Are you sure about the compound grits? It looks like you have it in reverse order for normal compounds, normally rouge is the highest, black lowest

Yes, we are sure. Our compounds are hand crafted in small company that makes polishing compound from almost 70 years. They are specially designed for leather, as they have ingredients (like beeswax) that conditions leather strops. Red color is coarse (but still gives finer finish than for example 8000 Japanese Whetstone), White is fine, Green very-fine, and White is ultra-fine. Almost every "true" manufacturer uses his own grit scale marked by color. There are also "false" manufacturers that just buy cheap compounds for machine polishing (high speed, high temperature rotary tools) and sell them as their own.

What's the best way to apply the compound in an even layer?

Accepted Answer

A sufficient amount of honing compound to be applied is about 1g per side. There is no need to cover a thick layer of the entire leather surface. All you need to do is to give it a colour that matches the desired gradation with the paste. We recommend using the included applicator.

How do you use all 5 compounds on only two sides??

Accepted Answer

It is impossible to use all the pastes at once. Four gradations of paste are included, so you can try out which one best suits your needs. Please remember not to mix pastes. A different type of paste can only be used after the previous one has been completely removed, and it is advisable to go from milder to sharper rather than the other way around. Because particles of a lower grade of abrasive may remain in the skin structure. To remove the paste, it is easiest to first scrape it off with a knife and then sand off the residue with sandpaper with a gradation of approx. 100. After cleaning the leather, apply a small amount of leather balm (approx. 1ml per side) and massage in until absorbed. This will help to soften and nourish the leather. After this treatment, a new portion of the chosen paste can be applied.

Do you sell larger quantities of the honing compound, also, which side of the small leather strips do you use for applying compound to the strop?

you can find most of the polishing compounds on amazon,  use the smoth side to apply to the strop or buy a bar of polishing compound there to that expensive .😊😊😊
