I'm quite impressed
I barely give any review, but, this time, I decided to do so, because I was very afraid after reading all the comments. Yes, the apps don't work anymore (or at least I couldn't make them work yet). I believe the Android version inside the Moon is too old for the new apps to work. And those apps (Netflix and Youtube) are constantly requiring updating. I didn't try to download new apps as instructed in the Royole website though. I may try it later. The videos I put in the Moon box' storage and in a pendrive worked both perfectly well, both in 2D and 3D. And the HDMI also worked flawlessly with both my Samsung smartphone (on Dex mode inside the Moon, which is really nice) and my Blu ray reader. The Moon detects immediately which source you are using and the image is always crystal clear. No spectacles needed, even if your source is an old red and blue DVD. You have to configure the 3D source (SBS or anaglyphe) in the settings beforehand. I should say I am quite impressed with its quality, chiefly when watching 3D contend. The algorithm works as a charm even with red and blue 3D sources. It is able to separate it into two different images, one for each eye, and add colour correction. I should say I have never watched those red/blue DVDs of mine with such a wonderful image and sound. If the 3D source is SBS, as in Blu ray discs, it will be even better, because there will be no colour loss and the image is full HD. For some specific bad comments I've read somewhere before, I didn't have any of the issues I read. For example, although I do not have a small nose, the Royole Moon never touched it (I should say I don't have a big nose either, just a normal one for European standards). The Moon is surprisingly quite comfortable. The only thing that made me a bit worry is that the Moon box gets very hot sometimes. I have not had any fog issue either. When using it, you have the impression of watching an enormous projection far away, as in a theatre, because your eyes are not angling inwards. The real image size is bigger than I thought, reaching the edge of the lenses. It is after all a very relaxing mode of watching. After one hour, Royole Moon reminds you to stop for a while, so you will not force your eyes. I hope this comments will help you make a proper choice if you intend to give it a chance, since the price dropped so much. For someone like me, with a huge 3D collection, it is a nice gadget to have.

Save up for a nose job first
I don’t think I have ever received an item from Amazon (or anyone else) which made me decide to send it back for a refund the same day. This was a first for the Royole Moon headset. Prior to deciding to buy this headset, I watched endless reviews on YouTube and read dozens of reviews on Google, not once did I came across anything which mentioned the numerous faults with this headset. My first objection is to do with placing of the headset on your head. I am an average Western guy with an average head size and an average nose size. This thing would not sit tight on my head unless it was plonked right on top, which meant all the weight was on my nose. I can tell you that 24 hours later, after using it for only one hour, I still feel a slight ache on the top bone of my nose. Whatever anyone says, the Royole Moon was most definitely designed for people with turned up noses which curve inwards at the top, if you have a straight nose, or heaven forbid a “Roman nose”, you might as well start saving up for a nose operation to remove any aberration which might stand in the way of the weight this headset flaunts. My second objection is to do with the fact that all the online entertainment built into the set is in Japanese (or perhaps Korean) and I don’t mean only the movies language but the actual screen language as well. Unless you read Japanese there is no way you can navigate through this option. Incidentally, the offer of downloading 3 full length movies from the Sony website for free (extensively advertised in the box and elsewhere) expired in November 2019 so no joy there either. Having decided not to be beaten by all the negativity emanating from my purchase, I thought I would use the included browser to connect to my home network and test the home streaming facility. I use Serviio for this and had no trouble connecting to it, however, playing a movie was an impossible task as the window which displays the movie would not expand to full screen. After watching 2 minutes of this on a window which filled up only a third of the display AND an aching nose, I gave it up. Ok, I was still feeling positive so I hooked the headset up to my Blu-ray player to test its 3D Blu-ray capabilities. The first cable refused to connect, so I tried two other cables with the same result. I changed the settings on the Blu-ray player, I tried the second HDMI output, I hooked it up to the 7.1 receiver, tried that and just about all the outputs, no joy! Feeling beaten I packed it all up and initiated a return from Amazon. Well done Royole! You won!

Not 100% but at least 95%
Decided to take a punt on this as I had an old style system back in the late 90s. Display. This is HD, it’s absolutely stunning, the clarity is superb, adjustable focus aids and width, you do lose a bit of the bottom corner depending on where you sit the goggles, all menu and volume show up from adjustment on the headphones Comfort. I was concerned after reading the other reviews as my nose bridge is quite big but it’s fine, the only thing I found is that I sweated on the pad but my house is warm anyway. The headphones adjust fine. Sound. The headphones are noise cancelling, not as good as my Bose but still good, the sound adjusts by running your finger around the edge of the earpiece, this brings up a display inside, very cool In summary. Pros…stunning picture quality, on screen display, comes with Netflix and other apps, amount of adjustment, plays 3d bluray beautifully, good price Cons. Fairly weighty on the head, edges can be cut off depending on how the goggles are worn, that’s about it I will be keeping this, certainly not disappointed, bear in mind I have a purpose home cinema with an 8ft screen and 4k 3d projector so I do know what I’m talking about here.

5 out of 10 it's ok
5 out of 10 it's not as good as YouTube reviews say it is. You would need a wireless mouse to operate it correctly. I will try other products before a true review can be said about this system.

Beautiful image quality housed within a terrible headset!
Pros: Beautiful screen, blu-ray quality, zero screen door effect. The blacks are nice and inky black due to the OLED technology. The colors are punchy and vibrant. I tried some 3D blu-rays and they were fantastic, no crosstalk. The screen is the only pro, I wanted to like this product so much because of the screen, honestly if that screen was in another product I would buy it immediately, however the cons are HUGE in this headset, and ultimately I returned it. I gave this product 2 stars simply because of the screen. Now here comes the bad news. Cons: The headset is uncomfortable, VERY uncomfortable. This could be a subjective criticism but as a man, my nose does not fit in the headset properly. The space for your nose is very narrow and hard plastic, it literally hurts, honestly unless you have a small slender nose this is going to be uncomfortable. When reading text on the screen it would blur, which would be fixed by shifting the headset down slightly, except I couldn't because of my nose. Its possible that your facial balance fits perfectly, but if it doesn't there's little to nothing you can do. The weight of the device also pushes down onto the bridge of your nose making it unbearable after a few minutes. The PSVR and Gear VR are 100k more comfortable than this. The headphones. First of all I would rather use my own headphones, it would keep the unit cost down as well as give more flexibility. Other reviews said the headphones are great, well they're not. They're not terrible but not great either, I would have much rather used my audio technica m50's since they sound significantly better. Other times I might want to use ear buds or a headset with a mic for online gaming, but no. This does NOT work with a PS4 Pro, the Xbox one S works, but the PS4 would not display. The UI is pretty bad, it doesn't need to be amazing but coupled with a bad touch pad it can be pretty tiresome. The cost, it's not cheap, which is fine provided the cons list is short to not nonexistent. The next point is the biggest con. THE LENSES Oh my, why on Earth did they design such a beautiful screen only to ruin it with the lenses. They are too small. They actually cut off the corners of the screen. Let me repeat that. THEY CUT OFF THE CORNERS OF THE SCREEN. That is unacceptable, why this wasn't a concern when prototyping the device I'll never know. Yes, you can scale the screen back to fit however here's the problem; First of all the screen doesn't give the illusion of a big cinema screen, it looks like a tablet or phone held in front of you, it doesn't have any sense of scale unlike the Gear VR or PSVR ( I realise these are VR devices but I'm just talking about watching an image on a black background, those 2 devices do it with a much grander sense of scale). The screen already has an unimpressive sense of scale, downsizing it makes it even less impressive. Secondly these screens project a 1080p image, it's beautiful, but Blu-rays are 1080p, if you scale back the screen you are essentially removing detail from the image, the smaller the screen the more pixels are removed from the blu-ray. This is a premium product, I didn't purchase it to downscale my movies! In conclusion, the screen is amazing in clarity and colour reproduction, unfortunately it is housed in an awfully designed headset. At a price of £650 it can not be recommended in the slightest. What were the designers thinking? Avoid.

... Avegant Glyph and the Royole Moon 3D is the best of the bunch IMO
I have used the Sony HMZ-T3W and the Avegant Glyph and the Royole Moon 3D is the best of the bunch IMO. The screen size is bigger and slightly better than the Sony, and is bigger and only slightly less quality than the Glyph. It is more comfortable to wear than the Sony and more immersive than both the Sony and the Glyph. It also has more options than the Glyph which only has HDMI input, where as the Moon has wireless, bluetooth and usb storage options for media. There is also a browser if you want to surf the net, although this isn't easy using the onscreen keyboard, but you can attach a usb mouse to move the cursor. Before upgrading the system firmware I did have problems with the 3D staying on, but after the upgrade there was no problems. Definitely recommend if you want a Personal video viewer.

Bad
The one star would be for the few demos that are included... they were the only things that actually worked properly, none of the apps worked.. royole sweet wouldn't except code, Netflix wouldn't work at all, the installed YouTube app not supported anymore, signed into my own YT account but was not able to go full-screen with it, no google play, the only thing I got working was prime video well that's good then I hear you say - well no it's not because all of the lip sync was out, and then to top it off I then noticed either dead pixels or dust appear on the screen behind the lens... well having un-removable dust start to appear is one thing I knew I wouldn't be able to put up with.. and yes I did update the firmware, there needs to be another massive update again before they should sell this. refunded.

Excellent system with minor flaws
The quality of the image on the screen and of the sound on the surround sound headphones is excellent. The image does present as a cinema screen about 20 metres away and the 3D effect is great. The manipulation of the controls is very functional even with additional drives attached via the hdmi input. Using a wired or wireless mouse via the usb input makes control and selection of items much simpler. The minor flaws are the size of the eyepieces which don't give a full 360 degree view of the screen with the bottom corners sometimes blocking the lower views of the screen. Also the nose piece does cause some discomfort and even mild pain as the plastic is quite hard when the headset is resting on your nose. Otherwise it is quite comfortable to wear although your eyes in such an enclosed space for a long period will need rested. Finally the price is quite high and I wouldn't have purchased the Royole Moon only I had been given a present of some Amazon vouchers.
