Don't ever pack without them!
Whether you are going on a weekend trip or a month overseas, you will love these packing cubes. The set comes with one large packing cube with dimensions that can accommodate a folded pair of slacks or shirt/blouse. The smaller ones are great for pajamas, underclothes, t-shirts, shoes, or anything else you might put in your suitcase or backpack. So here is what is so great: I can put 15 folded shirts OR 9 pairs of pants in the large cube (note that my clothes aren't a small size). The cubes do accommodate more than you'd think, because I have packed them pretty full. The clothes stay folded and neat. When I pack with the cubes, I can unpack my suitcase in a minute--literally. I just remove the packing cubes! Everything is neatly folded in the cubes. The cubes are so lightweight that they will not affect your luggage weight (important especially if you are travelling overseas for long periods and face stringent luggage weight restrictions). No shifting around of clothes in the suitcase anymore! The top is mesh so you can easily see which packing cube holds your pants or shirts or whatever. Also, the zippered cubes have sides that can be collapses downward when they are opened so that you can retrieve the one shirt you want out of the middle of the stack of 20 t-shirts in the cube easily without disrupting your packing. They are amazing. I couldn't get by without having two of the large cubes, so I ordered another set soon after I travelled with the first set. I've bought the cubes as gifts and found them to be heartily appreciated. I have never written a review for a product before, but I love this product and think everyone should know about it!!

Good product, but I prefer eBags cubes
After 25 years of international business travel, I only recently discovered packing cubes. Honestly, I thought they were a gimmick until I tried them. If you take trips where you're moving to a different city/hotel every couple of days, packing cubes are terrific, as they let you "unpack without unpacking" -- i.e., you can remove the cubes to get at your stuff, but still repack your suitcase in under a minute the next morning just by popping all the cubes back in place. They also keep items (especially business shirts) neater, and they're very handy when a security screener needs to go through your bag. My packing cubes paid for themselves the first time I had to go through a secondary security screening at the airport. In terms of specific brands and models of packing cubes, I prefer the eBags medium-sized cubes over the Rick Steves cubes. Two of the eBags medium cubes fit perfectly side-by-side in a typical 21" carry-on roller-style suitcase (e.g., the eBags TLS mini or the Rick Steves 21" carry-on roller, both of which I use), whereas the Rick Steves smaller cubes leave a lot of extra space on the sides. Also, the eBags cubes are shorter (about 3" vs. 5" for the Rick Steves cubes). Personally, I prefer to use more of the shorter cubes, with different types of items in each cube (e.g., shirts in one cube, underwear in another, etc.), rather than stuffing a lot of different stuff into a larger cube. Having said that, packing style is a matter of personal preference, and others may prefer the deeper and smaller Rick Steves cubes, so the real question is quality and durability. Both the eBags and the Rick Steves cubes are well made, and the zippers on both work well. I think the eBags cubes will be more durable over time, though. The Rick Steves cubes are mesh on all sides. The eBags cubes use a very light, solid fabric (like parachute clothe) on the sides and bottom, with mesh on the top so you can see what's in the cube. I think the parachute clothe (which is reinforced with mesh) will last much better than pure mesh, and it doesn't get snagged on things as easily. The fabric doesn't add any discernible weight relative to all mesh, as far as I can tell. Whichever brand you get, it's worth the investment. Packing cubes really do make travel easier. UPDATE 4 July 2012: When I wrote the above review, I speculated that the eBags cubes would be more durable. Sure enough, the mesh of the Rick Steves packing cube has torn around one of the seams, but the eBags cubes (which I've used more heavily) are still going strong with no signs of wear.

These are great travel organizers!
These are our 2nd set. I purchased these for myself several years ago for a 2 week trip to Italy. I could not believe how helpful they were in keeping my clothes neatly organized and easy to find. We've taken several other long trips to Europe and in the US, and these have become indispensable to me. My wife finally "borrowed" a couple of them from me on our last short trip, and realized how great they are. So - I bought her this set for Christmas this year (so I can have mine back!). They really are terrific in helping you stay organized. I will usually use a small one to keep my socks & handkerchiefs, another for underwear and maybe a belt or two (rolled up of course), and the large one for shirts or other larger items, depending on the nature of the travel. When we arrive at our destination, I simply pull out a cube and remove what I need, zip it back up and put it back. Everything stays in place and easy to find the next time. Once I've emptied a cube, it is then used to store my dirty laundry (smaller items), again, reducing the clutter in my suitcase. Obviously, I highly recommend these for any traveler. (NOTE: There are a few other brands that look equally good, so I wouldn't necessarily say the Rick Steves version are the best, though mine have held up well despite some rigorous use over the past 6 years).

A real asset to your RS bag!
I recently used these to pack for my honeymoon to use with my RS suitcase/bag, I enjoyed the structure they provided to the softsided luggage! I was really able to pack a lot and have it compressed into convenient cubes for travel; at the airport it was easy to open my bag and have them check my stuff, tidy and swift through security. I would recommend two sets per RS bag if you want everything in these travel cubes. One set let you lay down a full base layer and then I was able to add larger folded items on top so it was still great, but I would have liked having 2 sets. Each cube has two zipper pulls so you can get at the contents easily. The material is vented with a bit of stretch, so it is nice to overpack a little and then zip it all down -- like a packing girddle :) Highly recommend!

Works fine if you don't plan on washing it.
I bought a set of the Rick Steves and a set of the Ebags cubes last year for our family trip. Loved the concept of packing cubes. After the trip, I put both in the washer after we came back from our trip. When I went to use them for another trip, I was shocked to find all the frames in RS cubes were twisted and bent. It looks like the dryer shrunk the cubes and so now the zipper doesn't work either. Upon tugging on the zipper, the tabs of the zipper fell off one of them. Good thing the Ebag Cubes held up just fine through the wash because I didn't have time to order another set.

Excellent Organization - Great for Camping
I bought these packing cubes to provide organized storage of camping items. I used the largest cube for a 4 place setting of Corelle dinner plates, bowls, and mugs. I also was able to place a 6 piece place setting of silverware, stack of napkins, and salt/pepper all in this one cube. The medium cube I used for 4 large coffee mugs with lids and 4 soda can cover tops. The small bag I was able to able to place smaller items like a Swiss Army Knife, clothesline, matches, batteries, and about 8 other smaller items. The zippers are easy to open and are open on all three sides making it easy to get things out and to see what is in them. The bottom of the cubes are a solid, thin, plastic material that appears quite durable, but the sides and top are all mesh. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing something extremly lightweight to organize items in a small space. Will probably another set. I can see many uses for these packing cubes.

Not What I wanted
I'll start by saying they're very well made. But there was no size description so I assumed they were smaller than they are. When they arrived I opened them up to see they were at least twice the size I thought they would be, so I returned them. Too big for what I needed. But if the size works for you I think you'd like them, again they're well made.

Amazing product for the unorganized
I used these in my back pack for my trip through Europe. I am a very unorganized person and without these packing cubes I would have had a mess of wrinkly clothes to deal with throughout the trip. They are flexible yet sturdy and they fit neatly into my side zippered backpack. I used the larger one for my pants, shorts, skirts etc. and in the smaller two I rolled my shirts, tank tops and summer dresses. Its so convenient to just grab what you are looking for without the hassle of sorting through everything else. The zippers were also of good quality and didnt snag. When I first purchased them online I thought they would be bigger than when I received them. But after using them, I found them to be the perfect size. They can hold a lot for their size. Highly recommended and I plan on purchasing more for longer trips with larger suitcases.
