Review: Excellent for beginners. - I am working on learning my 5th language. I learn a language to get to a point where I am conversant, not necessarily fluent. I have a routine that works for me and this book worked perfect with my routine. When I first learn a language I start off by learning the 2000 most commonly used words. Every morning I study the vocabulary for at least an hour. I don't worry about pronunciation yet. After I have a good grasp of the words I move on to listening skills I start to listen to podcast or watch documentaries (documentaries are nice because they speak correctly and not to fast) in the target language. I find that by month 3 I am able to grasp 75-80% of what I listening to with out the use of captions, and by the seventh month I find myself conversant in the language. Not fluent, but conversant enough where I understand what is said and can communicate my idea with out the use of google translator. This is a good book to develop you core vocabulary. Review: Great Resource 2000 Most Common Words - come Learn , join in on the fun Grab the Audio version to learn the pronunciation while you build your vocabulary. Built in Bonus, while there are 2000 specific words, there is tons more the narratives include everyday conversations Enjoy

Pretty good for vocabulary building
This book centers on building a base vocabulary of common words. The vocabulary words used are pretty common. Now that I have finished the book I wouldn't say I can fully read and understand a book or movie yet, but I have a better understanding of what is going on. I'll definitely be rereading this a few times to memorize the vocabulary words. My only complaint is the English translation sentences are sometimes poorly written and I don't know Italian well enough to criticize that part. I have to assume the base words are still correct though. *I got this for free on Amazon. The publisher told me it was free and asked me to write a review.

Great for grasping fundamentals
Syntax, grammar and the dreaded romance language verb conjugations always keep me from pushing further in my Italian language studies. My wife—who is also studying Italian—has said to me a few times to just start with expanding my vocabulary. It may not teach you the rules, but it helps you get the feel for the language and the more you read, the more you start to recognise patterns too. The book is laid out by using a word in context with the English translation below. I cover up the translation and try translate the sentence my self. And while there are a LOT of nouns that go over my head, by the hundredth word I've made significant progress. When moving over to the deeper learning, having seen all these words and understanding their meanings—especially the verbs—it's sure to help significantly. Thanks for the great book!

Excellent Italian vocabulary book for all levels
I have been learning Italian for 6 years but have plateaued for the last few of them. "2000 Most Common Italian Words in Context" is for me, at an intermediate level, a great source of revision and in fact I was a little surprised and alarmed that I didn't know every word listed. The format is a well-thought out one. The vocabulary words are listed in order and each word is then used in a sentence so you are constantly reminded of sentence structure and of course there is other vocabulary used in each sentence. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who is a student of Italian and I am confident that by spending 10 or 15 minutes each day going through it, my interest in Italian will increase once again and the improvement will give me more confidence to speak the language on my annual trips to Italy.

Good for beginners but beyond that not worth it
If you don't know any Italian at all this book will teach you new words and how to use them. However, I did not like that it counts each conjugation of a verb individually as part of the 2000 words. Ex) I go, I would go, I will go, to go are listed as 4 separate words. I understand why the book did this but it severely limits the amount of words included before reaching 2000 as there are many many many conjugations for each verb. I bought the book to help me be able to read fiction in Italian as I find myself constantly looking up words in the dictionary but already knew all but 20 words from the book... it didn't help me but I do believe the book could be helpful to someone else. If you are a beginner I would recommend but beyond that it may not be that useful.

Helpful for an intermediate learner
I took up Italian just under two years ago, and I spend two or three hours a day on Duolingo. I first finished the last round of the Duolingo Italian course a year or so ago and run through each of the 68 topics in the Duolingo practice list for Italian between two times and seven times per week. I went through this book writing down words I hadn’t encountered in Duolingo or elsewhere and ended up with over 200 that I hadn’t actually known. So I think it’s a very solid vocabulary builder, and it certainly convinced me want to sample another book in the series.

My brand new copy is 1864 words, not 2000 (missing 24 pages).
I guess there was a mishap at the company that handled the printing, because my copy isn't 2000 words. As soon as you open the cover, there's word #137, right there, with the very first page being page 25. No title pages, no publisher info, no intro, no nothing. The book is just flat-out missing the first 24 pages. Apart from that very serious flaw, the book is sort of OK but it could be tons better. In some instances the translations aren't exact, and specific verb tenses are strangely presented as words in some cases. Also, the way the translation is laid out on the page for each entry does a disservice to the reader, because there's no easy way to obscure the translation so you can test yourself. Instead it's a sentence of Italian immediately followed by the English translation on the next line, so your eyes can't avoid immediately seeing the translation. Also, there's no particular order or organization to the words presented. I'm on the fence about a return... I've never encountered a book that was missing pages like this before. Bizarre.

The layout of this book is well done. You can choose to focus on a subject such as travel, personal hygiene, animals, adjectives etc.. or spend a bit of time each day. It is a good learning resource.

Wonderful Resource
Another wonderful resource from Lingo Mastery. I have been using DuoLingo and whilst the application is useful and entertaining at learning the language, 2000 Most Common Italian Words in Context, is filling in some blanks. Learning a new language can be overwhelming. This books breaks down useful words, conjugated, in easy to read and understand sentences. Sample sentences in English and Italian highlight the word. I can browse the book and learn. I can also study with other resources and use this as further explanation. I have three language sources from Lingo Mastery. Highly recommended.
