Bosch Professional 25-piece PointTeQ HSS Twist Drill Bit Set (for Metal, ProBox, Drill Driver Accessories)

A great set of drills at a very competitive price. I was struggling to find decent dill bits, and had almost resigned myself to paying a lot of money for top brands such as Presto or Irwin. These are more than sharp enough and the smaller drill bits maintain their sharpness over hundreds of holes easily. I've managed to take the edge off some of the larger drills (10mm and larger) drilling through 5 and 6mm thick mild steel plate and angle, in a security door construction project. Using a good cutting fluid or compound really helps - you can feel the difference when drilling. I used Trefolex with the larger drill bits, which is a paste at room temperature that liquifies as the workpiece temperature increases. I got a really good "bite" into the metal and the drill bits powered through every time. Replacements that match the set, i.e. individually wrapped/packaged/sold PointTeQ drills are easy to find on Amazon and are cheap enough to buy, if you're not into drill sharpening. I've used them in a pillar drill, a 130Nm combi drill and a domestic mains drill, and they're as good as anything I've ever used. I did a full one-year machine tool training course when I was young, and the college I was at only ever used Presto, Dormer and Eclipse brands. This Bosch set reminds me of the kind of performance I've always expected from HSS drill bits.

I recommend very sharp bores through anything.

These rip through steel, which is why I bought them after a YT video recommended them for drilling into thick steel. My cheapo bits just wouldn't even dent certain steel. May as well be drilling with a hole punch, lol. After using at low speed with lots of pressure, was able to get through 8mm steel with the 12mm bit, after making a pilot with the 4mm, switching up to 8mm before going all the way with the 12mm. Tried the 12mm off the bat for another hole and it seemed to take much longer on it's own. I may have blunted it a bit but I was using plenty of oil. Saw bits of smoke trails from shards that were coming off as I was going though, which is always a good sign. Time will tell how long they last, they are not as sharp as they were straight out of the box after a few uses, but then you wouldn't expect them to be at this price. The main thing is they still get through thick steel. Only downside in using pilot holes is that the next size drill bit up seems to not want to sit firm and it wobbles before it makes a new opening, meaning it's hard to follow the centre of the hole if you don't have a drill press. Which I think I seriously need.

Really good quality for the price I paid. 25 HSS drill bits make this product versatile for everyday use. Bits are also very sharp so can be used right away without any extra sharpening. Whole set is nicely packaged in a thick plastic box that separates each drill bit. This also makes it portable so You can take it with You without any extra cases. Would I but it again? Short answer Yes.

Good range of drill bit sizes. Though for me the bits potentially are brittle on the smaller sizes. I was drilling a 5mm hole in mild steel at about 800RPM, the bit grabbed momentarily and snapped. I have read others report the same thing. This was using a pillar drill and happened as the hole was through to the other side of the material. I had drilled already a 3mm pilot hole. I also drilled some 8mm holes that had pilot holes, and it drilled with no issues even though it again snatched just a completing the hole, that drill bit did not break. These bits are sharp and did a good job in mild steel. For me, i will not be buying this set again. Need something with longevity on the smaller sizes.
