unit came with a small antenna that mounts to the side of the Control Box, but after reading reviews, I bought an external antenna kit and mounted mine high atop the pole rather than on the box. The OLD remotes can easily be programmed to the new unit so it's seamless to the users. The new Gate open FASTER than the old one which is a blessing. The closing time can be adjusted like the old unit using a resistance pot on the Control Board. Instructions are easy to follow, but if your replacing the old unit this installation is even simpler. While it was a pain to have to replace my gate and opener, I'm actually glad that the Amazon guy made it necessary because this unit is an improvement - only because they don't still sell the old one. Highly Recommend the MM371W.

This the third and LAST mighty mule gate opener I will ever own. In the last 14 years we have owned a MM350 and a MM360. Both lasted about seven years each and worked very well. Of course improvements have to be made so along comes MM371W. Where to begin? Installing the automatic lock...I spent hours trying to install it according to the Mighty Mule manual and it did not work. Ok, I call customer service on a Saturday and am put on hold multiple times and hung up on multiple times until I finally get thru only to be told to keep following the manual?! Instead I watched a ten minute youtube video and found the correct way to wire the lock. See picture below. The manual is just wrong. Setting the closed stop position is a nightmare and once again the installation manual is no use. It never wants to stop where it is supposed to no matter how many times I follow the instructions and try to set it. So this time I call customer service on a Monday and manage to get someone. This representative says try moving the gate bracket around on my gate. Sure. So I do that, didn't work. Called back and spoke to a different representative and after a 20+ minute phone call all he could come up with is "just play with it and tweak it." Great... I do that and first time the wind blows after I open the gate it will never fully shut so have to jump out of the car and close it manually. Two good things about the MM371W are the control panel is in a separate, sealed box you can mount on the gate pole and it makes the inevitable, ongoing adjustments very easy to do. Second the opener itself appears well sealed against the elements and there are no critical components inside to be damaged by the elements. All in all sadly disappointed with my MM371W. Next time I will buy a competing brand. Honestly, you would be better off buying a chain and lock. A lot less frustrating and a whole lot cheaper.

Had a 350 that worked well for a number of years but started becoming unreliable and I wasn't able to successfully troubleshoot it. The 371 was a drop in fit but needed to mount the separate control box. It's working well and I really like the increased speed of opening and closing.

This gate opener has worked flawlessly for the last 4 months it has been cold here for the last little while and with a small car battery and the mule sloar panel no issuses at all! Reccomend

I had to buy this, as a replacement to a MM360 that I bought in 2018. The circuit board acted up, and of course, MM doesnt carry parts.....but were happy to sell a new one. (planned obselecense, anyone)? So now I have a useless MM360 that gets chucked in the garbage, and the 371 is its replacement which was twice the price. This product is cheaply made and also has reports of fauly logic boards as well. I installed it, and because its different than the 360 was (even though its claimed to be a direct replacement), I had to drill more holes in the gates, and realign everything. Because the wiring is different with the board outside the unit, it was a complete rewiring job as well. And I look forward to MM deciding that they will replace this model in a couple of years, and not carry any other parts for it....but would be happy to sell me another one. Dont buy this product. Look at the reviews for other products, they have a better record than these clowns and from what I udnerstand, stand by the product.

Needed to replace a gate part and this replaced the whole part cheaper than just getting the part

This was easy to install and has worked without a problem for about 1 month. Shipped on time and worked as expected.
