Very nice introduction to the world of business
Recommended for people who want to find out how businesses work: You'll find out about how to start preparing for owning a business, how to come up with an idea, types of business models, financials, accounting, managing and marketing. The book with its 500+ pages is not at all too long, because of its scope. It's just full of information from page 1 to the end. Why only 4 stars: 1. It seems pretty focused on specific business models (franchising for instance is described in way more details than I expected) 2. Does not say anything about the sales process - pretty important omission. 3. Seems slightly biased toward businesses that sell physical products 4. Because of its scope, concepts are presented (quite well), but then there are not enough examples of different kinds of businesses/situations/techniques. This is to be expected though, as 500+pages is not enough for all that information. Very good introductory book. Very useful for making one realize how many things there are to know in the world of business.

Good start.
I was looking for a book that would give me an overview of knowledge I needed for a new startup I'm pursuing. This one gave me the confidence I needed to proceed. It is not the last book you'll need but is a great first book. Once you've read this book, move on to some detailed books in market research, marketing, read on the use the Wave software for your bookkeeping, etc. I'd also watch some of the videos on YouTube like Sam Altmans Lecture 1. I'm glad I started with this book though. Not complete but a good start. Download the sample and look at the table of contents to see if the book offers areas you're interested in learning and go from there.

Well it was a bit shallow.
I guess there is some basic information here, however I would not want to use it as a primary source if I were to actually start a business. There are more comprehensive and better researched titles out there minus the cartoons. Take the time to read some books with a better grasp on business law or you will likely regret many decisions down the road.

great purchase
Just received it so haven't had chance to read through it in detail, but so far seems great & packed with useful information. Bargain for the price

Just beginning my own startup and this book is great! Really clearly and succinctly explains necessary info. I was really worried about understanding all the financial stuff in particular...but the explanations were cracking! Gave really clear detail with good examples, then the extra tips at the end of each section is really helpful as it bypasses the 'theory' and explains real life pitfalls and potential opportunities. Generally this book is a great starting point as a bible for everything you pretty much need to know! Plenty of space to write your own notes all over as well.

Good. A bit "American" in terms of the advice for example on the right legal structure (the advice is on setting up an S Corp or an LLC, and dealing with the IRS but it has some great tips and is definitely useful and worth the price
