Great product - FULL informative review!
I am a hairy guy and the the product is a very welcome tool to make myself more presentable. I have a couple of things to add though. First, I hesitate to call the Mangroomer a "shaver." It does not "shave" nor does it leave your skin smooth without trace of hair. It is more like a clipper, although it does clip the hair very close to the skin. The end result would be something like what you would see if you shaved the area and looked at it the next day or so. Basically stubble. Next, the clipper can be abrasive. You have to be careful not to press too hard or else your skin will get hurt. Just provide enough pressure so that the clipper makes contact with your skin. No more, or you may end up as disgruntled as some reviewers here seem to be. This pain is easy to avoid, so don't condemn the Mangroomer just because you aren't using it the right way. Lastly, some people complain that the clipper won't cut hair, and say that it pulls instead. This is the result of trying to clip an area too quickly. If you go slow and steady, then the clipper will work better. The best way to use the clipper is to move it in the opposite direction of the hair growth while simultaneously moving it back and forth about an inch, if that makes sense. Instead of just getting an area in one wide sweep, go slow and move the clipper back and forth in an effort to get all the hair. I will admit that if you are clipping long hair, the trimmer may pull slightly. But you shouldn't have long hair once you start clipping it regularly! I have tried shaving my back with the Razorba. While it worked great the first time, I ended up getting a bunch of ingrown hairs and razor bumps on my neck, shoulders and back. When I tried to shave my back again a few days later, the razor cut into all the bumps caused by the first session and it was a horrible experience. What I do now is attach my cheap Remington foil shaver (about $30 on Amazon and works beautifully. I use it for my face regularly) to the Razorba head (instead of a razor blade) with two zip ties and shave my back with it. This is a great way to get a smooth feel to the area you want to rid hair from if using an actual razor blade won't work for you. The Mangroomer removes the hair enough so the foil shaver is functional (foil shavers only shave stubble - don't try them on longer growth. They pull!) and the foil shaver makes everything smooth. One last tip is to use lithium batteries. My Mangroomer eats normal batteries from breakfast. Oh, and waxing hurts like hell, and is very expensive. This is what works best for me. Hopefully it helps someone else out. From one hairy guy to another.

Thoughtless design, from start to finish
If you buy the ManGroomer, brace yourself. Doing the job will take a LONG time, and it's gonna hurt. If you look at the pictures, notice that the clipper head is nearly perpendicular to the shaft of the device. Holding it as intended (or any other way you can think of) corrects this, so that the blades are exactly perpendicular to your skin. So the cutters don't cut the hair, they cut your skin, and PULL the hairs. I tried this for a painful half-hour or so before my man pride would finally (and every bit as hairy I was at the start) allow me to admit that I had missed this fatal flaw before buying the device. Reviewers who reported the ManGroomer effective either failed to mention they had help, or were lying about using it alone. The only way to get the cutter to do anything to the hair but annoy it is to stand two feet behind yourself, ignore the extensible handle, and hold the main body at a shallow angle to the skin so that the head is almost parallel to the surface, as you would a clipper used on a beard, sideburns, or a dog. Just for fun, I tried this on part of my chest, and it worked great. Just in case you're wondering, the angled handle will not let you circumvent this problem. The number of angles is limited, the one you need is not one of the possibilities, and the arms don't lock in place anyway, so even if you come close, it just falls down. Oh and, by the way, they don't tell you (some reviewers did), but this is not an "electric" device. It takes AA batteries, so if for some bizarre reason you wanted one, this would be the better buy over the costlier rechargeable version.

disapointed to very satisfied
I like to check amazons reviews when I buy anything. was very pleased to see alot of 5 star reviews, so I bought one. well! I was prepared for the quality to feel cheap, but so is the performance. I am not super hairy but it took alot, and I mean alot of shaving to get the job done, and I was red and sore for days. I waited two weeks before getting brave enough to give it a go agin with the same results, and it seemed to pull hair more. the next week I used it and the performance was even worst, then the fourth time it broke and dosent work anymore. I would try another to see if I just got a bum unit but not at [...]bucks. UPDATE: I feel it only fair to eddit this with the following. Mike, We sincerely apologize for the problems you are having with your shaver. We would like to provide you with a replacement at once as you should never have had any problems with your shaver and it is our responsibility to be sure you are always 100% satisfied. Therefore, we will ship you a new MANGROOMER free of all charges immediately. Please email us your original Order # and mailing address at once. Do not worry about sending back the defective unit, due that we do not want you to incur any further costs. Please feel free to contact us at anytime with anything additional. Your satisfaction with our product is our top priority. Thank you and kindest regards, The MANGROOMER Team UPDATE So mangroomer replaced my first shaver, the second one has worked good for many years but I did have one problem. I would forget to get batteries, they would last awhile but it works better with fresher batteries. So I decided to get the new rechargeable shaver. So far this is the one, Great improvements, check it out even if you don't think you would use it that often I would recommend MANGROOMER Ultimate Pro Back Shaver with 2 Shock Absorber Flex Heads, Power Hinge, Extreme Reach Handle and Power Burst

Does the job it's supposed to
For years I have been searching for an item that would get rid of unwanted body hair on my body, especially my back. Face it, the hairy gorilla look went away with the 70's Disco era. Anyway I've tried everything from electric shavers, trimmers to waxing. The problem with shavers is they are not geared for you to shave your own back. They are made for your face only. Trimmers can get hair but then again they are an awkward shape for your back and you would basically have to be a contortionist to get a good trim and you would miss a lot of areas. Waxing- forget it! to painful. You would get the same results and pain if you just pulled the hair out with your hand. Basically the only way to get smooth skin would be to trim the hair and then have someone shave the area with shaving cream and a razor. However that can be difficult. Most people you would ask to do this job will not volunteer to do it so this device provides an alternative. This unit will not give you the closeness of a razor blade! I can't belive some of the bad reviews on here. Are people that naieve? It's a trimmer for god sakes. What it will do is trim the hair to a barely noticeable soft stubble, and no more. It took me about 4 minutes to do my whole back, and I have a forest back there believe me, so that's why I don't understand why some people said it did'nt do a good job. It does take some practice to find out which direction your hair grows. On your back or front torso hair can grow in different directions depending on the area. The best result is when you shave against the "grain". Just like shaving your face with a razor if you have a thick beard sometimes you have to shave against the grain or it will not come off. It's the same with the Mangroomer. I tried trimming with the direction of hair growth and the hair stayed. Swithced directions and it all came off. The long adjustable handle makes it easy to reach all areas of your back. Uses 2 AA batteries which can become expensive if you trim a lot. I use rechargeables. The trimming blade is fairly big so you can cover a lot of ground with one pass. Some other people complained that the blade scratched them. That means you are not holding it right if you get nicked. Keep the trimming blade flat against the skin at all times, not at an angle. All in all this is an innovative device. I think the price a little high for the plastic construction of it. If you drop this on a hard floor it will probably break so be careful. But for right now very happy with it. Give it a try.

Get that monkey off your back!
It's hair. All hair needs to be cut/trimmed. Do it. Amazon packaging fine. Product packaging: dangerous, withstanding an atomic blast fortress shield of plastic. Hate... HATE this kind of packaging where the only options are ruining a pair of scissors and slicing your hand on the cut plastic, or stabbing your hand, leg, arm while using a pocket knife and slicing your hand on the cut plastic. HATE IT. Product. Lightweight. The arm on mine is a lose...wobbly lose. The silver button makes the arm longer....if you push hard enough. Not really necessary. Blade: Awwwwwesommmme! Seriously. Not that impressed with product at first... but fired it up, easily trimmed my back............then my butt (why not?).......and chest. Recklessly went over my nipples, didn't even hurt or cut. The blade does an amazing trim. It's like a back scratcher. Dig it. Easy to use. Yes, contrary to other reviews, rechargeable batters do work. (although, I knocked it a little bit, and they stopped working, the cover wouldn't stay on...took more effort than it should, but yes, rechargeable batters and once cover is on, works fine) Product feels a little cheap, but the blade makes up for it. Cuts really close, but not (nor did I expect it to) cut as close as a razor blade. I'm now prepped for waxing. Yes, Man UP. It's not that bad. I've been when they just went for it... without trimming... and yes... wow... hurts...but there are worse things. The disgust I have for back hair outweighs a little temporary suffering. Almost worth 4 stars because of the ease of use, quality of blade....it just feels so cheap.......so glad it works!

A MUST OWN for every MAN!!
I bought this gadget after reading about it in a magazine. It got lots of praise and I decided to give it a try after reading the good reviews on Amazon. I was never super hairy or anything but I like to take care of my body and look and feel good. It was always a pain trying to get rid of back hair. I have tried creams and waxes and shaving and all were either painful or messy and sometimes I would have rashes for a week from the strong products. I was pretty excited to receive the Mangroomer but somewhat skeptical since most of the gadgets don't work. The packaging was simple and it was easy to open with a box cutter. The box included the Mangroomer, charger, registration docs, warranty information, instructions, and a cap for the blade. Its pretty easy to get going with this all you need is to charge it, there are no blades to attached. Once charged the toughest thing was getting used to the handle. Since I have never used one of these it took me a few minutes to get adjusted to the shape and size. I RECOMMEND you try it out before turning it on just so you get used to it. Once you get used to the Mangroomer its awesome. First the blade is engineered in a way that wont cut you even if you don't use the right angle on your back. I have never cut myself and I have been using it over 5 years. The instructions say to shave against the grain but I shave both ways and it works. I also use it to shave my armpits and personal areas and it does a great job. Shaving cream is not recommended and is not needed at all. The irritation is minimal and goes away after a shower. Here are the Pros and Cons.. Pros: Strong motor Safe blade Multi use Long reach handle Fast charge Cons: A bit bulky Takes a a bit to get used to Conclusion: This is a must own for any man that likes to take care of themselves and wants a simple and safe tool to help out. Its well built and powerful and will last. update: I am going to do a separate review for the new Mangroomer soon that I got after this one MANGROOMER Sku 211-6 Professional Do-it-yourself Electric Back Hair Shaver

Genius!
If you hate looking in the mirror in the morning because you feel like Sasquatch is looking back at you, and you have more hair on your back than on your head, this is the device you need; especially if you are in-between "significant others" and there is no one available to use a razor on your back. It will not shave you as cleanly as a razor with foam but it will do a very respectable job. It uses 2 AA batteries and is very light weight. The foldable handle and extension allow you to reach every area of your back - though it takes a bit of practice to figure out the best angle to approach different areas of your back from. I found that slow and easy, and with a very light pressure works best. Move the shaver back and forth very slowly over the same area and virtually all the unsightly hair is caught in only two passes. You will see some red marks on your back after the first couple uses, but they will vanish in 15 minutes. I have had no experience with the Mangroomer pulling or gouging. It's very smooth. The trimming is much finer and better than the trimming I get from the trimmer on my Braun foil head shaver which cost over $200. One caution I would offer: while this works great on one's back and could be used to do some manscaping for clean, sharp lines down below, I would never use this on sensitive areas with loose skin, if you get my drift. I think the chances of pulls or nips from the cutting head are just too likely. Stick to the Gillette or Schick multi-blade and foam for that area! But for the stated purpose, this is an indispensable grooming device to get rid of unwanted body hair.

Quality has really dropped for this product
I bought this model on May 19th, 2007, and used it for several years. It worked great for me. It shaved close (not quite to the skin, but so close you'd really have to look close to see any hair). It stayed sharp. I never even had to replace the shave head. Unfortunately, I knocked it off the counter about 2 months ago, breaking it beyond repair. Since I was so happy with it, I didn't hesitate to buy the same item again on June 30th, 2012. I finally had to use it this morning for the first time. This product is completely unusable. The shave head just catches and pulls the hair. The handle will not stay in the unfolded position. It causes pain of inconvenience, as well as physical pain. I'm extremely disappointed by how awful this product has become since I bought the first one over five years ago. It's been over a month since I bought it and the packaging is long gone, so I'm sure I won't be allowed to return it, but I'm going to try. - Update: I've amended the review to add an additional star for the efforts put forward by Mangroomer to try to provide a fully working device. Mangroomer stood by their offer in the reply to my initial review and sent out a replacement, though not without additional minor inconveniences (see reply string for details). Unfortunately, the first replacement I received was actually worse at cutting hair than the one it was replacing. The first one I received in 2012 would cut the hair for about 1/2 an inch before snagging; the replacement immediately snagged hair. Mangroomer, understandably, wanted to make sure I wasn't using the device improperly. After explaining that I'd been using this device properly, they sent another replacement. The second replacement works without snagging and pulling hair. Unfortunately, it does not work nearly as well as the one that I bought back in 2007, but if I go over an area several times, it will eventually cut the hair decently. The good news is that Mangroomer appears to really want to make sure their customers are satisfied. However, there is either a huge difference in quality between what they used to produce and what they are producing today, or I was just extremely lucky with the device I bought in 2007.

Works perfect!
I don’t know what some people are talking about... I’ve had a positive experience with this trimmer. I do bodybuilding and for competition we need to trim off all the body hair. It works perfect on all parts of the body. Even the private areas, balls and armpits. I haven’t been cut once by this trimmer. It’s actually the only trimmer I can use on my body without getting irritation or cuts. I got the one with the batteries so I don’t have to wait to charge it. Just pop in the batteries and go.
