Frommer's Chicago day by day (Day by Day Guides)

As someone who lives in Chicago, I’m often asked by friends who live near and far for recommendations on things to do, restaurants to try, museums to visit and places to stay. I have my standbys and a pretty good grasp of what’s happening throughout the city and I *still* learned of a bunch of new places to check out from this updated Frommer’s Guide to Chicago. Whether you’re a music lover or architecture buff, foodie or fan of the quirky, you won’t be disappointed because there is something in here for everyone. The one thing I really loved was the itinerary ideas. Many of my friends have just a day because they’re here for a conference so they’ll hit me up for ideas of what they can cram in one day. Or they’re here with their families and need ideas of things to do with kids of varying ages. Or they’re staying in a particular neighborhood. The book has an itinerary for 1, 2 3 or 5 days as well as ideas for families. It has a run-down of what each neighborhood offers. My favorite is the neighborhood strolls of the el line – perfect for those visiting and don’t have a car or for those of us who want to explore a new neighborhood in our own city without four wheels. I can’t recommend this book enough and it now happily occupies a space on my bookshelf. I’m excited to use it next time I have a free weekend to explore or to use it to provide recommendations to friends who are local or visiting from afar.

I wanted to find a great guide to Chicago to convince someone who has never been to go. This turned out to be a terrific tour guide. It provides pictures of the spectacular views of the city and does a great job planning what to visit based on the number of days you plan to stay. This informative guide makes me want to go back to Chicago tomorrow if I could.

Top-notch journalist and writer Kate Silver offers a view of Chicago only a devoted local can! I've stocked my guest room with copies and always give them to new arrivals to the city as well as visitors.

Wow, just when I think I knew Chicago, Kate gives me a million more ideas of fun things to do and see! I lived in Chicago for three years, and wish I would have had this guide back then. I'm now lucky to go back often, and will make sure to bring this book with me each time I go. A hugely valuable resource.
