Serious Heat Output
Using this item at a recent event where a hot holiday punch was made yielded excellent results. A test of the heating capacity prior to the event showed an ability of the hot plate to bring 2 quarts (1/2 gal) of cold water to a boil in 12 minutes. Note that the geometry of the boiling vessel was in part coefficient to this heat absorbtion producing that boiling time. The pot used for the test was a 3 qt All-Clad sauce-pan with a bottom diameter of 8 inches, which centered the liquid column more directly over the heating surface, whereas in the actual-use scenario, a slightly wider and thinner-walled stock pot at 10 inches diameter allowed for a larger volume of unconvected liquid around the perimeter, which resulted in a slightly longer boil time of about 15 min. This item would be well suited to remote cooking and warming tasks, and would suffice for certain tableside-show desserts like Bananas Foster, with the added safety of a non-flame heat source.

Owned for 1.5 years
I bought this in Sept of 2020, and thought I would use it awhile before writing a review. I bought this to use until I could save money to buy a new stove, because mine died. I realized that I could use this for my cooking needs, so I haven’t bought a new stove yet. I use my burner every day. After 1.5 years, it still works great. I am careful to dry the bottoms of my pots and pans though, because a wet pan will rust the burner. However, the burner plate is made of a thick enough material, that the rust just wipes off with no damage to the burner. Not pushing it though. But having to be careful because of the potential to rust is why I gave 4 stars. Other than that, it works great still.

Love It!
I have owned several hotplates and this is, by far, the best one I have used. Yes, it does take a bit for it to warm up. But after that, watch out--because this hot plate does just that--it gets very, very hot. I mostly cook between the 1-3. Save the higher numbers for things like boiling water. This is not made cheaply. It has some weight to it. And it is designed to easily wipe clean. The only negatives: The plate itself takes some time to cool down, so be careful. It's not always easy to tell if the unit is shut off, so always double check. All in all, this is a beauty. I hope it lasts a very long time! P.S. I use it every day, sometimes twice a day.

Changed Review to "excellent buy"
Updated Review Oct 5th 2021. I have had this hotplate for almost 8 months. And I must after lots of usage change my review to a "must buy" dispute is small size It can do a big job. I've used it for pasta & potatoes & frying. It cycles on and off yes but it keeps the water at a constant boil at its max setting of 6. To be fair the plates is slightly smaller in size and it does have the two prong cord. But I feel after so much reliable use it's worth the "must buy" title.

Not good for low temp cooking
This Hot plate is just that HOT. Has plenty of power to boil water or run a wok but forget cooking eggs, simmering, using a stove top expresso machine or anything that requires a lower settings. Used a Fluke infrared thermometer and here are the settings. low=150°, 1=375° 2=550° 3=650° 4=780° 5=820° 6=820° Depending on your intended use it might be good. The handles never did get hot so that is a plus too.
