Great holster, no "thinking" necessary for the thumb release
I spent a good amount of time researching a concealment holster for my Glock. I was looking a holster both for every day carry and for IDPA sport shooting events without breaking the bank too much. There are a lot of fan's out there for Blade Tech and CompTac holsters, with good reason, they make good holsters. But, I kept returning to the BlackHawk Serpa line and the SafariLand ALS line as "good values" with positive, locking retention instead of just friction retention. After much thought and research, I ruled out the Serpa because I didn't like the idea of manipulating my trigger finger during the draw. Just me, I like the idea of a thumb release much better. All of the Safariland videos say that the ALS thumb release requires no "thought" or manipulation to actuate the release. I'm here to tell you that is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. If you start with the thumb on your draw-hand in the "thumbs up" position, or the 1911 thumb safety position, simply grasping the handgun will release the retention mechanism. Every time, smoothly and without any conscious thought. I had some slight doubts going in, but I'm a believer now. And, the ALS stands for Automatic Locking System. It is automatic. Holster the gun and the lock clicks into place on the ejection port. My only con, would be how stiff it is to get the holster on and off with the paddle affixed. As others have mentioned, the holster features a tab (removable) that hooks under your belt. It takes a bit to get the paddle holster on and off, especially compared to my Probus for a different gun, but I think it is impossible to draw the gun, holster and all... the holster stays put. And, tight to your body. My Glock fits perfectly in the holster, goldilocks, not too tight, not too loose. Didn't need to touch the tension adjustment screw. Finally, some have mentioned that their holster did not come with the belt loop attachment. Mine absolutely did. In fact, it came in a retail SafariLand plastic clamshell package, the easy open kind, not the kind that requires a chainsaw to open. The belt attachment is standard from SafariLand for the 6378, so perhaps retailers other than Amazon are separating them. My order was fulfilled by Amazon. PROs: - Fits the gun perfectly - Inexpensive, purchased with Prime shipping at about a third off retail - Simple, positive thumb-release retention - Paddle fits tight and with belt tab, it's not coming off nor moving with the draw CONs: - Tight tension between the paddle and holster plus a belt tab/hook takes a few seconds to get on and off. -

Safariland Quality
For what I needed it for it works really well, same safariland quality as all the other holsters of theirs I own. I usually run a 6360 level 3 holster on my Glock 17 gen 5. This fits it like a glove and isn’t too heavy, it’s easy to draw and if you practice it’s a smooth and quick draw. I ordered foliage green and it looks good it’s more of a gray color but still a nice color, I ordered it to be able to conceal carry in winter but also have a good quality open carry holster that’s secure. It’s level one but with the thumb release it’s secure also some reviews state it won’t fit a gen 5 Glock it will, mine is all factory and I wear a shoulder mounted light so don’t use a weapon light. It is a bit snug but secure in fit and still a smooth quick draw. The paddle is a good quality and still fits secure and can tug on the gun holstered and it doesn’t come off the belt, and at least for the non light version the trigger is completely covered so no accidental discharges.

Fantastic Holster
Absolutely great holster, I really am not sure I could find a better one. My 92FS fits nice and snug, the retention device is secure, it isn't coming out without touching the little lever, yet the lever is in a natural position for the thumb to press, is pressed easily without issue, and will draw every time with no delay when needed, very fast draw yet extremely secure with a real retention device...best of both worlds really. The paddle doesn't look like it'd be very comfortable, but it is. You could easily forget there's a paddle in at all and think it was on your belt. Also has a part that clicks in around your belt, so not only is the pistol very secure in the holster, the holster isn't going to be pulled out on accident either. In fact, that's my only real complaint: the holster is easy to put on, very difficult to take off (that part holds it on a little too securely). Also comes with belt attachment to remove the paddle and use on belt, and that's adjustable and can be put high/low and adjust the cant (with the paddle there's a slight, maybe 10-15 degree cant, which is about perfect for concealing on a hip under a coat/jacket/sweater/whatever, but is not adjustable). The inner lining is very nice, 92FS are expensive pistols, keep it nice! It does rub along some unlined plastic along the retention parts inside, but that's hard to avoid, so I can forgive that. But the areas where the sides of the front normally get holster wear do hit on lining, not plastic. So that's good and will hold off wear. Overall I'm not sure there's a better 92FS paddle holster out there. I'm a picky b****rd about my holsters, I ALWAYS have some complaints, but this one I've had significantly fewer complaints than most other 92FS holsters I've tried. High quality, very worth it. EDIT: also, the retention release lever/button is body side, meaning it's hidden from view. From looking one would think it's got no retention device. That's an added security, since nobody anyone trying to take it is going to be surprised by the retention stopping them. Another very nice thing is that the plastic molding is done in a way where the safety can be used on or off. And when holstered safety off, it blocks most of the end of the safety lever so that it would be quite difficult for it to accidentally get engaged, which is important. If you train/carry safety off on a DA/SA pistol, having the safety accidentally engage can be a very bad thing.

Where do I start with this holster? What a fantastic product. I use a similar Safariland model but with type 3 retention for a service pistol which takes a beating daily and has served me well. This mode is of the same quality but without the SLS hood and shield. I decided to go with the type 2 ALS only model for my M&P 2.0 and I’m glad I did. The SLS model doesn’t really have a significant impact on your draw speed, but does add quite a bit of bulk to the holster. This model is likely as fast as a OWB/IWB holster with no retention features, but adds the peace of mind of an ALS if things go south or if you need to get physical. The customizable-angle belt retention rig makes finding that comfortable angle easy and the optional paddle (which comes pre-installed) would be a great option for range or possibly plain clothes officers. While this holster might not have the concealability of some other holsters, I’m willing to trade guaranteed retention for a slightly lower-profile option. All of the components are of high quality material, right down to the screws. One thing I would have liked to see would have been multiple tiers of angle options to allow adjustment for height of carry. Nevertheless, great product.

I did a lot of research on all different kinds of holsters and decided to go with the Safariland holster and glad I did! Man this holster was thoroughly thought out, from the locking system to the suede lining I was really amazed.... the release lever is really easy to operate with the normal motion of removing the pistol and didn't take long to get used to, simple slight movement of the thumb and its released. Will def be looking into other Safariland holsters for my other pistols as I'm not sure they cant beat design or quality wise!
