Are the laser lines supposed to be solid? Mine are constantly flickering when the unit is on.

The laser lines will flicker when the level is tilted more than 3 degrees out of level horizontally or vertically. This is to make you aware that the self-leveling feature may be compromised and not giving an accurate reading because the unit is tilted too much in one direction or another. Unfortunately, that is the nature of all self-leveling laser units, no matter who the manufacturer. For them to display their laser lines accurately the unit must be sitting at a plane within 3-4 degrees of the one you wish to check for level, which for a horizontal line means you almost have to have the laser unit at the same height as the line you're checking for level.

I’m mounting a shelf on the wall about 2 feet from the ceiling. Can I use this leveler to auto-level the shelf that high?

It won't auto level at that angle, but what I do is put it on a tripod, aim straight ahead and let it autolevel, and tighten the tripod wand. Then turn the switch to manual, carefully untighten the tripod wand and aim it up to the target. It still could be slightly off at the new angle but probably not detectably.

Can I use this to find high spots on a basement ground?

Yes, if you use a ruler or tape measure to measure from the floor to the horizontal beam. High spots will give lower measurements.

Non-Self-Leveling mode is Fantastic

Includes self leveling and non self leveling for a complete functional package at a fraction of the cost. Build quality is okay and actually perfect for an occasional user vs a pro daily user. To get this functionality from a Bosch you'll be paying 6X the cost. Accuracy is perfect for a 30x30 room. I have a pair of Greens and Reds for use with a trackcar wheel alignment project for which I need the Non-Self-Leveling function. This way I can compare the rear (green) and front (red) adjustments relative to one another without self-leveling throwing me off. But you do have to pre-level and lock all four equally before starting.

Got the job done!

This doesn’t come with a tri pod but can be attached - I was lazy/cheap and stacked paint cans on a ladder 🪜 I had visions of a cutie vertically striped room for my little boys and this thing saved my sanity

Low light use only!

This works pretty good, but only in low light settings. It’s got a good range on the lights, but if it’s daylight or well-lit. Forget about it! Great for hanging pictures and stuff indoors. Not great for framing a house or any other building project.

Not perfectly leveled, but right priced

It's good for its price, for a short distance. Its auto leveling is mostly good for picture frames and other casual items, but it's not accurately leveled. But I recommend for it's price.

Wish I Had This Years Ago!

Level guide is not true

I checked the line using a 4' bubble level. Over just a 2' span, there was an 1/8" difference. This laser level fails at the most basic function: proving a level line!
