They are extremely weatherproof, have outstanding connectors if you need to add more cables (I had to order an extra, I underestimated how much length would be used up by twisting around the rail).I recommend these for sure. There are fancier ones out there (multiple color choices on one strand, blinking lights, patterns, etc.) so if you're looking for something like that I'd say shop around a bit. But if you want a basic weatherproof rope light that can be extended, these are great. Very bright, and a nice deep blue. I used two cords on railing that covers three sides of a 5' x 12' balcony. I used small zip ties to fasten securely in place.
