Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs : The Definitive Pop-Up

Utterly GORGEOUS, modernesque dinosaurs literally leap off the pages of this beautifully and intricately composed book. I’ve never wanted to shake the hand of a children’s book author before, but I just may seek these people out to express gratitude and awe at what was accomplished here. We received this only today, but I couldn’t help but make a video for all of you who may be hesitant to spend nearly $30 (depending on current pricing) on a book — it is worth every single penny and more! The size is smaller than I expected but I didn’t read description very well after seeing the pop-ups! As you can see, the main pop-up featured dinos are surrounded by complementary artwork. Some of the sidebars even have two pages to them, just adding to my amazement of how well this book is composed. Each animal is properly labeled with correct spelling and the text gives a brief but thorough description. All of my kids were amazed by this book, and they range in age from 17 years to 20 months. The squeals elicited from my baby boys upon seeing their favorite “T-Wex” and “Bakkasaurus” was heartwarming to say the least. I had to stop them from giving the T-Rex a drink (because duh, Mom, he’s red so he’s hot) and serving the raptors their chicken nuggets, but it’s all worth the giggles and smiles! I typically write long, drawn-out reviews highlighting “pros” and “cons,” but for once, I am nearly speechless. Just look at the photos and video and you’ll see why. This is not to be handled by little ones, obviously, but the other pop-ups we have don’t hold a candle to this one. It is both educational and beautiful, and will be a book passed on for generations I’m sure. Highly, loftily, even aggressively recommended!! 😁 *I feel I should add that there was no compensation, discount, or request for a review. Of the thousands of items I’ve purchased on Amazon for my babies this is, hands-down, #1 with zero bias. I hope this was helpful, even with all the gushing!

Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Dinosaurs is hands-down one of the best books we’ve ever added to our home library. My 4-year-old son absolutely loves it every time he opens it, his whole face lights up. The pop-up dinosaurs are so detailed, colorful, and surprising that even we as parents get excited turning each page! The book is sturdy, beautifully made, and full of fun facts that are easy for little kids to understand but still interesting for adults. It keeps my son engaged for a long time, and we enjoy reading and exploring it together. It's the perfect mix of learning and entertainment. If you have a dinosaur-loving child, or if you just want a book that brings the whole family together, this one is truly amazing. We love it! 🦖💚

I bought this book as a birthday present for my grandson, who recently turned 4 and has become fascinated with dinosaurs. This book is one of those rare purchases that greatly exceeded my expectations. The pop-ups have intricate, variegated details. A substantial feat of paper engineering. There are 6 major pop-up scenes; each major scene comprises two pages. When you open a set of pages, a dinosaur automatically unfolds and pops up. When you close the set of pages, the dinosaur automatically folds. But you may need to nudge some features into place for the dinosaur to fold flat without damage. Exercise caution in opening and closing scenes. There are an additional 26 smaller scenes. Some scenes are nested together; and some scenes have more than one dinosaur. The thinner scenes are opened simply by lifting the cover page. For the thicker scenes, one corner of the cover page is tucked into a triangular holder to secure the cover page. You need to carefully pull the corner out of the holder to open the cover page. When you’re done, you need to carefully re-insert the corner into the holder. According to the publisher, the recommended age range is 5 – 9. Since the pop-ups are easily damaged, and opening and closing the pop-ups require reasonable care, I would not recommend handing this book to younger kids without supervision. Also, the text is not dumbed down: it contains difficult vocabulary and advanced grammar. My young grandson loves the book. I caution him to be careful handling the pop-ups. E.g., I stick my finger into open jaws and he closes the jaws gently. Many parts can move some. The text is too advanced for me to read it verbatim to him; so I simplify it or make up my own descriptions. He has a fun time learning to pronounce complex names such as Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Protoceratops, …. Many of them I have never heard of before; so a fun, educational read for me as well. This is a book that he finds entertaining now (with adult supervision) and will find educational (on his own) in the years to come.

The original design of this book is extraordinary and my young niece loves it. It's informative, stunningly colored with beautiful drawings. She's actually a little bit young for this fragile book, but her mother is a reader and encourages her to interact with books so I'm sure it will be safely kept and enjoyed for many years. In fact, that is my only criticism of this book; it is extremely fragile and some of the popups are not easy to refold properly.

This is a seriously cool pop-up book! The whole family enjoys looking at it together and it’s quite a large book- great for a dinosaur loving kid!!

A fantastic book. For a older child at least 4 or 5 and above. Sturdy but not for grabbing hands. Pop ups are numerous and very well done. Would buy again.

I bought this dinosaur drop-out book as a gift for a 6-year-old boy and it was a success. From the moment he opened the first page he was fascinated with the emerging figures. 3D dinosaurs are colorful, detailed and make reading much more fun and interactive. Their content is educational with interesting facts about different species of dinosaurs. I liked that it combines learning and fun, something that helps keep children's attention longer than a traditional book. The quality of the pages and the pop-up mechanisms is good. You have to handle them carefully, like any pop-up book, but they feel well designed and visually impressive. Each page offers a different surprise that invites you to continue exploring. It is an excellent option for children who love dinosaurs or for those looking for an educational and different gift.Without a doubt, a very striking book that manages to turn reading into an adventure. Highly recommended.

Loved this book! The art by itself is beautiful and all the pop ups are very well constructed. And they are everywhere! It is the gift that keeps on giving. On the more “book” side, it is a very entertaining read. It narrates a complete overview of all the history of dinosaurs and the different stages so you learn quite a lot. 10/10 would recommend!

I ordered this as it looked brilliant from the description and pictures. I have to say that when it arrived I was not disappointed. In fact it exceeded my expectations with multiple pop-outs on each page with little narratives on the evolution of dinosaurs. Its a little old for my 3 YO however he was still blown away by the pop-outs. I have bought the other 3 in the series and if they release more I will buy these as well. Excellent books.

I bought for my 4 year old grandson who is obsessed with dinosaurs Gave it to him this morning and he just loved it He had to take home so daddy can read it to him Just an awesome idea wary of 4 year old looking at it but as long as he gets enjoyment I’m happy He especially loved TRex

Stunning! Exceeded expectations. I would recommend that younger children handle it under supervision - I can see why other reviewers would call it fragile. However, I am satisfied with my purchase - my niece is going to love it!
