Clairol Root Touch Up Permanent Hair Dye, 7 Dark Blonde, Pack of 2

Works well on my dark ash blonde/ light ash brown hair. Have been using it for years. A beautician told me a trick to put a bit of activator alone on my stubborn grays for 5 minutes before coloring. Helps the greys take the color better.

I use this in between professional color treatments because it's so expensive to have my hair colored . I do the roots around my face and in my part. Sometimes if it's really gray I will use two boxes as I have very thick hair. I have brown hair with blonde highlights and this matches perfectly. It gives me an extra couple weeks of fresh color before I get my hair colored and cut again. I do leave it on longer than 10 minutes ,usually 20 to 25 minutes and I think that helps the color stay on a little longer.

As a covid-do it yourselfer, I was surprised at how easy this was to apply and how good it looked. However, it doesn't cover as well as desired. The instructions say the color requires only 10 minutes. This may work for some people, but the first time I used it, I left it on for 15-17 minutes AFTER finishing applying it to all areas I wanted to touch up, because at the salon, the color processes for nearly a half hour, sometimes with heat. I could see a bit of gray showing through almost immediately after it dried, and then after 2 weeks the gray showed pretty clearly. There is a real risk of leaving color on too long (I learned from online sites) because of damage to the hair, and my ends are damaged, despite professional application and the use of high priced conditioners, etc., so I wanted to be very careful. I tried leaving it on for 20 minutes the second time I used it. There may be a bit of an improvement, but I suspect that one has to leave it on longer than that, with resistant gray hair, if you aren't worried about the damage risk. So, you may need a lot more than 10 minutes of processing time (on top of at least 10 minutes to apply it carefully). And, while it definitely makes the gray roots less noticeable, you may not get perfect results.

Have been using this for about a year consistently. Have never had an issue when buying the 2 pack unlike some others. The color is really nice and lively (ie, not flat). I use this for gray coverage at the roots only and leave in for 20-30 minutes to get the best saturation of color. I used to spend hundreds of dollars every 3-4 weeks to get my hair done but during Covid started using this color. I think it looks almost as good as my previous professional color and I save tons of time not having to drive to the hairdresser and literally hundreds of dollars. Very pleased with the product so far.

Item is great…

It's a great quick fix for covering my gray roots especially around my face in between having my hair colored. It is just a temporary fix because it does wash out the next time you wash your hair. I will buy it again.
