Well worth the price
This is a nice pen. I'm loving it so far. I've been using at work, and it writes as nicely as any of my expensive fountain pens. I like the weight, balance, length, and the knurled texture on the barrel. The nib also spreads slightly with pressure, like a flex nib pen. I'm gonna get another one in silver.

Amazing Fountain Pen
What an amazing pen! This is only my second fountain pen, I am not an expert on them by any means. One day when I threw away several standard pens that were done, I realized that I throw a ton of these plastic things away. They are probably going to sit in a landfill forever or end up in the ocean and choke a dolphin to death or something. So, I started looking at refillable pens because I couldn't find a better way to recycle or reuse standard pens. I tried a few standard refillable pens, and they were OK, but I wasn't getting the same line results as I was with my higher-end Pilot pens. I bought the Black Forest because the price was excellent and the reviews were incredibly good. The quality and build are fantastic, the weight is really nice and the lines it produces are crisp and concise. The nurling is very comfortable and much softer than it appears. I bought the Asvine Hongdian Fountain Pen Bottled Ink Black (Non-carbon) to use with it, because I am just getting into the world of fountain pens and that ink was inexpensive (I will write a separate review on that, but so far, I love that ink as well). So far, the pen has never dripped or exploded a bunch of ink all over my page. I am honestly shocked with how much I enjoy drawing and writing with this pen. Because it is so much cheaper than other nice fountain pens, I thought it was going to be garbage. Not knowing much about fountain pens, I thought it would be a good first run (my first fountain pen was very inexpensive and disposable. I bought it just to make sure I could actually draw with a fountain pen before I dropped money on a "real" one). Man, I love this thing. Very easy to refill as well! Time will tell how it holds up, but after using this heavily for a few weeks, I have zero complaints or issues with it. I am sure there are many, many nicer fountain pens out there, but I can't imagine you can beat this one for the price (I paid under $20 USD for it in 2026).

Overall Nice Quality
This pen is overall nice quality for price. ASSEMBLY & WRITING Easy to use and assemble. Seeing some other reviews, I rinsed the nib first before using. Easy to clean. Let it dry for about 2 days (pen is refillable, comes with a refillable converter). Then tried it out. As soon as I started writing it worked nicely! Write speed is efficient. I’m left handed and this pen works well for me. COMPARISON Comparing this pen to my platinum preppy, It’s feels heavier. The Platinum, it’s light as a feather. But the Asvine, you know you’re handling it. Also, I got the “fine” nib but writing looks more “medium” to me. My Preppy fin nib produces smaller writing. I will say that this Asvine pen seems to write better from the start. My Preppy pens are touch and go even with cleaning. And can be a little finicky. STORAGE & FUNCTION The Asvine pen also comes with a nice ten box for storage if you’re not using it often. However, if you plan on everyday use, be aware this may not be the most comfortable pen. I’m still testing it out. It feels fine but I personally like a thicker round grip like the Preppy pen. Also the Asvine clip is a bit stiff and mostly is for aesthetics not really functional. But the pen does glide well in most my folio & notebook pen loops.

Had To Buy The Rainbow Pen...Again!
Update 9/27/22: I bought the rainbow iridescent pen in a medium nib which is my nib of choice. After rinsing the nib, I inked it with Private Reserve Plum and it writes like a dream. No fits or starts. These pens are amazing and the enclosed tin case makes a great EDC pen case as well. Honestly I may have to have this pen in every color. If you're beginning your fountain pen journey, you can't go wrong with this. It looks luxe without the luxe price tag. It's a great every day carry pen. Nice weight, not too heavy. Just a reminder, this pen does not come with ink. Be sure to either have ink cartridges or bottled ink on hand. I personally suggest bottled ink for the vast color choices. And filling a converter is really easy. There are plenty of YouTube videos on hand to help. Update 2/27/22: I had to buy the rainbow iridescent pen and like my first purchase, I rinsed the nib first then inked it up with Pelikan Turquoise and it's writing perfectly. It's a beautiful pen to add to my collection. Maybe it's me, but this particular model doesn't feel as heavy as the dark blue one. Again, these pens come with a converter so have bottled ink on hand. Something else I've noticed is these pens seem to do well with lighter inks like Ferris Wheel Press and Monteverde. Update 1/18/22: hadn't used the pen for nearly two weeks, yet picked it up and started writing without having to get the ink to flow. That's really impressive and a plus for any fountain pen. Update 12/23/21: I've been using this pen for the past few days and the more I use it, the more I'm impressed with how well it writes and how rich it looks. I purchased another for my fiance. I really love the dark blue matte color and that satisfying "click" when capped. I have a rather sizeable fountain pen collection from the Vanishing Point to my EDC Platinum Preppy, and this pen has definitely become a new favorite. I cannot believe how well it writes pretty much out of the storage tin. It feels very nice in my hand, and the fine nib feels/writes like a medium point to me. After rinsing the nib I inked it with Monteverde Wisdom Purple and the pen skates nicely over my Tomoe River paper. I am definitely buying a few of these for my fountain pen loving friends. The presentation tin makes for a great way to store and carry this pen. Oh and the dark blue matte would look perfect in a professional setting. I'm really pleased with this pen. FYI: this pen DOES NOT come with ink, and for a very good reason. Cartridges can and do explode with changes in pressure or temperature. The last thing anyone wants is fountain pen ink all over the place. There are inexpensive but quality fountain pen inks available and plenty of hacks on YouTube about filling a converter.

Sweet pen!
For the money, this pen is an excellent value. It has a bit of weight, but it's not too bad. It weighs 29 grams on my scale. Not nearly as heavy as a Jinhao x450 or 159. The Hongdian does have a narrow section, of which I was well aware from having watched YouTube videos about the pen. I usually prefer thicker sections, but honestly the thin section doesn't bother me. In fact, after receiving this Hongdian I purchased a Lamy CP1, which also has a thin section (great pen, too!). The only issue I had with this Hongdian is the nib. It arrived to me almost unusable. Extremely scratchy. I'm a fountain pen geek and have lots of supplies on hand to handle most problems that arise with my pens. So I used some micro mesh on the nib, and voila! I turned a very scratchy nib into a smooth, buttery nib in about 30 seconds. No big deal. I expected the nib to be a nail but was pleasantly surprised that it has a bit of line variation if I exert a small amount of pressure on the nib. Very nice! This is an attractive, sleek, stealthy-looking pen. All black, even the nib. I also like the clear plastic finial displaying the Hongdian logo. Classy. The pocket clip is quite stiff, but I think it will loosen over time. The cap posts securely on the barrel for those who like to post their pens when writing. It's very do-able and doesn't back weight the pen too much. The supplied converter does its job. Heck, I'm just happy that a converter was included with the pen! Chinese pens are cool like that. The barrel has a gnurled texture, but the section is smooth but not slippery. There isn't anything for me to dislike about this pen. I've been using it daily for a couple of months now. No complaints. It has become one of my go-to pens for daily journaling. I seem to like filling it with brown ink, usually Waterman Absolute Brown. Most people probably will want to fill it with black ink because it's a black pen. You do you. It's your pen! I highly recommend this pen!

Beautiful Pen. Writes Very Well.
Hong Dian Black Forest Series Fountain Pen I recently bought this fine nib pen along with a 3-pack (10 cartridges per pack) of black ink cartridges. The pen arrived very quickly and was well packed. It came in a silver-colored metal box which included the pen and a nicely made cartridge converter. I was very impressed with the looked of the pen. It is a completely black anodized pen, including the nib. It has a checkered barrel which feels very nice in the hand when the pen is used. I have been using the pen as a daily carry since it arrived. I am using the HongDian black ink cartridge. I really like this pen. It is definitely heavier than a lot of pens I normally use but not excessively heavy. It is also a slim pen, which I like. I am not fond of big, fat fountain pens that feel like one is writing with a nibbed cigar. I really like this pen. It writes very smoothly. It is a wet writer but that could also be a quality of the ink, too. I have not tried the ink in any other pen because the cartridge is specific to HongDian pens. The pen comes with a cartridge converter that will let you put in any fountain pen ink of your choice. The converter is well made and not flimsy at all. It turns very smoothly. It uses a small, tightly wound spring to help regulate the ink flow, unlike some pens which use one or more ball bearings for ink flow regulation. The cartridge converter just pushes in and fits snugly. There is no worry that the converter will fall out unexpectedly. As noted above, this pen is a metal pen and a bit heavier than plastic or acrylic pens with the same dimensions. I did not find that the weight of the pen was a problem during long writing sessions. It is well balanced, posted or unposted. The pen is long enough to write with it unposted without issue. Although I normally do not post the pen cap on the back of the pen, I did try it with this pen, and it felt well-balanced, if a bit heavy compared to what I am used to. Unposted, the pen is extremely comfortable to use for long writing sessions. So far, I have had no problem writing with this pen. It writes every time I pick up the pen to write with it. There is no problem with any skipping, slow starts or ink creep anywhere around the nib. The cap snaps on tightly and I don’t have to worry that it will fall off in my pocket or purse. My only negative comment about the pen is that, for a fine point nib, it writes a bit thicker than I expected. It feels more like a medium than it does a fine nib. Next time, I will order the pen equipped with an extra-fine nib. Overall, I like the pen and would get another one, and also recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice-looking all black pen that is reliable and won’t break the bank, especially if someone takes it or it gets lost. It is a good first pen for people who want to start using a fountain pen

Sleek, Good Looking, Good Writer for a Reasonable Price
I have been using and collecting fountain pens for about a year now. My husband became intrigued and wanted one of his own to try. Having several Asvine fountain pens in my personal collection and being very pleased with their quality and writing style, I decided to gift him with this Asvine Black Forest <F> nib with cartridge. You can use a converter instead of a cartridge if you want to use bottled ink, but he was interested in simplicity and ease of use, so he uses cartridges. This pen is a lovely matte black that writes a fine line - which is perfect for him. It is comfortable to use, reliable, well made, reasonably priced and a good writer. We both recommend this pen.

Looks Good, Feels Good but Useless to Write With
I have used this fountain pen for just a day. I needed a second pen and decided to go with this one, given the 2,000+ reviews averaging almost 5.0/5.0. I've been using a Pilot Metropolitan Medium Nib pen for 5+ years and have been very (extremely!) happy with that pen. However, I decided to be cheap, save $10, and hence buy this pen vs. the Pilot. If it were worth it I'd return this pen. It's possible that the one individual unit I received is faulty, but this pen misses every third down stroke. That's my biggest complaint. PROS: (1) Looks good and feels good; (2) Seems to be made out of metal; (3) Has a nice, solid feel in the hand; (4) Has a very nicely done textured surface; (5) The cap latches on rather well, you need really to pull on it to open it; (6) The ink cartridges are easy to install and use, and have a decent amount of ink in them. CONS: ~1~ The nib is not that good; ~2~ One out of three down strokes are missed; ~3~ The ink flow cannot keep up with my speed of writing (I've never had this (or any other) problem with my Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen --- no, I'm not getting paid by Pilot to sing their praises - I truly think it is a wonder fountain pen). ~4~ This pen is advertised as "fine nib." Well, the lines it draws are at least as thick as the lines I get from my MEDIUM-nibbed Pilot Metropolitan. I would not describe this pen as "fine nib." SO--SO: <<1>> Since my hands are probably on the larger side, this fountain pen could be a tad bigger (in the sense of large diameter). <<2>> The tin case this pen arrived in is all right but just that. (As a disclaimer, I personally never cared about the boxes pens came in - after all I'm buying a $20 fountain pen because it's easier to write with one of these than with a regular ball point pen. So, I don't care about the stinking box. However, I realise some people might care, that's why I'm mentioning it.) <<3>> The ink colour, in my opinion, could be richer, more intense, if you will. <<4>> (I am posting this point a second time, because to me the too thick "fine" lines are not a deal breaker. This pen is advertised as "fine nib." Well, the lines it draws are at least as thick as the lines I get from my MEDIUM-nibbed Pilot Metropolitan. I would not describe this pen as "fine nib." CONCLUSION: The bottom line for me is this: (1) if the nib issue that I mention up in CONS were fixed, I'd probably use the pen gladly. As I said, it is a very well made pen. (2) Yet, If I could (meaning if I deemed it worthwhile) return the pen I received, I would.

Simplesmente maravilhosa!
A entrega do CORREIOS é sofrível!

Great value for money
I had some doubts about this pen since it’s a Chinese brand and there are too many that I don’t know and never heard of, but the product is amazing. The body weights in a way that feels like a high quality pen and the way it flows in the paper is amazing. Highly recommended.
