Good traveling hone for your rental unit's abused knives
I bought this to keep in my travel kit, when we rent a VRBO or AirBnB. The knives in those units are ALWAYS badly treated, and need to be sharpened. I also have a carborundum stone that travels with us, but to properly sharpen a knife, you need to hone it after it's been ground. This little rod does a better job than the diamond-steel honing rod I have at home. It's a little short -- you have to hold it by the very end to make it usable. But considering how little space it takes, and the price, it's a good bargain.

Pocket friendly
I purchased the ceramic rod with the intent to carry wherever I went. The rod is a good grit helping maintain an edge on my pocket knives while away from my home. The ends of the rod are not sharp or uncomfortable to hold unto. I also find the length to make it easy to use yet compact enough to throw in a pocket. I feel that the value was fair to the price as well. I will be purchasing another to keep in my vehicle.

Great Field Sharpener
This ceramic rod serves as a field sharpener in conjunction with a diamond rod and small leather strop. I didn’t quite know what to expect in terms of the perceived grit when I got it and the best way I can explain the grit would be less than 1500 grit for sure only because I have a Green Elephant ceramic rod and that’s what that one is rated at however the interesting thing about this rod is that the texture of the rod is coarser than even the Lansky Sharp-Stick I got and that one is supposed to be 800 grit however the rod on that on is much smoother, so who’s to say you can tell the grit by the feel of the rod eh? This rod would be a great candidate for a diy handle if you are diy curious or just used bare would be a great field sharpener.

Good for Honing a Fine Edge
I've had two of these for five or six years now, and ordered a third one so I can have one available everywhere I have sharpening equipment. (I have a set of DMT pocket stones, a set of Eze-Lap pocket stones, and a DMT bench stone that I keep in different places.) I have found them to be very good for a final honing of an edge after sharpening with the diamond stones.

Adequate
It's good. Works. Would be better with a handle.
