6.1in Aircraft Aluminum Refillable Tactical Pull Cap Pen for Outdoor Survival Camping and Everyday Carry

This is my second S&W Tactical Pen, the first being a SWPENMPOD that I purchased at a local gun-show for almost twice the price (same style with the same click-on lid but in olive-drab). I have slightly more narrow hands than average, but I still find the pen fits perfectly in my hands. It is a little long for my shirt pockets (as many tactical pens seem to be) but fits nicely in the pocket of all my pants (work dress, casual, jeans, shorts, etc.). The clip is tight, so it holds very securely to objects. However, this also means it can be a pain to clip-on in the first place, not to mention that it seems like it could wear on the material it's clipped to. Despite this, it unclips very smoothly for fast/easy access. There is an optional lanyard hole in the lid but I'd imagine it'd require a nice break-away lanyard in order to be "ready for action." The pen writes well and is of sturdy construction. The lid stays on very well although I do wonder if the plastic lip the holds the lid in place will eventually wear-out. Regardless, I prefer the idea of a clip-on lid over the screw-on lid for easier access to the writing portion of the pen when I need it. Overall, I'm very pleased with this pen.

This tactical pen is extremely sturdy and has a nice solid weight and construction that makes it an effective self-defense weapon. I've used this in tandem with breaking judo holds and some other judo techniques/self-defense scenario enactments in general and I would definitely recommend this specific pen for it's quality. As a weapon this pen is a very good length and weight, and just feels very strong. The pen as a writing tool is also pretty effective and not very conspicuous, as long as the cap is on the sharp non-pen end. (It should be noted that when the cap is off the pen, the pen is pretty much symmetrical and a little less effective to use as a weapon because it feels shortened and the sharp end can't be comfortably braced against the thumb). Technically, it's a bit difficult to take the pen cap on and off. That's pretty much my only complaint. But that's fine because I rarely use this as a pen in the first place. Other notes about the pen's construction... it's easy to unscrew the pen for changing the ink, and the clip on the pen cap is strong and seems to be made of the same material as the rest of the pen. Altogether this is just a very good product that is made well and straightforward to use.

I have both this model and the SWPENBK. This one has the benefit of a pop off cap that pops on to the other end for writing, which is a major improvement over the screw off/leave off design of the earlier model. The cap is held very tightly, so can be a struggle to remove, but this may improve over time. (I'd rather have it tight than too loose.) Without the cap, the pen body is slightly shorter than the other model despite it being half a inch longer capped, the defensive tip isn't quite as sharp, and the position of the clip rides it about 1/4" higher in the pocket. It also lacks the overall taper and longitudinal grooves in favor of a checkered band for positive grip. Both models have pretty durable finishes, write very smoothly, and have a good feel and weight in the hand. So tactical features aside (and yes, you could probably inflict very nasty discouraging wounds with either model if needs must), you still have a very cool pen that writes well.

I purchased this pen with the idea that it could be something that I could carry anywhere without much scrutiny, and it certainly delivers in that department. The pen is sturdy, large, and comes equipped with a very strong clip (it has started to fray my pocket from the grip). I was, however, very surprised with the quality of line that you can get from this pen. It is a pretty standard ballpoint pen, but the ink is bold and it writes very consistently. Kudos for that! The drawback in the pen department is that the cap, while very secure, is not ideal for opening with one hand. Considering that this pen was made with police and military personnel in mind, this can be considered a minor but annoying drawback. As for the self-defense mechanics, it is quite impressive. The business end of the weapon is exposed when the writing end is closed, but the writing end can be used if needed. I tested the weapon against a 2x4 plank, and I left a very noticeable dent in the plank. The tip of the weapon was still pristine. It's no joke, and can deal a pretty serious blow. That being said, I would advise anyone who does contemplate this as a self-defense device to take classes or do some research on how to use it. If used appropriately, this can incapacitate an attacker and buy you some time to flee. If used inappropriately, it could kill an attacker, or worse leave you vulnerable to their attack. Be smart, and take the time to learn and protect yourself wisely and effectively.

This pen is perfect in the casual point of view. It's heavy, but well balanced, and tough so it feels good and solid in the hand. It writes well, (like a basic pen) but when it runs out I'll replace it with better ink. However it does write consistently on all forms of paper, loose leaf, deposit slips, receipts, newspaper, etc. Everyone is a little jealous when they see you writing with this huge pen. From a tactical point of view though it's a little different. It's a heavy addition to your load-out, but you have to take into consideration that it's both a writing utensil and a non-lethal defensive option. It would definitely serve that purpose very well. If you're carrying a pen and a cold steel koga, this will take the place of both. So with the weight comes a little more versatility. I was worried about the snap on cap failing in a tactical role, and I considered the threaded cap version, but now that i have this and I see how strong the snap on cap is I'm confident it is strong enough. I think it's a great addition whether it's used for EDC carry, or tactical use. I give it five stars. Enjoy!

Just received the pen on Thursday, and had had a few chances to use it. It is a lighter then I thought it would be and the cap is tight on the pen. The only thing that I have found that I do not like about it is the screw in for the ink, It seams to un-screw easily. I think I saw that someone used some loc-tite in it, will try it! Also there is one other thing that I noticed is a un-expected bonus, the pointed end is good to get that hard to reach spot that you need to scratch on your back. :) Over all happy with purchase. 10-19-12 Update: So having it for a few weeks and here is what I have found. I do not keep it in my breast pocket like any other pen, because with some shirts I do not have one. So to keep it on me at all time I put it in my right pants pocket. Easy to get to if I need it, always have it and looks like a pocket knife. My thought was if I had some one coming after me, I may not be able to get to my upper body to get it out, but could probably get to my pants pocket easily. The only down side is that I can feel the cap wiggling in my pocket. I know it tight, but it still wiggles. But still happy with it. Got a few comments on it, people were surprised.

I was happy enough with my first purchase of this pen, I purchased a second one in green. The plastic inside the cap provides a tight cap fit, which is great when it works but it is immediately obvious upon inspection that this component is not up to the same quality as the rest of the pen. Unfortunately this plastic is so thin and flimsy it's only a matter of time until it breaks and mine did about 15 minutes after the ups guy delivered it. I've seen people torture test these things and I suppose if I had been abusing my pen, I wouldn't be so disappointed with it breaking. However.... All I did to break mine was simply put the cap on the pen and.... crack. After inspecting the differences between my black and green pens, it became fairly apparent why my green one lasted such a short time. With my green pen, too much glue was used by the manufacturer to attach the plastic sleeve and so the fit was extremely tight, some of the glue had seeped out around the plastic. The 4th time I reattached the cap to the pen, the plastic cracked, it hasn't fallen out yet, but it has 1 crack running from the tip of the cap to the base and it now just free spins on the pen and is extremely loose. I'm going to attempt a DIY fix I've seen on youtube if I can find thin tubing of the same size. I'm also considering filling the cap with rubber cement, lubing up the pen and forming a perfect cast in place cap, I have little to lose at this point by experimenting with it. I imagine will eventually crack into tiny pieces and be useless. It's only a matter of time before my black pen also cracks. I shouldn't have to repair a product that is less than 20 minutes old. I'd exchange it, except I don't want another one. I'd return it except I guess Im a sucker for a challenge and I think I can probably make this product better than factory. They seriously need to fix this major con of an otherwise great product. I am being overly generous by giving it 3 stars. Good luck with your pen / decision / etc.

I worked in law enforcement and executive protection for many years, and I believe everyone should have a way to defend themselves in case of an unexpected attack. I am able to remove the pen from my pocket and have it in a defense hold quicker than I could draw my weapon. This item is great because it's less lethal, and is very capable to ward of an attack with out (probably) causing great bodily harm. I keep this along with a knife, and would use this way before I took it to the next level. The tactical pen is very sturdy. The cap stays on if you were to have to use it in a self defense situation. The cap is also too hard to pull off, but after using it many times, it has loosened up a little. The writing quality is also great, making this an excellent tool to carry with you daily. Be safe!!!

La penna si presenta solida, ben fatta e con buona finitura. Oltre ad essere dotata di un refill di qualità e quindi scrivere bene, la penna è assimilabile ad un kubotan ed essere quindi un ottimo strumento per autodifesa ravvicinata. Infinitamente più solida di una penna Bic (che pur scrive bene), come attrezzo da difesa, può risultare invece superfluo per chi si trova ad avere normalmente in tasca (come accade ad altri recensori) chiodi da carpentiere che pur essendo molto più economici, hanno però il difetto di bucarle e di non poter scrivere (almeno su carta). Concludendo, si tratta di un bell'oggetto, utilizzabile tutti i giorni per scrivere e (sperando che mai accada) come efficace attrezzo di difesa.

Dopo un po' di ritardo per questioni doganali e' arrivata. Sembra una cartuccia per un'arma spaziale ma e' una penna che scrive benissimo, per il resto spero che non debba servire per lo scopo principale. Ma credo che non farebbe brutta figura. Un minimo di istruzioni non guasterebbe.

Ich musste ernsthaft googlen wie das gehen soll.Sie sitzt so fest das auch mit angemessener Kraft nichts passiert. Man muss also beim abziehen darauf achten seinen Nebenmann nicht den Ellenbogen in den Arm zu rammen!!! Sehr schade für den Preis!!!!
