Hoan The Original Bagel Guillotine Universal Slicer, 9.25-Inch, Red

I bought this fine piece of kitchenware as a present to my boyfriends two little sisters. We bonded while he was at work by watching season after season of The O.C., and I saw how they drooled over the genius that is the bagel slicer. I did a lot of research, because I am 7 out of 10 poor, and this seemed to be not only cheap, but have good reviews from various websites. It arrived promptly in a nice box, ready for me to wrap up for Christmas! Appearance: pretty scary. I worry I might be held responsible if someone loses a finger, but actually it has a huge perspex-looking screen that covers the blade so don't worry about trapping any body part (eek) in there! Slick looking on the kitchen top! Doesn't look either cheap or pretentious, very nice design. Bagel slicing: If the bagel is slightly too thin it slops to the side and gives you an uneven cut. It does always (pretty much) leave a nice clean cut, but not always on target. PRECISE but not ACCURATE (if there's anyone out there with a GCSE in biology, they'll know the difference) Does make you feel like you're in the O.C. Cleaning: I don't think it's ever been cleaned to be quite honest. But the crumbs can just be tipped into the bin. Pros: No harassment of trying to cut bagels with a knife! Very quick and easy. Makes you feel like you're on the O.C. Feels safe - though don't necessarily give this as a Christening present... Cons: You're not really on the O.C. The perspex screen automatically strikes this off as a torture device - sorry ladies, he may have cheated on you, but his 'littleman' won't fit into this. Doesn't always cut accurately I would recommend this to anyone. I have given it five stars because due to the differing size of today's bagels, I can't see how it would be possible to have any bagel slicer that does fit all bagels enough that they won't slide around and be cut unevenly, sometimes. After nicking my finger despite taking extreme care in cutting a bagel myself, not to mention getting fed up with the crumbs left by manually cutting a bagel, I thought I'm going to finally invest in a bagel slicer and I'm so glad I did. Not only is this super easy to use, but it doesn't squash your bagel like cutting with a knife can, and it makes really clean cuts so it doesn't leave loads of crumbs on your countertop and leads to a more even toasting of your bagel. It does what it's designed to do and it does it well!

Looks good, does the job perfectly - arrived early just before Christmas which was a big bonus. What more can you say, it cuts bagels in half !

I just love this piece of kit, I first saw one in a hostel in Seattle, and could see straight away just how perfect and functional this piece of kit was. When I had a friend staying who liked bagels, I just had to get one OK they are Quite Expensive, but look past that this is one piece of Kit you will love to have in your kitchen. Worked really well but you must ensure that you position the bagel correctly or it will cut it badly, also, once it blunts you have to throw it out as you cannot disassemble and sharpen the blade so that was a bit disappointing.

I've been wanting one of these for ages but kept putting it off because I thought it would turn out to be gimmicky and a waste of money. In fact, it's brilliant. I'm so pleased I finally bought it. I use it every day, and I just wish I'd bought it months ago!

It's the best gadget ever! Very difficult to source in UK but the US seller was prompt and courteous, and supplied it at a great price. Would highly recommend both the product and the seller.

Wer regelmäßig Bagels isst, kennt das Problem: schiefe Schnitte, gequetschte Teiglinge oder im schlimmsten Fall geschnittene Finger. Mit diesem kleinen Küchenhelfer gehört das alles der Vergangenheit an. Zurück in Deutschland haben wir das Gerät sofort vermisst – also haben wir es kurzerhand hier nachgekauft. Und was soll ich sagen? Jedes Mal, wenn wir damit einen Bagel halbieren, fühlen wir uns ein bisschen wie zurück in einem amerikanischen Diner. Die Bedienung ist kinderleicht und absolut sicher: Bagel rein, Hebel runter, fertig. Die Klinge ist scharf genug für einen sauberen, glatten Schnitt – ganz ohne Druck oder Kraftaufwand. Und das Beste: Er funktioniert auch prima für Brötchen oder kleine Brote. Für uns ein Must-have für alle, die regelmäßig Bagels essen oder einfach gerne praktische Küchenhelfer mit amerikanischem Charme mögen.

This works well and should be considered an essential safety device in the kitchen - if you use only a knife the chances are good that you will eventually cut yourself. If you buy bagels in large amounts - such as shipped in from Montreal - it makes packing and freezing them very easy. However, after 6 months' use one of the bottom nut/bolt assemblies fell out. This can be easily re-assembled but to tighten it, and the others, you will need a Philips head screwdriver of the right size and a small flat head screwdriver slid into the small space on one of the nut's flat edges to prevent the nut from moving as you tighten the bolt.

My wife has a bagel most mornings for breakfast and always struggled to cut the bagel in even halves. This guillotine is awesome for slicing bagels that are not pre-cut. Cuts very easily and does a good job of making even halves for toasting.

All Pros for me! I debated over so many different types of bagel slicers from all different styles and prices. I wanted one that was easy to grip, sturdy, and simple to store on my tiny kitchen counter. I don't have enough drawers to store it flat, and my cupboards are full to the brim. I knew I would use it almost every day and I chose the red one to add color to my countertop. This style has one blade that is permanently installed so it needed to be the best one I could buy that would do the job the first time, every time, and absolutely safe to use with little effort. I am delighted with it and can recommend it for all adults. Older Teens that can handle knives safely, will appreciate it. I never buy fresh bagels! I actually prefer them when they aren't squishy soft bread used for sandwiches, and I use a toaster oven, not a 2 or 4 slice type toaster after I slice them. Works great on week old bagels and I like saving money because the store gives huge discounts on them! I've even kept the bagel package frozen (inside a freezer safe bag) and when I want just one, allow it to thaw, pop it in my Black and Decker toaster oven for 30 seconds to remove any dampness and use the slicer. Works fine! Personally, thick bagel are nearly impossible for me to cut with serrated or bread knives because of arthritis in my hands and fingers. Well worth the extra cost and no pain! Cons: If you ONLY like the fresh, huge fat bagels that won't fit in a typical toaster, don't buy this! Negative reviews appear to be from people that only prefer that kind. Avoid sticky buns/bagels that are coated with sugar, I wouldn't recommend using ANY bagel slicer or standard toasters for those! If you prefer that kind please DON'T buy this because this bagel slicer is not meant for them and you would likely be very unhappy.
