Drill America - DWT57129 1/4"-20 High Speed Steel 2 Flute Spiral Point Tap, DWT Series

originally bought the Dewalt package, which is really, really hard steel & it snapped in the hole. Now this is a really small screw in a lawnmower, holding the transformer in place that sparks the spark plug as the magnets float by, so I couldn't go bigger. Used a grinder to make an [X] on top center of hole & titanium impact bits from Harbor Freight to cut the initial hole & break bit. The larger grooves & some PB blaster, allowed the metals to collect as I turned the new tap, so I could screw unscrew, blow out/wipe & repeat, until the hole was clear for a new screw to go in. Dewalt's pack, just didn't have deep enough grooves for the metals & snapped when I was unscrewing, which was likely my fault. But this bit allowed me to go deeper, so it was quicker & a better choice for my project.

This Drill America 1/4"-28 HSS tap/drill exceeded expectations. The cutting edges were sharp out of the box and produced clean, consistent threads without chatter or binding. The steel feels high quality, held its edge well, and showed no signs of wear after use. Easy to work with and very durable compared to cheaper alternatives. Overall, this feels like a professional-grade tool at a fair price. Would confidently buy again.

I am a machinist and I know what the small taps can take. The tip broke very easily but then I was able to grind the end flat and then it still cut threads

Great product. Exactly what I needed to fix a tough repair. Durable and tough, works great. Love the 3 flute design way stronger than others, cuts clean lasts longer!!

I have been a machinist for over 20 years and this works fine on most mild steels and aluminum. always use a spiral point plug tap for through holes.

Broke on the tip in three turns tapping cast iron, absolute junk! Do not use on anything harder than A36 as this is a low quality HSS

Goes through aluminum and brass quickly and straight.

The tap does its job, which is cutting threads. I've only tapped 2 holes with it and seems to have held up fine, no visible wear. Good enough for the price. Have definitely used better quality taps.

The taps with the end sharpened like this are my favorite.

This was one of the best taps I've ever used. I own a small business and needed some taps to manufacture some parts. I decided to get some new taps because the mastercraft I had were not threading very nicely. The three flutes and high quality build made it a breeze to tap around 80 holes. Well worth the price and I will definitely get more drill america taps in the future.
