3 years and counting; best mic ever!
It's been through everything you could imagine...four moves, sat on, bent, you name it. Magnet was easy to apply and stayed put. Noise cancellation is great on it, which was very much needed considering my obnoxious mechanical keyboard and two dogs. Sound quality has not faltered once, and I love the physical mute button especially while gaming and streaming movies with friends. Love this thing!

You won't be disappointed
I had done some prior research into this item before buying it. My wife needed it for online teaching and we have had it for about half a year now. My wife has really loved it. I have also used it for online work myself and it has been a solid buy. The ability to attach it to the headphones through the magnets is also a very helpful feature. The magnets hold it very steady against the headphones. If you are looking for a good microphone to use for calls, recording sessions or online work, this is a good product. Good mics are very expensive so it does seem expensive but good things come at a price and compared to other alternatives it's actually a good value for money if you really think about it. I would definitely recommend it. Hopefully it holds up well over the years.

Sound great, but has design flaws
I have bought 2 of these mics over the past couple years. They sound fine, as good or better than just about every headphone mic you come across...no problems there. Plug in and works. However. Both mics stopped working withing the 1st year. The wiring going into the mic boom near where it attaches to the headset failed on both of these, where it transfers from a soft cord into a hard flexible piece. The wiring broke...I did some surgery and removed the soft sheath and was able to locate the break in the small wires and resolder..And it works fine one again. Not super optimal, but id rather not spend another 80 bucks just to have the same thing happen again.

Natural Sounding! *Edit - Failed after 7 months and the warranty process scrutinizes you
Edit after 7 months* Wire cracked @ the upper strain relief after 7 months of normal use. The warranty process is a bit much, they want you to answer a series of questions and take a recording of the output and send it for their review. Once "approved" they require you to send the mic to their "Autopsy" address at your own costs in which they will determine if they will warranty the item via repair or replace. I didn't do anything wrong, but they really seem to go out of your way to make you feel like you did. "Autopsy" - where we will inspect your mic VERY closely to make sure you're not abusing your product. Quite frankly, I've become very tired of the mod itself, it's always in the way and there's no good way to flip it out of the way like a gaming headset mic. My lesson has been learned "ModMic" is not the way to go. Get yourself a desk mic if you're trying to use a studio quality headset over a gaming headset if you want something that will last. Dear Antlion, I get that you don't want unnecessary warranty costs, and that there are people out there that damage products but you need to consider how you potentially make a good customer feel over trying to weed out the bad. Initial Review* Voice sounds identical to as if you were the room. Very natural! The light up mute button is too close to the mic. It needs to be further down the cord so you can actually find it, use it and literally see it. Kind of pointless having a light up indicator if it's not in your range of view. Great mic, but really silly overlook. I don't understand how this positioning could be approved during testing....oh well. It's a great item either way. Also make sure you test the position of the stick on magnet as you only get 90 degree rotation for flipping up and down the mic. If you mount it 45 degrees off you're out of luck and flipping the mic will be an annoyance and pop out. This is preventable with proper installation.

Great-sounding mic
Purchased this (ModMic USB) about 6 months ago to add onto a pair of HD6XX's and it works great. I've been using it daily for work/gaming and it sounds much better than any integrated mic I've used before from gaming headsets. The magnet attachments stick well, I haven't had trouble with them and pulling on them has no give. I often switch the mic to an upright position when I'm not using it, and that works fine as well. $80 is at the higher ends for what I was willing to pay for a USB mic, but it's worth is given the build and sound quality. Would recommend.

Great for a While, But only lasted 3 months
I bought the ModMic USB in March, and attached it to my HTC Vive to use In Virtual Reality instead of teh dot hole mic that is built into the Vive. the sound quality is really good, was easy to set onto the vive headset, and it worked for a good while. The sound quality is up probably around the top for a microphone this size, and it is phenominal to use while in VR. Although now in June the microphone has died, seemingly at the joint/junction between the wire to the USB and the adjustable arm for the microphone. I will put it to the fact that i Heavily use my VR headset, so this may be a problem of abuse/overuse, But it was a good quality mic while it lasted.

FINALLY! True directional, noise cancelling microphone.
I sit directly next to my partner. We can now have simultaneous meetings (with headphones) because of this mic. Couldn't do that with the yeti, couldn't do that with a broken shure, couldn't do it with literally a handful of cheaper mics all claiming to be "cardioid", noise cancelling or some combination thereof. I'm so happy. I've been trying mics for years to game with them watching TV in the background, having meetings, or playing music. I was giving up hope I could do it at all, but now, I can have a wreckless level of directional noise in the background without worry. With this mic, we can have music full blast in the background, but talk normally into the mic. If she puts it to her forehead, I can't hear her talk on cardioid mode. I continuously spoke while creeping up behind her, and she could only hear me once I was next to her ear. There will be an occasional "blip" of background noise from me speaking, but that's it, and it's quiet at that.

Better is available for cheaper.
I purchased the modmic USB in 2020. I used it exclusively to chat in games. I owned this microphone for three months. Here are my observations: 1: The design lacks sufficient thought. The inline mute button is located too close to the mic body, placing it at an awkward spot, uncomfortable to use and very difficult to see the red LED indicator. Also, I placed the magnetic base for it pretty far forward on the earcup of my headphone, but the flex body still isn’t quite long enough for where I wanted the mic placed either. 2: This mic still requires its own cable (obviously), meaning you are teathered with two cables, one from your headphones and the other from the mic. Included are some cable clips to attach the mic cable to your headphone cable, so they don’t turn into a spaghetti mess. When the cable clips are used to hold the mic line next to my headphone cable (Audiotechnica ATH-M40X) the cabling was much heavier and often got caught on one of the clips as I moved around (just at my desk, obviously not up walking about). This REALLY was a much bigger downside than I would have thought - it took my modest, but decent headphones and made them super bulky and not easy to wear like an integrated headset would be - it was the worst of both worlds, instead of the best of both worlds. 3: The sound quality left a lot to be desired. In game, teammates often told me my audio was too quiet. I tried omnidirectional vs cardiod. I turned up the “Microphone volume” in windows settings all the way, but the mic has no gain control, and sounds like you’re talking quietly into a tin can. I finally downloaded equalizer APO, which let me add some gain, and that helped the volume, but the sound quality was still severely lacking, as the extra gain also magnified its flaws. Even in cardiod pickup mode, teammates started to complain about my keystrokes and mouse clicks in chat. 4: Finally there is the lackluster overall build quality. After just a couple of months of relatively ginger treatment, while tweaking (lightly, I wasn’t exactly gorrilla-gripping the darned thing) the positioning in an attempt to improve sound, it simply stopped working. Now I have an awkward $80 paperweight. All in all, for the steep price, I was really unimpressed. The sound is not any better than the mic on any cheap gaming headset. When paired on a headphone it is clunkier, bulkier, and less easy to wear than an integrated headset mic, and it isn’t really any easier to use either. I feel like there are better options for the same price if you want to game with your favorite headphones, and also chat with teammates. As a replacement, I have since purchased a Fifine T669. It was cheaper, comes with stand, boom arm, shock mount, and pop filter. I bought it because all the reviews I’d seen said it should be MUCH better sounding. Being $30 LESS expensive than the modmic USB, I didn’t have super high expectations, but it could scarcely have been be worse! The T669 has served me well since January of this year. It sees almost daily use. There is a gain control right on the mic body, and it sits on its swing arm mounted to my desk, swung out of the way when not in use. The sound quality is quite superior, and my headphones are much easier to wear without the bulky cord and clip assembly. There are some obviously cheap Chinese made components like the stand that serve their purpose, but won’t be winning any awards any time soon, but the mic itself is lightyears better in sound, convenience, control, and overall useability.

Broke within 7 months of regular use.
After 7 months of regular use the microphone broke completely. It seems you only get 1 month warranty. Absolute waste of money, would recommend investing your money in something more durable.

Fantastic all round microphone for those that want to use non-gaming headsets
Have been using gaming headset for years for both PC gaming and general skype/zoom/ calls. Decided to jump into the relm of more audiophile level headphones for gaming however it is near impossible to find a good gaming headset that has both amazing sound quality with a decent microphone (although I must admit the Seinheiser PC37x came close). After purchsing a good pair of open back magnetic planar headphones my next step was to purchase a microphone. Wanted something with good audio quality but wasn't interested in getting a desk or broadcasting style microphone. The mod mic provides amazing audio quality, is reasonably good at eliminating background noise and was very easy to set up.
