Thanks to a visit from Grandmother Aggie (Debbie Reynolds), Marnie (Kimberly J. Brown) and her family's tradition of ignoring the Halloween holiday are about to change in the extreme. It seems that Marnie's mother Gwen (Judith Hoag) has been hiding a big secret from her three children--all of them possess supernatural powers. Now that it's Marnie's thirteenth birthday, she must begin her training as a witch or lose her powers forever. While Gwen wants nothing more than to see her children grow up as "normal" humans, Grandmother Aggie and Marnie have other ideas. A brewing crisis between good and evil in the alternate world Halloweentown soon pulls the entire family through a portal and into an intense battle against ghouls, goblins and the warlock Kalabar (Robin Thomas). Halloweentown II takes place two years after Halloweentown and finds Kalabar's son bent on revenge. Marnie has matured as a witch, but her powers are pushed to the limit in a desperate effort to triumph over an evil curse in order to save Halloweentown, her family and the human world. This is good Disney Halloween fun with nice costuming and special effects, a wholesome message about the power of family, cooperation and perseverance, and ghouls that, though creepy looking, aren't likely to inspire nightmares in younger family members. Two fun Halloween movies, perfect for family viewing
My daughter, who is almost nine years old, loves the Halloweentown movies in this DVD set. She watched both films last year (we checked out the DVDs from the library) and loved them so much I decided we would get them for our home DVD collection. This double feature is value for money at the price retailing here on Amazon, and includes both Halloweentown and Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge. The set only contains one disc which contains both movies and bonus features titled "The Magic of the Halloweentown Movies" (a behind the scenes peek at Halloweentown, Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge, and Halloweentown High), and "Twitches" (where twins Tia and Tamera Mowry from "Sister, Sister" chat about their Disney Channel Original Movie, "Twitches". The story centers around a young girl, Marnie (Kimberley J. Brown) who on her 13th birthday, discovers she is descended from a line of witches including her eccentric grandmother Aggie (Debbie Reynolds). Grrandma brings her through a secret portal to Halloweentown, a place where ghosts, ghouls, witches, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures live in a world set apart from the world of the humans. Before long, Marnie and her grandmother as well as a group of friends find themselves battling the powers of darkness, led by an evil warlock named Kalabar. In the second installment, Kalabar's son returns to seek vengeance and his target is Marnie, her family, and the rest of the citizens of Halloweentown. Halloweentown's running time is approx. 84 minutes (color) and Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge runs approx. 81 minutes (in color). There is no subtitle option on both movies. This is family friendly viewing but due to some scary images of supernatural creatures, I would recommend the viewing age be at least 7 and up.

Can't go wrong always a good buy.

Bought it, when I finally got it because shipping took ages. Both disks don't work because of some code isn't working or matching. So why let me buy it when I can't even enjoy it. I also couldn't get in contact to return and or get a refund or send a new one that actually does work with my dvd blueray player. Double trouble olden twin dvd, can't watch it.

Halloweentown Double Feature Is Magical! I own the entire collection on DVD! I watch them every Halloween on the tv and now that I have them on DVD, I watch them every day of the year! On her 13th birthday, Marnie is told that she is a witch, DISCOVERS a portal and is brought to HALLOWEENTOWN - a magical place where all magical creatures live apart from the mortal world. Marnie always knew she was destined for somthing great, but never thought she would be battling evil warlocks! All four films are a delight and are available from Amazon. The Collection includes: Halloweentown (1998) 5/5 Halloweentown 2 Kalabars Revenge (2001) 4/5 Halloweentown High (2004) 5/5 Return To Halloweentown (2006) 3/5 And Halloweentown 5: Shes The Witch is rumoured to premire on Disney Channel Oct. 24th 2010!-$

This is by far the best (non-scary) Halloween movie of all time. I have watched it every year since I was a kid. Now that I no longer have cable services, I decided I would purchase a hard copy of it and Amazon just so happened to have the best price on this fantastic DVD set. Both movies are on the one disc so it works out in terms of convenience.
