Great Product, saved me a bunch of money!
Amazing Product! Saved me from having to buy a whole new set of tv speakers when I bought a new Samsung tv that did not come with an optical audio out. Didn't work when I first plugged it in, but then realized it had a power switch lol! Turned on the power switch and the tv immediately detected the device. Adapter works great, no issues with sound quality or any delay!

an easy conversion HDMI eArc to Optical sound port for hearing aids output
Perfect for what I needed - a very simple but effective solution. My Samsung TV had sound output port through HDMI eArc. I needed to convert that to an Optical sound output port that I could plug my Phonak Bluetooth adapter in so I could get the sound into my Hearing aids when the HDMI port was enabled. It worked! Yes, I could connect my HA's directly though Bluetooth in the TV but this path had some problems for us that was avoided when I outed the sound through HDMI instead of direct bluetooth to the TV. Now, both paths work.

Works Great!
I bought a newer Samsung TV to replace an older one that died in my living room. The new TV has an eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) HDMI output that connects to a compatible sound bar or audio system. Unfortunately my older Visio sound bar has no ARC HDMI input but it does have a Toslink/SPDIF optical input. This OREI DA41 adapter was just the ticket to connect the eARC to the Toslink. The TV recognized the adapter as soon as it was powered on (don't forget to slide the switch on the adapter to the 'on' position!) and it works as intended. As mentioned in the DA41 product description, with this kind of setup the TV volume controls don't inherently adjust the level of the audio going out on the eARC interface, but it was easy to set up my system to have the main remote we use control the volume on the soundbar instead.

Worked once
Work first time I used it to convey Samsung TV HDMI ACR to needed optical soundbar. Then never worked again. Tried contacting company for support through email on their site, never got a response. Bad experience for me and lost money.

Plug and Play, great product, Now on First replacement
I read Jason C's review and ordered: Works well so far, once i figured out how to. Using with a Samsung smart tv with no audio component or optical outputs, only eArc hdmi or Bluetooth. Had to set audio pcm and make sure i had a high quality hdmi cable. Works better than Bluetooth for sound quality. My situation is almost identical: New low price Samsung 50" from Walmart (DU7200B) ,with only eArc hdmi or Bluetooth for outputs. Have a older Sony receiver (STR-K790) with 6 speakers located around the room and no desire to replace it. Tried bluetooth receiver to supply sound to the receiver thru RCA left and right inputs, and not enough volume, plus professional advice that bluetooth was not the best sound. The OREI DA41 worked great, I used a new HDMI with good specifications and a new optical cable since the digital coaxial was in use on my receiver for the blueray player. My TV adjusted to the OREI instantly. I am very pleased with the volume and quality of the sound, and not needing to replace my older Sony home DIED AFTER ONE WEEK: The sound started coming and going (mostly gone) after one week of use. There are many reviews which indicate this is a frequent problem. I called the support number on page 3 of the manual, on May 26, and had to leave a message, but was called back shortly. Promised a call back from their tech support withing 48 hours. On 28 May, OREI advised me to return through Amazon. Amazon assisted me with a return for replacement. May 31, 2025: Just installed the replacement DA41 from Amazon, it worked right away.

The TV's the limit
I picked one of these up in attempt to squeeze every last bit of bandwidth out of my television. I had my main TV connected to my HiFi rig via Toslink and occasionally used it to stream music. The Toslink connection capped at 48khz/16-bit. It was my hope that I could use eArc and coax connection to kick out even more bandwidth. However, even with this device and a coax connection, I could not pull anymore bandwidth. I wish this device would have worked as it's actually a nice little unit. It's well built and even includes a power supply. The device also has a mechanical on-off switch. That will switch can prevent problems because many TVs will cut off internal speakers if it sees you're using eArc audio. It's also ridiculously small and easy to hide.

Worried, But Worked Out!
Was worried at first. Hooked everything up and nothing. My Samsung SmartTV recognized my HDMI cable in the sound settings, but nothing downstream of my OREI Audio Extractor. Had a look at the OREI instructions/directions/setting, bingo! Everything came together after getting into the "expert/advanced" settings of the TV. The only thing I need to work out now is how to synch my Samsung SmartTV and Bose Soundbar remotes; don't like having a bunch of remotes to use.

Finally found it, my AV amp is an old Denon unit which sounds great but is from an era before hdmi let alone earc. So this little converter is a god send. So if you want to connect an eARC hdmi outlet from a tv to a digital amp which is pre hdmi to send digital 5.1 sound from the tv to your av receiver, then this is for you.

We got a new Samsung tv on sale recently UA75DU7000K and it didn’t have an optical (TOSLINK) output while our Sonos Ray only has the option of optical connection. This REI product arrived today, I hooked it up and plugged the HDMI cable from eARC to the device. It didn’t seem to work and there was no option in the tv to select pass through or an external audio device for output. I decided to try another hdmi cable I had, labelled hi speed, and the tv recognised a new connected device! This REI converter works amazingly, very very happy!

The unit did not work. It was receiving power and I could see that there was signal going into the toslink cable that I was connecting... I was not able to get any audio out of the unit however. I tried connecting four different devices with an optical out (Xbox 360, Xbox One, Panasonic TV TCP-55ST60, and Windows PC with Asus motherboard P8P67-M Pro), and I have tried using various RCA and 3.5mm cables to connect to my sound system. I also tried using a variety of different headphones, all of which gave me no sound. Amazon sent me a replacement unit, which arrived very quickly. This second unit however did not work either After reaching out to the manufacturer twice they did respond saying that there was an issue they were aware of where this unit would not wok with some Panasonic TV's (this doesn't explain it not working with the other devices however). They offered to send me the DA34 (here is a link to it Orei DA34 Digital to Analog Audio Decoder SPDIF/Coaxial 5.1-Channel Input to RCA L/R/3.5mm Headphone Output ) in place of this unit. I am happy to say that the DA34 does work. My rating of the DA34X will not change as it simply did not work. I will give the DA34 a 5 star review though as it works exactly as advertised, and it also had the option to power the unit via USB, which I quite liked.

This little digital optical to hdmi was just perfect for hooking up a friend’s hearing aid box to his new TV on the eArc hdmi port. I love it when something works. I’ll update if there are issues with quality or lifespan.
