The lens out of the box feels high quality, much more than the standard Sony EF lenses, not the G or GM. The lens has a nice “heavy” metal body and smooth focal ring that feels great. The packaging surprisingly was great. The lens itself creates quite stunning pictures for its price. The clarity of it is better than expected and performs well. Has a usbc input for updating the firmware/software as your camera updates. Over all so far the lens was a great purchase. The AF on my Sony A7iv works flawlessly out of the box and is fast focus speed. Overall a good buy for a intro level good lens for your professional camera.

Excellent Image Quality and Great Value for the Price

I just love bokeh and I love this lens. Plenty of extra functionality and whatever, and it feels amazing, but the background blur looks incredible, and so sharp too. If I never needed a wide angle lens, id probably just use this guy. A portrait LEGEND. Its a little big, but it just looks so good.

Lens came in broken it kept focusing and blurring out, it was not functioning properly at all. Unfortunately had to return. The package is stuck somewhere it kept returning back and forth between last Vegas and Visalia, can and been stuck there since dec. 29th. I want my money back!!!!

Not sure how the hell Viltrox pulled this off, but they created a real gem with this lens. It's seemingly well made, being mostly metal (as far as I can tell) and quite substantial feeling. It's also quite heavy, but not enough to make an A7-series body feel unbalanced. AF is fast, generally quite accurate, and quiet. It does tend to hunt a bit in lower light situations, especially when stopped down a bit, but it's not a huge issue in most cases. Image quality is a lot better than I had expected, especially in terms of sharpness in the center of the frame. Wide open, it's acceptably sharp...but stopped down to f/2.8 it really gets super-sharp. Even f/2.2 is noticeably improved over f/1.8. Color rendition looks fine to me, but I don't pay a lot of attention to that sort of thing. Vignetting is noticeable up to about f/4 (or maybe 5.6), but it is not egregious and is easily corrected in post processing. Chromatic aberration is surprisingly well controlled, even at maximum aperture. I bought this instead of the Sony 85mm, and I'm damn glad I did.

Amazing lens. It has stayed on my A7CR since I bought it. A little bit heavy, but image quality is simply superb for portrait (a little short at minimum focusing distance wide open). I never felt I need to lower the aperture for image quality reasons.

Incredible lens! Autofocus is not that fast, still it's not a problem for a portrait lens.

Nice build quality (but heavy!). Feels like there is a lot of value here when it works properly. Image quality is very good wide open at f1.4. Unfortunately, I was not able to get any of my 3 computers to recognize this lens and I'm unable to update the firmware. Autofocus regularly struggles, and makes a noticeable noise when trying to focus. I was hoping that firmware would be able to fix this but its impossible to update. Autofocus motor is magnetized, and you can hear/feel it move around inside the lens when the camera is off. This is normal, but feels a bit weird when carrying it around on a strap. Unfortunately have to return this one .

Its an amazing lens for Sony E-mount cameras, especially for portrait photography. The autofocus is fast and accurate, and the background blur looks smooth and professional. The images come out sharp even in low light thanks to the wide F1.8 aperture. It feels well-built yet lightweight to carry around. A great affordable alternative to more expensive lenses!

Lente muito boa, tem ótima nitidez, contrastes finos e elegantes, deixa um lindo desfoque de fundo, só peca um pouco na perca do foco continuo mas dá pra passa despercebido. Em fim por em quanto valeu a pena, vamos ver daqui a alguns meses ou anos.

I received the lens after 10 days of order. The pack was perfectly sealed and protected. Yet, the lens cap jammed onto the lens chassis in front. It was but a hassle to get it off after sometime of push & pull techniques. Build quality is superb. All metal and sturdy. It’s on a bit heavier side compared to Sony’s 50mm or 85mm. But can live with it. Image quality is awesome and I can’t complain anything about it. Portraits looks awesome. I am not a professional though the images I get from my AIII using this lens looks very flattering. Bokeh it produces is very eye pleasing. Auto focus is smooth but not super fast. Expect a bit lag. Overall a better lens at affordable price. I suggest buy this lens with camera body instead of other kit lenses. You can use this one lens for most of the purposes.
