Great Varnish Brush for artists
Just received this and although I haven't used it yet...I'm very happy with the purchase...I especially like the bristle texture (soft yet firm) and its thin (not thick like my previous varnish brushes) As an oil painter artist I've tried to many different final varnish brushes...this one appears to be just what I've been looking for!

Good brush for gesso and oil grounds
At the listed retail price of $30, I don't think I would have found this brush to be all that great...but you can't beat the $5.50 that I paid for it on Amazon Prime. At this price, it's worth buying a few to keep on hand. I use it for applying traditional gesso to wooden panels and smoothing oil ground on canvas and hardboards. I've bought packages at places like Michael's and A.C. Moore that look like this brush and contain 3-4 different size brushes of this same type for just a few dollars. The quality of this brush is MUCH nicer though. The cheap multi-packs tend to have rather meager, uneven bristles and the metal ferrule that holds the hairs on the handle is not tight...so I'm constantly having to extract brush bristles that have fallen out into the gesso or ground and then smooth it all out again. No problems with this brush though.

Hairs come out while varnishing
I paid for this one because it stated that hairs do not come out. Not true. Had to keep pulling them off my painting while varnishing

You get what you pay for...
These are the definition of cheap. I wasn't expecting them to be great, but even before I used them for the first time I could see the bristles breaking and falling out, and pointing in every direction. At best, use these as a prop in a play, but not for actual painting. Even young kids would get annoyed.

so far, after 5 uses,
, this is a good brush; the reason why i went a little more pricey than my usual is that i was having problems with bristles coming out; so far with this brush it has not been a problem

Not bad for the price
This is a budget priced Da Vinci hog bristle brush. The bristles aren't interlocked and the flags do not point in. The top of the brush is slightly splayed. It's good for broad flat applications and washes.

Overpriced
Is overpriced for what is. Not good quality I'm afraid.

Great brush, fast shipping but not enough protection
For the price I paid for this on sale, I'm happy enough with this brush for what I wanted it for; mostly for sizing and traditional rsg gesso / oil ground for wood panels and stretched canvas.I did have a few hairs work their way out during the first dozen or so panels, but now it seems to be holding out fine without further shedding. It cleans well and I'm not getting and curling along the bottom.I was thinking I might look at more of these as a potential replacement to my favourite escoda varnish brush which was destroyed, but it's just not smooth enough compared to my old escoda (although I paid significantly less for this compared to that one ). For canvas prep it's really nice and the quality was good. Also to note, Amazon just shipped ALL of the various brushes randomly loose in a box with other items. I was really fortunate that the bristles weren't permanently damaged, but would suggest if ordering brushes, to make that an exclusive order so as to avoid potential damage from other objects.
