Immensely Fun
Pilotwings Resort for the Nintendo 3DS lets you fly airplanes, jetpacks, and hang gliders around an interesting island. This game is equally good in 3D and in 2D. If you can play in 3D, you get a wonderful sense of depth as you curl lazily around the lighthouse or shoot through the natural arch of stone. If you need to play in 2D for headache or other reasons, the game is still perfectly playable and fun. Each type of vehicle gives a different type of experience. The plane lets you zoom high in the air and bank sharply around objects. The jetpack gives you precision control like a hummingbird. I adore the hang glider best of all. It is incredibly peaceful to drift across the island, taking in the beauty, and floating with the birds. There are multiple modes of gameplay here. You can simply take your time exploring the island, looking for all the I markers which tell you about the interesting points. You can also do their challenges where you have to land in a certain spot, follow a certain path, or so on. Each time of gameplay has its own rewards. You also unlock features (time of day, etc.) as you go. I enjoy this game immensely. I'm not shooting enemies or destroying things. I'm challenged, yes, but it's an internal challenge - can I make that turn? Can I land exactly on the bulls-eye? The ramp-up of their tutorials is great. They help you learn the skills you need while having fun at the same time. Are there any down sides here? I suppose if you found flying around boring then you'd probably not like this game. There aren't zombies to demolish. No vampires. No swearing. But for most players, I think this game is a perfect part of your 3DS collection of games. There are times when it's quite fun to sit back, relax, and test out your flying skills. For those times, this game is highly recommended. I purchased this game with my own funds in order to do this review.

A great all-around launch title for the 3DS
I think it won't be long before 3DS games will be doing bigger and better things, but as far as launch titles go, this game should be a good middle of the road title. It's designed to appeal to a pretty broad spectrum of gamers, in my opinion, by making it easy enough to pick up and play that my young son (age 5) could figure it out pretty quickly. But there's enough content and difficulty in the later levels that a seasoned gamer will still feel challenged, at least for a while. After a month of near daily play, I've been able to unlock and finish the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum missions. I've still not managed to unlock the final "secret" set of missions. Platinum is plenty difficult for me! I don't always have the 3D effect turned up all the way when I'm playing this title, but the visuals are really very impressive, and this game does a good job of showing what the 3DS is all about. Exploring all the little nooks and crannies of the island in Free Flight mode is very enjoyable, and has a lot of replay value. If there were any complaints to be made, it would have to be the complete lack of multiplayer. I would have liked to see a head-to-head mode, and the ability to share scores with people on my Friend List.

Very good game IF you can get a deal on it!
Pilotwings Resort is a good game BUT it is not worth $40. I got mine for only $20 from amazon. Now it is $29. I believe that with deals like this it is worth it so buy it now before the price goes up. In my opinion the game is not so short in content. There is about 45 missions that you have to do and after you get all the missions to 3 starts you unlock diamond mode which is 3 more missions. It will take you some time to get all missions to 3 stars, nonetheless to get all perfect scores so the game will last a long time. After you finish mission mode, you can collect i points, balloons and rings in free flight mode. It has a 2-minute limit but you can unlock more time later by popping balloons. That is basically the only annoying thing in the game. You can control 6 different air crafts; the airplane, the jet-airplane, the glider, the pedal glider, the jet pack and the rocket jet pack. By collecting stunt rings you unlock dioramas which are beautiful to look at. The 3D- effect in this game is perfect. It is smooth and provides depth which helps to judge distances. It does not make your eyes strain at all and is just how I would like all game's 3D-effect to be like this. The sound is good I guess. The music is cool and calm. This game is a calming experience and the music sure helps. The sound effects are good. All in all, Pilotwings resort is a good title but it is not worth $40 dollars. If you can get it at least 10 dollars cheaper then I suggest you buy it since it is a very good game.

Fun game to distract you from more attention/time consuming games. I haven't put too much time into it, but have enjoyed it so far.
