Merrell Men's Moab 2 GtxHiking Shoe

I've had these shoes for about 3 weeks now and my early impressions are very good. They are lightweight, with just enough give in the sole to make them comfortable for walking on pavements and unpaved pathways. They are less flexible than a trainer-style shoe but are lighter than a typical walking shoe/boot, IMO. So far, my feet have remained dry in light rain and across wet grass. I am a narrow size 10 fit. I chose the standard 10 size. The fit is near perfect for me, although i wouldn't want them any smaller. If in doubt, I would do as others have suggested and purchase in the larger size, and wear with insoles or thick socks. They were a bargain for just under £60 and I'm very pleased with my purchase so far.

These hiking shoes are so good, I purchased another pair when I wore my last ones out. I use mine largely for dog walking and whenever I go anywhere too muddy for trainers. They get used every day in all weather. Water proofing and breathability works well. My feet always stay dry and comfortable in these. In winter, I wear thicker socks so I find going one size up to usual works well for me. These shoes get around 5km of wear daily in all elements with me. My last pair lasted well over a year. They were still functional, but looking a bit shabby by then. Grip was still fine but the many brambles and bits I end up wading through in the woods had taken a toll to the outside. My fault, not the shoes! Give them a go and I think you’ll approve too.

Bought these for walking the dog so wanted something lightweight, waterproof and comfortable. For me these run small, I'm a 10 and a 10.5 fits perfect (with normal socks). I think the underfoot cushioning could be improved, feels good until you walk on the pavement then it feels a bit hard. I've replaced the inner soles with better cushioning ones. They seemed to grip well on wet surfaces but have not come down a mountain side with wet rock underfoot. Waterproofing wise they coped walking through small streams on the beach but obviously would need more exposure to comment on their true effectiveness. I could have given them 3 stars but with even with their short comings i actually like them (and they look good) so 4 stars it is.

Bought for my husband after buying for my son in law for Christmas. He swears by them, especially when he’s walking the dog. He had had them now for over 12 months and wears them every day for that purpose. They are still going well but not sure how long they will last. They were well made and looked very sturdy when new, although they are a bit close fitting as compared to others in his size. I would buy them again if they came in a wide fit.

I am a long time 'Merrell fan' that always chooses Merrell's that have the vibram soul, as historically it's the soul in footwear that usually lets me down. Size wise, I know this fits me, as I tried it on in a shop on the high street. I have a broader foot, so Merrell's have always suited me in this area too. It sounds silly, bit unfortunately, sizing really only is a guide today, as depending on the manufacturer, I take shoes sized from 10 - 12, so, don't make assumptions, unless you specifically know the manufacturer and model of shoe you are purchasing. I purchased these for a recent trip to Iceland, and together with some reasonably thick woollen socks, they were perfect, with the added knowledge that should it rain or snow, the Gore-Tex lining would keep my feet dry. The Gore-Tex wasn't put to the test on this occasion, so that will have to wait for another time on these particular pair of shoes. As with all 'big name' manufacturers these days, one always has to stay alert. Long time fans and die hard users of many well known and often expensive brands are reporting the same thing - deteriorating quality and longevity ! (This usually, but not always, coincidences with a change of manufacturing facility/process or country that goes hand in hand with the deteriorating product?) I tend to purchase several pairs of Merrell's each few years, one pair for more better, casual going out (which lasts me for many years), one pair for the regular walking, every day out and about I do, and believe me, I live in them and wear them to the maximum. (I believe if buying a quality pair of shoes, they should be lasting more than 12 months !) I basically then tend to wear them until they get relegated to garden duties, then the bin. Having experienced both the non Gore-Tex and Gore-Tex version's over the years, I now just stick to the Gore-Tex versions, as it doesn't take much of a shower or very long in some wet grass, for the non Gore-Tex versions to soak through, but that's just my preference and opinion. Until my experience says differently, I am sticking with Merrell's. I hope this review has been of some help?

MOAB or mother of all boots? Not really. These are shoes, not boots. So they are waterproof. I walk through mud, puddles and in rain and they keep my feet dry. But water can ingress over the tops and waterproof is not 100% watertight. They are breathable, supple and very comfortable and I use my shoes for all but the harshest or muddiest conditions here in the temperate Surrey Hills of southern England. You should order a 1/2 size up on your usual size. That's my experience and I'm on my 4th pair now. They are not perfect. My previous pair only lasted 2 years before perished leather on the sides started to perish (and allow water ingress). I cover at least 3 or 4 miles daily dog walking as well as much longer walks from time to time. Previously I was more of a weekend walker and they lasted 3-5 years The soles, though generally grippy, can be slippy on certain surfaces, so if you're scrambling on smooth rock - or walking to work on smooth paving with many manholes in wet weather - perhaps research alternatives? A great boot for the keen, amateur walker and surprisingly inexpensive for the quality.

Great shoes having read some of the other reviews I was expecting them to leak or be uncomfortable. Initially they were noticeably hard on the soles but after a mile they were great. I have had them about a week now and walked wet grass and through shallow rivers and not hot my feet wet. Very comfy and I would recommend them to others. About to take them to Costa Rica so fingers crossed. They held up great in Costa Rica, must be some of the most comfortable shoes i have ever worn. Good grip and waterproofing. Well done Merrell! UPDATE. Amazon happily replaced these shoes after six months as they had started to split and the sole was beginning to separate from the shoe. This was great as shoes are comfy. Sadly, a further six months along and the same is happening again and the waterproofing around the toes has failed. I wear the shoes most days as I find them extremely comfortable and perfect for my daily routine and job. However, I do expect shoes like these to last longer than six months. So regrettably, dropping rating to 3 stars from 5. 😞

I've been buying and wearing some variant of the Merrell Men's Moab 2 Gtx Low Rise Hiking Shoes for over ten years. This latest pair is in the black colourway and the two pairs before that were "beluga grey". I've also had a couple of pairs in a "sand/beige" colour too. I typically wear them every day, for both work and leisure. Routine use is 12+ hours of walking and standing indoors 3-4 days a week, but I have used them to hike up mountains and walk over 15 miles on rough mixed terrain. Typically I get 2-3 years use out of each pair before replacing them - at that point they're usually not completely done for but are showing some sign of wear. Usually the shoe itself is structurally sound but the insoles have worn through and one or more layer of the paracord laces have sheared through and stripped off. Aside from the fact that I personally like the aesthetic of them their key feature is they are extraordinarily comfortable. From the first minute you put them on I find there's no breaking-in period at all. they're just good-to-go. I rate comfort as 5/5 from the beginning to the end of the shoe's life. The shoe is relatively waterproof - I find heavy rainfall is no issue at all but if you have the misfortune to stand in a very deep puddle you WILL get water ingress. Shallow puddles tend not to be a problem. Water resistance 4/5. They're not the lightest shoes, I've got some Skechers that are lighter but I don't find the weight a problem. I've rated them 4/5 because there are definitely lighter shoes available but the weight isn't really a factor for me because of the extreme comfort. You could consider laces and insoles to be a semi-consumable product if a shoe can have a long life. Historically I've never been able to replace the laces or insoles with original Merrell versions but I find that Amazon UK now sell official Merrell laces and insoles so for the first time I've been able to replace my damaged laces. This shoe in "black", in an UK size 10 comes with "Pinpoint Black" laces that are 132 cm long. Laces cost just under £7 to replace. Insoles are just under £33.

After wearing this $110 shoe for less than 4 month the shoe cracked in front side (see pic). forget waterproof -- after 10 min in light drizzle, foot completely soaked. I've been buying this shoe for last 12 years The waterproof used to last for two years -- but I've had this problem happen with last three pairs. Merrell became garbage. Too bad. It used to be an amazing shoe.

Great build but way too narrow. I ordered a 1/2 size up and still too small. Really disappointed.

Estas merrell moab2 gtx son perfectas. Comodísimas duras, impermeables... El tercer par que he comprado y como siempre un acierto. Eso sí, ojo al tallaje que en este calzado de montaña debe ser un pelín más grande que el habitual. Media talla al menos

Seit vielen Jahren trage ich gerne Trekking/Outdoorschuhe im Alltag. In der Arbeit, beim Wandern, Einkaufen, Autofahren,... in ca. 15 Jahren habe ich schon diverse Marken durch (Columbia, Raichle, Lowa, Grisport,...). Ich kaufe meine Schuhe nicht nach Marke, sondern nach Ausstattung (z.B. Gore-Tex Membran, Vibram Sohle,...), Preis (<100,-) und anderen Kriterien wie z.B. Passform. Dies ist mein zweiter Schuh von Merrell und ich bin mit der Passform sehr zufrieden, was ich bei diversen Chinakrachern (die ich auch mal ausprobiert habe) z.B. nicht war. Ich habe wie angegeben die Schuhe vor dem ersten Tragen imprägniert, und habe sie seit mehreren Wochen im "Einsatz". Ich kann definitiv nicht über Langzeiterfahrungen schreiben (diese kommen später, sofern ich es nicht vergesse). Bisher muss ich aber sagen, dass sie sich im Wintereinsatz bewährt haben. Ich bin mit den Schuhen sogar mal auf einem vereisten Waldweg eingebrochen, und war kurz bis zu den Knöcheln im Wasser gestanden... aber die Füße blieben trocken. Trotz Blitzeis und vereisten Straßen bin ich bisher auch noch nie ausgerutscht... man merkt natürlich schon, dass der Grip fehlt, aber wie gesagt, bis jetzt hat es immer gereicht. Meine Bergschuhe mit Vibramsohle von Hanwag und auch meine alten Trekkingschuhe von Columbia, die auch sehr gut waren, haben unter solchen Voraussetzungen aber auch keinen guten Grip mehr, deswegen würde ich das mit dem fehlenden Grip auf Eisflächen einfach mal unter Physik und "ist halt so, und kann man nicht ändern" abspeichern. Das einzige was mir persönlich nicht so gefällt sind die Schlaufen, in denen die Schnürsenkel geführt werden… da gefallen mir persönlich Nieten besser, weil diese beim Schnüren weniger Widerstand haben, und ich mir bei den Schlaufen auch ein wenig Sorgen mache, wann diese Ausreißen… ich bin halt jemand, der die Schuhe trägt, bis sie auseinanderfallen oder die Sohle durchgelaufen ist (d.h. bis Löcher im Schuh oder in der Sohle sind). Abschließend kann ich (bis jetzt) sagen, dass ich mir den Schuh definitiv wieder kaufen würde. Wie haltbar er ist, muss sich aber noch rausstellen (mein alter Merrell war aber wirklich haltbar, sodass ich mir da keine allzu großen Sorgen mache). Am Ende noch die kurze Anmerkung: Obwohl ich sonst meist Größe 44 trage, habe ich den Merrell Moab 2 in Größe 45 gekauft, weil man bei Merrell grundsätzlich eine Nummer größer kaufen sollte damit er passt. Langzeiterfahrung: Nach nunmehr gut 2 Jahren des täglichen Tragens kann ich auch etwas zur Langlebigkeit sagen. Ich habe die Schuhe praktisch jeden Tag (Sommer wie Winter) an. Für Hundespaziergänge, Wandern, Einkaufen, Autofahren,... Die Sohle ist noch nicht durchgelaufen, aber man sieht schon deutliche Abnutzungserscheinungen (darf bei der intensiven Nutzung aber auch sein. Die Ummantelung der Schnürsenkel ist schon länger durchgescheuert, und löst sich. Aber der innere Teil hält, und die Funktion ist damit immer noch da. Die Laschen für die Schnürsenkel (da hatte ich ja etwas Bedenken bezüglich der Langlebigkeit) halten wunderbar (ohne dass ich großartig Rücksicht genommen hätte beim schnüren). Der Schuh ist auch immer noch wunderbar dicht, und matschige Wiesen und Pfützen sind kein Problem. Der Socken bleibt trocken! Und das obwohl ich den Schuh (soweit ich mich erinnere) nur einmal am Anfang imprägniert habe. Ansonsten wurde er auch nicht gepflegt. Ich habe mir deswegen vor ein paar Tagen noch ein Paar bestellt (derzeit nicht lieferbar, aber ich hoffe dass das trotzdem was wird... der Preis ist nochmal deutlich günstiger als damals, und auch den damaligen Preis von 90 Euro war er definitiv wert).
