Salon Quality! Review of four formulas.
I practiced cosmetology for over 30 years. I am not a chemist so this is a review of the visual results I saw after using four of the formulas over several months. I was shocked how good the HiBAR product and customer service is. I contacted the company by email with questions and received a prompt response. This is a list of what I watch out for when trying new products and what happened when I used HiBAR. Over-the-counter shampoos usually seem ok at first but quickly build up, cause damage or allergic reactions. Many of the eco-friendly shampoos don't lather or leave the nasty residue after the first use. Even expensive salon products can build up over time. Many are heavy. Allergic reactions can still happen due to all the color and frangrance they use to get your attention. I had none of these issues with. HiBAR. It gave lots of lather. My hair looked healthy and shiny. No itch... no residue...no damage. I purchased the sampler first. The GREEN.... seemed to be for normal hair. I think it will work for most hair types. It cleans well. It conditions without being heavy. If you're trying HiBAR for the first time this is probably a safe bet. The BLUE...... seamed to be for dry hair. It's a heavier conditioning without being greasy. It pulled the curl out of my fine hair but that's not hard to do. It will be good for people that need smoothing. I would try this if you have thick hair, wiry hair or really dry hair. This will work well if you flat iron. I would try it on tight curls or if you want wavy hair to air dry straighter. The YELLOW.... seems to be a thickening formula. It left my hair dry. That's not a bad reflection on the shampoo. Thickening salon formulas work the same way. They usually have a higher pH to blow out the cuticle for a fuller look. I only use thickening formulas on clients with thinning hair. I'd try this if coverage is your main concern. If your hair is thin, fine and short you may like this. Otherwise I would use the green formula and only condition the ends for fine hair. The PINK....... curly hair formula. It's exceeded my expectations. It gave more curl to my fine hair. It knocked out the frizz. It left my hair shiny and conditioned without being heavy. You may want to try this for any hair type if you're looking for a bouncy conditioned style. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked well on straight styles on some textures. If you have tight curls or thick hair I'd also try the blue formula to see which gives the effect you want.

Shocked at how well this works (fine, color-treated hair)
I bought the HiBAR Volumize shampoo and conditioner bars for my fine, color-treated hair and honestly let them sit on my shelf for six months because I was hesitant to try them. I assumed they wouldn’t lather well or would leave residue. I was completely wrong. The shampoo lathers better than many traditional liquid shampoos I’ve used. It feels rich and cleans thoroughly without stripping my color. The conditioner softens my hair beautifully without weighing it down — which is huge for fine hair. I’ve only been using them for about a week, but I’m genuinely impressed. They’re also compact and perfect for travel — no liquids, no spills, and easy to toss in a carry-on. They are a bit more expensive upfront, but you use very little each wash, so I suspect they’ll last a long time and even out cost-wise. If you’re hesitant like I was, just try them. I wish I hadn’t waited six months.

Good product with a stupid shape and excessive packaging
I first purchased in December 2019 and have used the Maintain shampoo and conditioner most of the time since then. I recently purchased another set as I'm about to run out in May 2020. Performance: Great shampoo. It clarifies and cleans well as long as you don't add too much. Since it doesn't foam as aggressively as liquid shampoo, it would be easy for a new user to apply too much. Rinse well. Mediocre conditioner. I thought about purchasing this shampoo with a different conditioner. This is not particularly moisturizing. Use more than you think you'd need if you have curls or coarse hair. You still won't run out faster than the shampoo. Scent: Pleasant light scent. Light enough for me and I usually prefer using unscented products. However... The scent will still attract blackflies! Fair warning if you were intending this for camping. Product shape: Absolutely idiotic. Because it's essentially a slightly tapered cylinder with rounded ends, there's no way to hang on to the product easily when your hands are wet. I swear I haven't made it through a single shower without the conditioner slipping out of my hands. These bars seriously need some corners. I contacted the manufacture about this and they claimed the shape is a 'feature' to make it easier to hold and gave me a 'lesson' on holding it. Seriously? Are you kidding me? Good grief. If that's their claim, then they totally failed in their efforts. I've tried many, many shampoo bars and this is the only brand that is difficult to hold onto in the shower. It seems like the shape was just a way to make the product look distinctively different than competitors. In that cosmetic regard, they succeeded. Packaging: Packing is excessive. Yes, yes, I know it's better than plastic. Still, because of the weird shape of the product there is easily twice as much packaging as similar products of the same weight (e.g. Ethique brand). Use: Wet your hair, rub the shampoo or conditioner on the scalp (shampoo) or ends (conditioner), then immediately place the bars outside the shower. Then, massage the product into your hair. For shampoo, I part my hair with my fingers, horizontally, and run the bar across my scalp near my nape, ears, and crown. There's plenty of cleaning for the rest of my hair. Getting the most out of your bars: I place my bars on bandanas for storage (great for travel, too). Using an elevated a soap dish would be good, too. This helps the product last for months. Must do: Keep the bars out of the shower stream and air dry outside the shower bay if you want to get your money's worth. If they get consistently wet they'll just melt. I generally wash my shoulder length wavy hair every other day and this has lasted five months. Good value.

Shampoo yes
I purchased the trial pack. Im going to Costa Rica in 2 weeks. I figured I'd try eco-friendly and easy to pack and use. I have fine, long blonde hair (natural). Can be on the dryer side. The shampoo felt good, nice lather, nice smell. Worked well. The conditioner would work best on shorter hair. The best part was the smell. No lather, that's ok.., No conditioning. I had to add my regular conditioner to the ends. I would buy the shampoo bar again.. Not the conditioner.

Absolutelly great product.
Using for just couple of days. Getting to use to it. I am thrilled how small and compact this solution is comparing to all those huge plastic bottles all around my bath. I shampoo only scalp, and this given shampoo lathers well in hands, tranfers well onto my scalp and roots, and washes off nicely. Feeling are absolutely different than when you use a regular shampoo, but I was ready for this and I have no issues. My hair is fresh, feels very smooth and moisturized. I don't want to say it leaves my hair greasy or anything like that, but it looks and feels like my hair washed 12 hours ago. I mean, I don't have this super fresh each hair is separate feeling, but at the same time hair is a bit smoother and softer than before. So I don't mind. I do sports every day and live in Texas, so washing my hair minimum 5 times a week is my routine. So there is no chance for me to test how it looks days after. I feel like this bar is also better for daily use than my usual shampoos. The decraler ingredients are all "clean" and now when I tried it, I trust it. Couple of days into using this product, no reaction or dry scalp, or anything like that. And I have extremely allergic and reactive skin and scalp. As for conditioner, I am still figuring out how to use it. I try to lather it in hands but it doesn't work well. No way I rub anything solid against my already damaged dyed blond hair. So it just takes me time. But conditioner itself is an awesome product. I feel the immediate difference when I wash it off. Hair gets so smooth and silky. Basically it has a full effect of a conditioner as it should be. It just takes me time to work it out in my hands and transfer it to the hair. No issues with combing my hair, even when wet 🥰 I purchased the unscented one. Obviously it has a trace of scent anyways, more like a soap. Nothing bothering. Very light and natural scent when washing and right after. Nothing noticable after the hair dries out. I basically am totally in love. Packaging was impeccable - very small/optimized, all paper. Delivered super fast. I am definitely a repetitive buyer. And also thinking about buying this for many of my friends.

At last!
This is my first review. I felt compelled to write it because I’ve searched so long for a shampoo and conditioner that works for my thin, wavy hair. I wanted to reduce my plastic use and I never had any luck with regular bottled shampoo/conditioner anyways. I tried all kinds of bar versions for years but a lot of them made my hair frizzy, didn’t lather well, or weighed my hair down. I gave up and tried other novel types of expensive shampoo like New wash but still no luck. I decided to give this hibar version a shot and I was amazed with the results. I started with just the shampoo and after letting my hair air dry I was impressed. It left my hair feeling clean, bouncy and even brought back some curl. By day two my hair looked amazing - not frizzy and had great volume. I can also go a few days without washing it. I just started using the conditioner and it’s been great as well. Happy to finally find a good shampoo and conditioner that works for my hair and I can’t believe it’s also eco!

Bought for a friend after I tried this
I have thick, coarse, curly, dry hair. I need moisture, frizz and curl control as well as a detangler. Normally I have lots of hair in my shower after washing not to mention the tangles. I read all the reviews before trying this. Was disappointed that some said it didn't last or lather. I just wanted something to take on my vacation for two weeks. TSA has the liquid restrictions and I was going to have to check a bag just to take enough conditioner/hair products for two weeks. My problem has been solved. I now have a shampoo and conditioner [ as well as a leave in bar). I tried this to be certain of the results before packing. This has been a blessing. No more tangles, my curls now behave, my hair is soft and smells great but not over powering. I even used the blow dryer to speed up the drying process. I never did this before unless I would flat iron just because I would look like einstein before the flat iron... even with product! Now I have the hair I wanted. The shampoo lathers well. Just wet your hair and the bar and lather up! The conditioner works great. I usually use alot of conditioner just to get through my tangles. With this conditioner I just rub this bar over the front and back of my wet hair after shampooing. When done I rub a little in my palms to get a very thin/light coating then finger comb it through my hair. I have a dry scalp so I make certain tu use some on my scalp, shower then rinse. I use the leave in conditioner the same way, but do not rinse. I use moisturizer shampoo and alternate the next shampoo session with a frizz control bar. Just twice a week and my hIr already feels and looks great compared to what it was. I bought some for my friends who needed the volume control instead of the moisture and frizz. Each one loves it and saw good results. One of them has difficulties holding bottles and washing her hair, but she said the bar was much easier for her hands to use. This is my new product! No more expensive shampoos and no more recycling bottles. I feel I am using less product than the bottles, so this is a fraction of what I was paying! The other savings is a plus as wel.. it goes right inside my personal item.. no more worrying about checking a bag just to get 2 weeks supply of hair product!!

Good but will eventually build up on your hair
I love the shampoo bars! I have normal to oily long hair and find it difficult to find a shampoo that works for me. It's either drying/frizzy or it's heavy/oily feeling. I started off with a sample pack that only had 3 different choices. Out of the 3 there was only one that worked well and that was the green Maintenance bar. I was needing to reorder when I noticed there were several other choices in this brand of bar I didn't know about. Since my hair has been thinning a bit I decided to try this one for volume and body. I'm so glad I did! It leaves my hair fuller but light and soft at the same time. It doesn't weigh my hair down by the next day as others have, so I can go longer in between shampoos now. The darker color is the conditioner and the lighter is the shampoo making it easy for me to know which one is which. It has a nice lather, just make sure your hair is very soaked then rub the bar on your scalp and underneath your hair, then message it in until a lather forms. Be sure and keep these bars up and out of the way when showering so they don't dissolve and you will get longer use out of them. Very happy with this one. It will be my new go too. UPDATE: So as you can see in my review, I loved this when I first started using it. It's still a good product but be aware, after some time of use it will eventually start building up on your hair and give it that heavy waxy feel. I had to change it out for something else. Build-up is typically caused by film-forming ingredients. Some examples of those are mineral oil, petroleum, waxes, butters, heavy oils, and high molecular weight silicones (like dimethicone and amodimethicone). These types of ingredients are typically not water-soluble and resist rinsing off in the shower. Look for a clarifying shampoo that is sulfate-free and contains natural ingredients like tea tree oil, which can help soothe an irritated scalp. Rinse with apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is a natural ingredient that can help remove product build-up and restore the pH balance of your hair.
