Q: How does this hub differ from the cloud shaped version?

In very little ways, really it's down to if you want a cloud shaped light, or if you want a more stealth version with the mini (a small white square) Both have exactly the same features with wifi Bluetooth and an IR blaster for TVs and air conditioners etc

Q: Can this only be operated in the same room as the unit or can it used remotely?

The hub mini can be controlled remotely using the app on a smartphone; It connects to your wifi network to access the SmartBot service. The hub mini can only control devices that are in the same room, as it's effectively an infrared remote control.

Q: will this control other smart plugs? mine are Teckin, is this compatable? I am looking to control a heater in my garage

If your plugs are compatible with IFTTT service, which the teckin brand seem to be, you should be good to set up rules for them and automate. Please be aware that there is a few second delay when using IFTTT. But in most use cases you shouldn't notice this

Q: My tv turns off ok but doesnt turn on can someone help? When plugged into direct wall socket power it does any suggestions?

If your using a usb to power the hub on tv some tv may cut power to usb which will turn hub off as well try using a different usb eg sky box usb plug.
