All in One Mushroom Grow Bag (2 Pack)

Making grow bags is such a hassle. These are way more convenient, and grow a ton of mushrooms of whichever species. Best for things that like grass and dung. It also makes for a really strong starter if you want to grow bulk, just one bag if fully grown is enough to seed a ton of bulk substrate. Convenience and quality.

The bags are not made consistently from what I can tell as you can see in other reviews some people have great success and others run into issues with contaminant growth. I decided to roll the dice and hope I got some good bags. I inoculated both bags and quickly mycelium started growing. I kept them in between 74 and 80 degrees for the most part aside from a few hours here and there around 71 (my room temp). As an experiment, I decided to mix both bags at a different point in mycelium growth, one around 33% and one around 60% colonized. From what I found these bags are generally oversaturated. The bag that was mixed at 33% grew contaminants three days later and growth stopped, there was no visible contamination, but it started to smell sour after about 5 days of no growth. One thing I noticed was a TON of condensation in the bag the days after mixing. I have since buried it outside and am hoping for the best lol. The 60% bag is going strong, there was still a lot of condensation, but noticeably less than the other bag. It has been 5 days since mixing and it looks like it will be ready to fruit in about a week. I will update with the results at a later date. (Today is 9/21) *Update* Growth slowed significantly around 80% colonization and this bag also succumbed to sour rot, which is a bacterial growth that generally is not killed during the pasteurization process. This usually is not an issue, but when you have an excess of water the bacteria will eventually thrive. These bags are not worth the money, you are taking a gamble... *End Update* My recommendation to new growers would be to follow the BRF tek. You don't need a pressure cooker (I didn't use one and I have 24 jars all going strong almost ready to fruit!) and its newbie friendly as long as you follow proper sterilization techniques. (A closet works as a pretty good still air box if you don't wanna make one) If you aren't willing to put in the work to research how to do this properly then I really just wouldn't bother as you are very likely going to end up with a contaminant and if you're willing to do the work researching I hope you're also willing to do the work preparing things up yourself. In my experience, it's much more rewarding and you save money! :) TLDR: If you use these bags use 2-3cc of a syringe (it's already oversaturated you don't want to add more water) and wait until around 60-75% colonization of the rye layer before mixing. But IMO just don't use these.

I have ordered grow bags from the big retailers like myco-haus, midwest, Mycology supply atc and had all the standard problems. I bought 2 of these on a whim to use as backup bags in case "the good bags" didnt work. Well the "good bags" all had contamination or holes in the plastic, were oversaturated or had some kind of problem. Ended up that my "backup" bags outperformed the main ones. So now I use these entirely. Not only do I not have to wait 3 weeks to get em, they seem to be made with much better QC than other suppliers. My one and only complaint is the straw in the bag. Not that it is there, I want the straw in there, but I wish it was maybe shredded a little finer. It makes mixing the bag a little more annoying BUT - I think the dry straw acts like an absorbing media to prevent over saturation. Had plenty of other bags end up soggy and not growing anything but trichoderma. It seems like the straw helps balance out moisture levels within the bag. Wish they came in 5lb but 4lb is close enough I suppose. I am pleased with these bags and they will be my go-to for the foreseeable future

I had no trouble getting three different species of delicious mushrooms to grow in these. The mix they use seems to make them all fairly happy. The contents were properly pasteurized and I had no issues of contamination inside the bags. I did run into an issue where some of them were too dry, but I'd prefer dry to wet, because it's easy to inject distilled water and hard to remove water. I did not have success with Lion's Mane, but I do not think the bag is to blame. The main difficulty is a lack of comprehensive instructions. There is a general guide, but it fails to cover many of the vital things to know. For example, you can't use these for chanterelles, or any other mushroom that needs wood. You will also have best results if you use the bag for colonization by NOT mixing it until mycelium has spread throughout the bottom layer, and then dump out and mix the entire contents into a sterile "fruiting" environment -- a process not covered by the included instructions. The other problem is timing. The bags don't have an unlimited shelf life, so you have to order your spores to coincide with the bag arrival if possible. If the seller also stocked standard edible spore varieties, this would not be an issue. I strongly recommend reading some general mushroom growing guides before bothering to use these, because they assume you already know what you're doing. I will be buying these again when I pick some more varieties, and will post pictures next time.

First time I ordered these was great. Second time ordered 4 bags and 3 out of the 4 were contaminated. I feel like it’s cheaper to go back to sterilizing my own grain. While the spores were germinating the grain, mycelium was running strong. Then after I mixed the bags up, everything went wrong. I saw mycelium growth throughout the bag for a few days. Then it all died out and I could see contamination running throughout. Really sucks. If you like playing roulette with your money and time then this is the perfect purchase. If you have better things to do with your money then I’d say to get the all in one grow bags without the wood chips. I believe that’s the reason for the majority of the contamination breakouts.

I am not sure why these are rated so lowly - I believe it is from people that don't understand sanitation. When you get these bags, ***do not open any part of it***. Don't peel anything, don't poke anything, just get them out of the packaging and set them somewhere clean. 1. Get out a syringe that has your spores in it, and flame sterilize the tip of the needle. Make sure to wear gloves and be in a clean environment 2. Find the black silicon button on the bottom. Carefully stick your needle in, and inject 3-5ml of your syringe fluid (half of the fluid in each if you intend to use both bags) 3. Take out the needle and let the silicon self-heal itself. 4. Keep in a clean environment that isn't in direct sunlight. Keep your room warm and humid 5. Wait. Mycelium should start growing within a couple weeks. 6. Once you have your first flush, you can open the bag and harvest. Clip the bag and make sure it stays humid. You should get a couple flushes out of it. This method is fool-proof unless you get a faulty bag.

It worked well for me, first timer with absolutely no experience. I was worried about the reviews that I had read but decided to try it anyway. I tried as best I could to keep sterile, so far so good, I have NO contamination and we've just started pinning stage. I used 1/2 a spore syringe in one bag, trying to hedge my bets, so it took about 3 months from inoculation to pinning. Definitely impressed with the bag!
