Review: Couldn't afford a silky - Got this because silky saws are expensive. This is a push and pull saw and works very well. Cut down some samplings that were growing in places they shouldn't around the house. Cut down a nasty crab apple tree with easy (no crab apple pie to worry about again) I'm happy now thanks to this saw. Didn't have to sell any organs to get a good saw thats better than walmart saws. As good as a silky and a much lower cost and I will be buying again in case the crab apple trees get out of control. Easy maneuverability, good thick blade no complaints. The End

I use an extended pouch with Molle attachments (PAL system) to attach it to one of my gear sets, and it's ready to go. You never know when you might need to take down that sapling and fashion a spear to keep the zombies at bay or poke a slow hiker on the trail! Seriously, this is very well regarded product - sharp, easy to deploy and use, ergonomic, compact, and effective. There are a couple of good brands - and as someone who loves genuine Japanese back saws - this one is among good company in my collection. Bring on those zombies, I am ready.

**Q: How would this compare to the Corona RS 10" folding pruning saw?**
A: Apples and oranges. The Corona 10" is excellent, cuts great, it's 3" longer than the 7" (not 9") Bahco blade, and it's curved which is a big advantage cutting curved logs/branches. It's also a little longer and a little heavier (9.5 oz). If you're serious enough about cutting wood to justify carrying a little larger saw, or you are car camping/biking/kayaking and weight is just not crucial, bring the Corona 10". If a slightly lighter and smaller saw are more important to you then the Bahco has the advantage. Either will cut great. For home firewood/landscaping use, get the largest/longest saw that's comfortable. Corona also makes a 14" version and Fiskars makes a great 13" lightweight wood saw. For backpacking and hiking the Bahco would be the more compact choice.

**Q: Can you replace the blade on this unit?**
A: Yes, you can replace the blade in this saw. The Bahco blade is held in to the handle with a large Philips screw on the locking button side, and a locking nut in a captive slot on the reverse side. I haven't seen the exact blade used in the Laplander saw listed separately for sale here in the US, but it's a common replacement overseas, especially in Europe.NOTE: The 396HP blade is for the 396HP 7-1/2" saw, the 396JT blade is for the 396JT Japanese Tooth style saw. Both of these blades are NOT the original blade for the 396-LAP 8" Laplander saw. **Q: How long is the blade and how long is the saw when it is closed?**
A: Actually not 9 inches blade length but just under that. I dont have means of exact measures at this time. I would guess its about an 8 in blade and 9 inch handle that it folds into. So the closed length is actually 9 in.

**Q: Does it cut both forward & back?**
A: I have not yet used it in the field, but by looking at the teeth, it looks like the cutting movement is back only? I could be wrong..

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Folding Saw

Yes, you can go out with a tomahawk and Daniel Boone your own firewood. But while it is rewarding in the exercise it provides, it also results in a lot of wastage - ever see all the wood chips that accumulate? The laplander saw addresses this. The cut is clean and leaves minimal wastage. The handle of the saw is plastic, hence impervious to drying out, getting wet, rotting, etc. The lanyard is also a nice touch. The blade is coated to prevent rust, but will eventually wear off - but it's nothing a light application of oil won't address. Another issue to consider is the tensile strength and flexibility of the blade. I've had some blades wobble and flex like a soft boned drunk, which can be very disconcerting when you're really getting into some energetic push pulling. I even had one where I bent the blade mid-push. My fault but still scare-eee. But this Laplander blade does the Goldilocks flex (not too much, not too little, but just right). A minor weak point in these types of saws is the folding joint. Granted, the blade will probably bend before the joint snaps. Granted, I've never had this happen, but imagine the consequences of joint failure? Yikes! A lot of the cheaper, cheesier ones I've seen have given me pause. Yes, eventually all joints will loosen over time, but a little Lok Tite and you're good for another season. I like this particular Laplander. Granted the 8-inch blade could be longer, but I think we're talking trade-offs here. If you want a longer cutting surface, knock yourself out - pack in a bucksaw or a tree saw, by all means. But if you're intending on some light, around camp sawing, this fits the bill nicely. Yes, there will always be a need for a good hatchet (splitting and cutting small logs, basic, last-ditch defense, etc), but for getting it from the field to the campground, this Laplander saw will probably fit the bill. Every thing has its purpose and this meets the bill for me. It is sturdy, lightweight, compact, and efficient and I would recommend it for its intended purpose.
