Kwikset 99420-002 Aura Bluetooth Programmable Keypad Door Lock Deadbolt Featuring SmartKey Security, Venetian Bronze

I was looking to upgrade from a simple deadbolt to a keypad so that I didn't have to bring my house key while exercising on trails near my house... one less thing to carry and worry about losing. At first I was looking at wi-fi smart locks, but I was turned off a bit by the reviewers that got a shock that the lock wasn't compatible with their routers. In researching it further, it seems the lock companies have a rather small list of compatible routers/modems and if you're using something else then who knows. I'm very diligent about locking the door on my way out, and I've never encountered a situation where unlocking my condo from my phone would be necessary. I liked the Bluetooth because I can still use the app to configure settings and program the keypad codes. If you have a maid or needed to give access to a visitor, you can still configure the keypad codes to only work on certain days/times or remove them if that person shouldn't get access. I guess if you're not home and wanting to set that up, then that's where you'd want wi-fi. I also liked this model for the real buttons. Some of my neighbors have the flat, shiny keypads where the numbers light up but aren't physical buttons. Just glancing over at them as I walk by, I can see certain areas are more smudged where the corresponding number must be part of their code. Also comparing the Kwikset to neighbors with other brands, the motor is relatively loud. I live in a condo where the hallways are all inside. I don't think it's unreasonably loud, but if I'm heading out very early in the morning or coming home pretty late at night, I use the key in case the noise would disturb my neighbors (probably not necessary, but I air on the side of trying to be considerate). Setup of the electronics and using the app was easy and intuitive. Install looked easy, but I did hire a locksmith. I'm not very handy and just decided to play it safe in case I encountered a problem. Watching the locksmith screw it into place in 10 min made me wish I'd gone for it myself and saved myself the $150 locksmith fee. I've had it for about 6 weeks and used the Duracell batteries it came with. So far, the app still says it's at 100% battery. I use the motor to lock/unlock 4-6 times per day. I don't know if the app will show the battery incrementally go down or if it will just be low all of the sudden, though. It doesn't seem like it needs much energy to operate the lock. So I'm not sure what to say in response to the reviewers complaining that the batteries drain every couple weeks... that's not my experience so far. I think if your main goal is to use a keypad to lock and unlock your house and aren't worried about checking or controlling the lock remotely or demanding ultra-quiet operation, then this Bluetooth Kwikset is a great solution.

Bought this Programmable deadbolt lock to replace a similar product from another brand that fried a board after only 6 years. I have used the Kwikset smart lock feature on another house and was impressed, so thought to try it again. Installing the deadbolt and programming the new/old key was straight forward and easy when you follow the instructions provided. Now I don't have to throw all those duplicate keys out. That being said the instructions on calibrating and connecting to the keypad were lacking, and not as guiding or intuitive as I have found in other home automation products. Adding additional users was also required a bit of frustration as I had to Helen Keller around the app to get mobile phones to connect with the lock. I really couldn't tell you how I did it, but our phones are now connected and the lock operates without issue. Although it does take a while to connect when walking up to the lock to the point that you might as well punch in the combination when you get to the door. All in all I would still recommend this lock. Hopefully last longer than the last one.

Follow the instructions and it’ll work as advertised. Took only 30 minutes at most to install. The step-by-step instructions were very helpful. Love thr look, functionality, and it came with Duracell batteries so I don’t have to worry about the battery life. Great value for the money and even matches my door handle.

Have been a fan of digital front door locks since I installed one for my school age son, who frequently left his house key inside the house instead of bringing it with him to school. After ten years, the one I had was failing. I wanted a new one that could hold multiple unlock codes and was easy to set up and change. This fit the bill. I have the Kwikset app on my phone, and whenever I'm at home can add and delete codes, people, dates and times very easily. Didn't even have to read the directions; code set up is pretty intuitive. When searching for a lock replacement, I found many require an internet hub to work the device remotely. This one does not work remotely so it doesn't require a hub; you manage your door codes through the phone app when you're at home on your WiFi. At first I thought I needed remote access, but then realized I would never let someone into my home for an unscheduled visit while I wasn't there. So why pay for a feature that's not needed? Very happy with this digital front door lock. I highly recommend it if you want an easy-to-code, easy-to-use digital door lock.

Long time Kwikset user here. If by chance you're looking to compare Bluetooth to WiFi... I have both. The disadvantage of Bluetooth is it's not programmable remotely. Any programming or resetting must be done in person which can be a pain so I opted to upgrade my two for Halo Wi-Fi. What you need to be aware with those is that the Wi-Fi versions go through batteries like practically monthly. Kwikset even exchanged my pair, thinking maybe it was a bad batch, but the exact same thing happened. I've had their standard battery keypads where the unit and the batteries last forever. Bluetooth isn't too bad. But it's RIDICULOUS how much these Wi-Fi units burn through batteries. We have a wifi Schlage in our cabin which rarely requires a battery change. And that is subject to a variety of weather conditions. So if you're set on Bluetooth, you would probably be happy with this model. But, if you deciding between the two technologies and you opt for wi-fi, I would spend the extra money and get the Schlage. You'll make up any difference of cost in the amount money spent on batteries for Kwikset. Very disappointing because I do like the easy reprogramming ability of this brand.

Let me start by saying that I only bought this particular lock because 1) it was Kwikset, and I loved my old lock and 2) it was matte black. I didn't care about any of the special features, like the app or that it was Bluetooth capable. Installation was pretty straight forward. Lock was beautiful on my door. However, I could not, for the life of me, get the lock to connect to my phone. I should have been concerned over the app having barely a 2.5-star rating, but again, not why I bought the lock. I would have kept it if it has the ability to manually create codes and use the lock without the app or Bluetooth feature. I tried tech support, factory reset the lock too many times to count, and still could not get it to work. And for a while, I thought maybe it was because my internet signal at the time was poor. I sent this lock back due to it being expensive and was basically useless to me and decided not to order another one because of the app reviews and overall issues that I had found out others had or were having. Instead, I ordered an off-brand lock that is also matte black, has an app and is Bluetooth. Once installed, it connected immediately. I was able to create codes right away. My new lock isn't nearly as pretty as the Aura, but it works and that is the most important. Also, I gave the lock features one star simply because I was unable to even get that far. Perhaps if it works for you, it will end up being a fantastic, beautiful lock.

This keypad looks great and has a lot of good features. It was fairly easy to install, however it was tricky separating the "door plate" from the unit. On the other side of the door you have 3 parts. The "door plate", the electronic unit itself, and the plastic cover. It was a bit challenging to separate the door plate from the electronic unit because it is stuck on there pretty good. At first I thought you had to loosen screws to separate, but this is not the case, you just need strong fingernails or a thin screwdriver to gently separate. It comes with 4 AA's, but they are generic batteries and you will probably need to swap them out with longer lasting batteries. Keep your smart phone handy because you will want to download the app that can control the door remotely. It connected to our internet with ease as well as to our phone. You get to enter about 250 codes, which is great if you use your place as a rental. The app is super easy to use and makes it convenient. You can also program the keypad with different functions, such as auto lock or muted keypad entry. The one downside to the unit is that is it super noisy and you definitely hear it from across the room! Please note! You cannot use this unit remotely. We would’ve not purchased it had I known this. You have to be within Bluetooth range of the unit in order to control it or change the codes. Since we use our house as a vacation rental it means we can only delete codes after someone checks out if we are within range. This is a definite downside to this particular unit. Because of this I will now need to swap it out. I wish I would’ve known this before we put the expense into buying this unit.

Vi comentarios de que la app no funcionaba en México y comencé a preocuparme pero cuando llegó no batallamos nada con el enlace de la app. La instalación fue muy sencilla, incluso intuitiva, no tuvimos que leer instrucciones o buscar más información en línea (que incluso si fuera necesaria al descargar la app viene un video de cada paso para la instalación). El emparejamiento bluetooth se hizo en menos de 2 min y ahora siempre puedo observar el resumen de las entradas y salidas (tanto manuales como las realizadas de manera remota). He quedado encantada, la recomiendo ampliamente.

Lo puedes controlar desde la aplicación (funciona por Bluetooth así que debes estar cerca) pero si quieres olvidarte de cargar llaves o recordar dónde las dejaste, este producto es ideal.
