Yamaha DXR8MKII, 8" 1100W Powered Speaker Cabinet

I use this for small dj gigs in college. It is LOUD, and has great bass and treble that carries but is not harsh. The longevity of the speakers seems strong, I have only been using it for the last six months, but no issues thus far. I upgraded from the dbr10, which had significantly worse sound quality. This is one of the best speakers at this price point.

Love it. Perfect for using as a monitor or just a straight up speaker for synths. Crazy how loud and how much bass it packs for its size. Glad I got this one and not the larger models as I really don’t think it’s necessary for most applications. Planning on buying a second to run in stereo.

Despite the convenience of Amazon, I bought a pair of these Yamaha dxr12mkII speakers from a local music store (who gave me a better deal than anything I found online - huge thanks)! I first tried some Jbl eon712’s (which I returned due to quirky issues with their Bluetooth- cool in concept but didn’t work consistently). These Yamaha’s are flat out amazing! Not only do they get louder than the jbl’s, or any of my older passive 12” or 15” 2 ways, their sound quality stays awesome all the way up! Not joke, these literally replace 4 of my passive speakers for loudness and sound quality is better with these. (There’s with whole speaker placement / coverage aspect that more speakers still reach wider - especially outdoor venues). These have a simple setup for running a stereo pair (source a stereo signal into the left - as your facing the front grill, then run an xlr to the second one + power and voila)! This DXR series (mkII) also has the angled pole mounts (as well as standard) which allows better crowd coverage when they’re higher up. You’ve heard to not skimp on the quality of your top speakers (nor your subs), until hearing these, I didn’t understand… now I do and I can’t endorse these enough! Yamaha customer support is also excellent! You call and you get a human pretty quickly that speaks English!

Let me preface this review by saying I use a LOT of speakers for a wide range of applications. For its pricing and class (12" Point Source, powered PA), this is one of the better speakers I've used. It is on the heavier side compared to similar speakers but the sound quality makes it well worth it! Audio is crisp and clear with the perfect amount of bass to back it up. Played at higher volumes, the audio sounds well balanced and the DSP setting options are well tuned for a variety of applications (monitor use, use with a sub, bass and high boost without a sub). The reasons I deducted a star are - the speaker lacks a top handle (making it feel bulkier/harder to carry) and the lack of a second XLR input. These are minor issues but worth considering when choosing between similar products (QSC K12, RCF 912, etc.). I think this speaker shines when it comes to ease of set-up (fast, simple audio adjustments for a variety of applications) and overall sound.

I'm not sure why but there are few reviews of this model, but make no mistake, these are very good speakers. For the price you can't go wrong. Clean and powerful. Yamaha says these are not as good as the DSR units but I can't find anything to complain about. I use them for singing and backing tracks for back up. I've used cheaper ones and learned my lesson. Save your money and get the DXR15 mkII's, you won't regret it. If there are any issues down the road I'll up date this review but I doubt you'll be hearing form me Next I'd like to mention Cosmo Music. They seem like a great company. I informed them of some issues with shipping and they were back to me within the day to try and help, thanks go to Andrew. Shipping wasn't really the problem it was the weather that held things up. I couldn't find any better price anywhere with free shipping and prompt costumer service. Five Stars for Cosmo Music and Yamaha!
