Keenan teamed with Tool guitar tech and A Perfect Circle guitarist/composer Billy Howerdel for MER DE NOMS, which is both a band effort and an engaging hard rock album, recorded while Tool renegotiated with their label and other band members took a break. But don't be fooled; A Perfect Circle is more than a one-off side project. The band isn't nearly as brutal as Tool; the musical textures are instead spacious and melodic. Keenan maintains his brooding, emotionally charged vocal style and his knack for conjuring bleak imagery. Review: Excellent, that's all that can be said! - Loved the album, and anyone that is looking at this probably knowes this already so i am going to review the audio quality of the pressing not the music on the album. To that point the pressing quality is very good, my Technics turntable and DL-110 track very well on it and the detail is amazing!!! I have this album in los-less FLAC as well, and I have listened to each format back to back. I have to say the vinyl beats out the CD quality hands down. Granted I am not using a Crosley Cruiser, but still you will hear things on this album on vinyl that are just missing on CD!... don't even get me started on MP3's lets just leave those to the tween with and ipod and ear buds at the mall :). This type of music is meant to be enveloped in not just listened to. Just be careful with how you store it, modern 180 gram vinyl is REALLY easy to warp. I had this album stored in its sleeve but not closely packed with other albums (like it should) and both of the records now have an ever so slight warp to them that wasn't there when i first opened the package. I had this happen to 3 other new 180 gram new albums. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Don't follow the advice of the low rated reviews! *by A***E on August 21, 2013* I know this is an old album but every time I listen to it, I think I need to go on here and review it because I've read some negativity about it. Ignore it. This album may at first seem boring with a couple listens but if you keep playing it you will find yourself not wanting to skip any of the songs and many of them start becoming very touching. In fact, I start to get lost in them. Especially those as beautiful as Orestes and 3 Libras. At first listen, yes, I will say Judith's lyrics made my stomach tighten a little. Only because I believe in the God he is referring to here. However, I must also take into consideration the fact that he was probably talking about his mother. A super religious woman who "served" God and became paralyzed, only to go on and praise God for her awful condition until death. From his standpoint, I can understand his lyrics "He did it all for you" meaning this is how He rewarded you for your efforts. I'm sure there's a ton of pain and disbelief behind someone who could serve a God like that. It's like that awful book in the Bible that I cannot bring myself to read. Job.... yikes. So in that way, I empathize with Maynard. I know in my hurt and anger I'd scream the same things. With all that to say, the song is absolutely mind blowing itself! It is an instant favorite with the first listen, regardless of the lyrics. If you're not sure about this album at first, give it as many listens as it takes for you to fall in love with it. It is truly a gem.
