I first ordered this book for a Kindergarten rock lesson and actually chose another for my particular lesson. I’m still keeping the book but it goes into the different types of rock which isn’t something I wasn’t to introduce yet to my littles.

    Collecting rocks is cool. You can find rocks anywhere you go. There are photos of granite, quartz, basalt and other common rocks. Simple explanations of Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic also a brief page on magma and volcanoes. Nice drawings of how the rocks are layered. It has ideas of  where to go to collect rocks and how you can store them in an egg carton or box with dividers. There is a drawing of kids looking thru a rock book, appearing to compare their collection with the photos in the book. The book encourages kids to collect rocks and try to figure out what types they find. A good starter book, especially for my 5 year old who is obsessed with rocks, any and all rocks.

Gave this to my 8 yr. old grandson.  He loves rocks and is looking forward to Spring when we can go out and look for some of the ones mentioned in the book.  He's an excellent reader, so he's already learned some of the names.  If your kids or grand kids like rocks,, this is a fun and informative book.
