Has anyone used this saw for pinewood derby cars? Is it powerful enough?

I am a professional scroll saw artist have been using a DeWalt for 20 years yes this would be an excellent saw for cutting out pinewood derby cars a bit pricey you could do the same with a lesser price to scroll saw but yes it would definitely cut out a pinewood derby car with no issues

How thick of a hardwood piece can this cut with ease?

I routinely have cut hard maple that is 1 1/2 " thick often ....believe you can go a bit over 2" as long as you remove or slide the guard up to give clearance. Blade type and tooth number should be matched according to blade manufacturers recommendations. Go slow and don't force the blade. Keep tension tight to prevent pinching blade and breaking them. You may need to replace the blades more often and also using products designed to go on blade to reduce friction help. Just putting clear box tape on top of the article helps too.....the plastic seems to lube the blade.

can it cut 16 gauge brass

Though I have never cut metal with mine, I do have blades made for cutting metal. Pegas and Flying Dutchman both make a wide assortment of quality blades for cutting metal on a scrollsaw.

Does this saw come with the stand?

no stand comes with the saw check out harbor freight thats where i purchased my stand and light for about $75which work very well but i did have to use a 2x12 board to mount to the stand.
