As good as the original as it gets! - I've got an original SNES usb controller that I bought from Infinite Nes Lives for 50 bucks. The quality of that controller is flawless but the price tag was tough to swallow. I wanted a 2nd SNES pad for 2 player action but just couldn't bring myself to pay another 50 dollars so I did some research and discovered the buffalo brand has quite a following from new and old gamers alike. For the price, I couldn't say no and decided to get one. I'm happy to report that it performs flawlessly and feels great. Side by side comparisons vs the original Japan controller (as most likely noted by numerous reviewers here) are that the buffalo controller is slightly lighter, slightly thinner and vs the original famicom pad, the dpad is slightly elevated on the buffalo controller. The differences are marginal and the only REAL noticable difference to my seasoned retro gaming hands is the lighter weight of the buffalo controller. I have ordered a roll of lead tape and will weigh out a strip of that and apply it onto the inside wall of the back half of the controller shell to match the weight of the original controller. Other than that minor nit-picking there is very little to complain about. If I had to change anything, it'd be to have the turbo buttons moved further up towards the top of the game pad. It's easy to accidentally press them instead of start/select. I don't actually use them so I may end up just removing the buttons all together. I've attached numerous photos comparing the weight of the 2 game pads and thickness at various parts of the controller. Bottom line is that if you want a near 100% authentic replica of the original super famicom game pad, look no further. Yes there are minor differences but the price gap between a real one and this one is FAR beyond the point of diminishing returns in my opinion unless you're a collector, which in that case, you most likely already have one or more of the original game pads anyways. Review: I'm BLOWN AWAY - Just a forward, I have not touched an official SNES controller in over 15 years, but when I picked this up, I got an overwhelming rush of nostalgia. This feels exactly like I remember, the button pressure, the material, the build quality all superb. The only difference I have noticed was that the Y and X buttons are not concave like they were on the original NA SNES. Not a huge deal to me, but it may throw some off. As far as I can see with images, all of the face buttons seem to be convex on the JP Super Famicom controller, and this is a Japanese product, so from what I can tell, it is accurate for that market. The install on an up-to-date (as of July 2018) Windows 10 machine was quick and easy. No additional software was needed, and Windows picked it up right away and installed the needed drivers. I was able to then map the buttons in SNES9x with no issues. I also noticed on the packaging that it is Android compatible I will try this on my Note8 (2017) and update my review (see photo). The input is 1:1 from what I can tell. I do NOT notice any delays or missed presses. So far I have tried Super Mario World, Street Fighter II Turbo, and Mega Man 2 (The Turbo was tested on Mega Man 2 with no issues). I was able to play all of them as well as I could back in the day (See: not great). The price may be a bit much for some ($15 at the time of purchase) but I feel that it is worth it if you are looking for an authentic controller experience. It conveniently connects to the PC via a USB port, and sports a long cable that allows a fair distance before it you have to worry about tugging. The controller itself is well constructed. It won't break easily and ensure it won't simply snap the cord while play. (under normal usage of course) It is worth noting that this will only function on a computer, and the games it can be used for are limited, as it lacks a number of buttons most systems and games require today, which is due to the age of the design. If you are considering this item, chances are you are looking for something for those classic games anyway. For that purpose however, it does its job and functions perfectly. I encountered no issues with the controller itself and it proved very responsive. As one can see, the item is a controller to connect to your computer in order to play PC games that support a controller. It lacks the trigger buttons and analog sticks that all modern controllers require, effectively limiting its usability to retro games with limited control schemes.
