Academy Awardยฎ nominee Will Smith (Best Actor, The Pursuit of Happyness , 2006) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic, hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. When Hancock grudgingly agrees to an extreme makeover from idealistic publicist Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman, Juno ), his life and reputation rise from the ashes and all seems right again--until he meets a woman (2003 Academy Awardยฎ winner Charlize Theron, Best Actress, Monster ) with similar powers to his and the key to his secret past. Review: Best Superhero Movie I've Seen in Years! - After reading some of the other reviews, I had to add in my own two cents. I watch a lot of movies. Been watching them since I was a kid. I love superhero movies, collected every comic from Spiderman, to Superman, and Spawn. But the things this movie has over all of those, is originality, good humor, and a touching story. Marvel fans may be upset that there is no cliche Stan Lee-esque radioactivity accident, or nearly Omnipotent "last son" of a dying advanced alien civilization. Somebody didn't accidentally fall into a bunch of strange chemicals and develop super abilities. It's very possible that what made many comic book fans not like it is simply that there is no "I can be a superhero too factor" for all those nerds out there fantasizing that they can one day stumble upon a magic ring or secret experiment that will make them gods. So as not to ruin the plot for you, I'll say simply that it's a fairly original idea, and I loved it. It's even traumatic in a way and adds a certain amount of emotion to the film. All the characters were very well written and acted, and I don't understand why anyone - comic book fan or otherwise - would have a problem with it. We need more ideas for superheros, or they're all just the same. To keep this short, I'll say this. Rent it, buy it, stream it from desertcart or netflix, or buy the dvd or bluray. Don't ever take the word of a few individuals online. Some of the best movies I've ever seen were given bad ratings by bloated, under-educated people that just don't want to think during a movie. You know what opinions are like. And everyone has one. Just because a few people didn't like a movie doesn't mean it's bad. It just means that it wasn't for those few people. For that matter, don't take my word for it either. Think for yourself, but definitely give this movie a chance. You'll be glad you did. P.S. The unrated version is way better FYI. Review: Rating based of Context that is easily forgotten. - Compared to the DC and Marvel this seems lack luster, at the same time it was made as a comedic super hero parody. Marvel Studio's line starting at 2008 with Iron Man to start off The Avengers line, the previous films were all licensed through other production studios. DC Comics has an equally mixed line of production over the years, until 2005 with Batman Begins, DC was not directly involved, just permission purchases by other production companies. Hancock along with many other alternate or non-core cannon Marvel Universe movies were handled by Columbia Pictures. The X-men series were primarily handled through 20th Century Fox, just to cover all bases. That tidbit out of the way... I felt this movie was really well done, Will Smith's acting did not disappoint, the continued comedic effect was there with an underlying heavier tone that comes out over time. I would definitely define this as an Origin movie for Hancock, while no additional movies were made, had not been for the sweeping nature of The Avengers and their associated individual Hero movies, there may have very well been a Hancock 2. This was satisfying to watch in 2019 (finally) as it fell under the Radar for me when it was released for various personal reasons. I was in my 20's when Han cock released and Will Smith being an iconic actor in my childhood and young adulthood. Rating Hancock for what it is, not what it isn't, I give it a 5-star rating.

A New Take on Superman
The movie Hancock is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone. There are components of this movie that are not appropriate for young children and parents should use their discretion. With that aside, this is one of the funniest movies that I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend it because it takes a humorous approach to the Superman mythology. Here Hancock (a being with superpowers) is out of control and an alcoholic. In classic slapstick fashion Hancock creates carnage where ever he goes. Ultimately an advertising man takes him under his wing and tries to clean up his image. It is that this juncture that the hope for redemption is activated within the plot line. However there are complications because it would seem that Hancock is not the only one with super powers. It turns out that the wife of his new friend (the advertising man) also has super powers, but is attempting to remain anonymous in her upper middle class life. the complexity compounds when it turns out that the gal with superpowers was previously Hancock's significant other in a previous life (these beings are immortal). From there the conflict becomes increasingly hostile until the resolution is found that leads to the conclusion of the movie (I don't want to spoil it, so I'll defer on more details). the bottom line here is that it is a refreshing take on the Superman mythology that is squeaky clean. Here the central character may have superpowers, but also becomes much more human as a result of his addiction to alcohol in conjunction angst stemming from repressed memories of his former life with his friend and mentor's wife. This movie is very we done and I highly recommend it. It is clearly one of Will Smith's best performances.

Lost one star because my car insurance went up just watching it
If youโve ever wondered what would happen if Superman had a drinking problem, a bad attitude, and a criminal recordโHancock has you covered. Will Smith plays the worldโs grumpiest superhero who saves lives, destroys property, and still somehow makes you root for him. Heโs basically what youโd get if Iron Man skipped therapy and lived off whiskey and sarcasm. The first half of the movie had me laughing so hard I almost spilled my popcornโHancock flying drunk through billboards, getting yelled at by citizens, and launching whales back into the ocean like theyโre footballs. The second half gets surprisingly emotional, but donโt worryโitโs still got plenty of โdid he really just do that?โ moments. Charlize Theron is stunning, Jason Bateman is his usual loveable awkward self, and Will Smithโฆ well, heโs Will Smith. Even at his messiest, heโs cooler than Iโll ever be.

Peter Berg Does A Great Job With The Super Hero Redemption Of Hancock, Great Movie!
I really love this movie. A story of how a person who is stranger to himself comes to find themselves. Oh yes, that person is a superhero, kind of. I also tend to like movies directed by Peter Berg. He gets the perfect pacing and flow and little twists to make Hancock a really excellent movie. I donโt mean to discount Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman!! I think the casting is just about perfect. One of the things I like is how (especially with the features on the dvd) the movie explores the less thought about aspects of being a superhero starting with the more mundane things like what a hard landing might do to pavement or making a jump that would launch one for milesโฆ and poor Walter the whaleโฆ But I donโt want to give too much away. Ultimately itโs a story of loss and redemption. How people can help up find who we really are and find the good in all of us. How sometimes we have to let ourselves hit the bottom to find our way back up. A story of a lost past and finding the truth. A story of being alone and then discovering you arenโt. And itโs laugh out loud funny โ a lot. No surprise I think that Iโm giving Hancock 5 stars. It is one of very few movies that I come back to every year or so.

Interesting
This film is funny and awesome, the character of Hancock is cool and shows a sci-fi view to the world, it reminds a bit of the hulk in hes good but bad. It also shows that secrets are life changing no matter what or how much time has passed they still hurt. This film confused me a little at the end as the two went there separate ways i believe they could have done something more with it instead of leaving it where they did. Otherwise though it was a gripping and interesting film.

Simpatico film con Smith e la Theron in 4k
Irriverente antieroe interpretato da will smith. Film simpatico e un po`diverso dai soliti film dei superoi tutti perfettini. La qualita`del video e dell audio e`medio/alta. Un po` caro perche`il film non e` famosissimo. Se lo trovate in offerta lo consiglio sicuro.
