He ensured the dead received their burial rights and stood watch over the souls in the afterlife and assisted in their resurrections. Anubis was judge and jury of the deceased. His army of messengers were charged with punishing those who violated tombs or offended the Gods. Also known as the Lord of Mummification, he was also called upon to enforce curses for vengeance.
