Equal parts action and humor add up to a wholly entertaining introduction to simplifying fractions, in this one-of-a-kind math picture book story. When a valuable fraction goes missing, George Cornelius Factor (a.k.a. GCF) vows to track it down. Knowing that the villainous Dr. Brok likes to disguise his ill-gotten fractions, G.C.F. invents a Reducer—half ray gun, half calculator— that strips away the disguise, reducing the fraction to its lowest common denominator and revealing its true form. With the Reducer in hand, George seeks out Dr. Brok in hopes of retrieving the missing fraction. David Clark’s illustrations are packed with humorous details as well as clearly defined fractions and their corresponding reduction equations. Great math adventure for kids
This is a wonderful math adventure for kids. The storyline is intriguing and interesting. The illustrations are top-notch and highly-detailed. The math is accurate and embedded in every line, every picture. Most importantly, from the story to the illustrations, the whole book makes my kids curious, asking questions, and intrigued, in general. That is wonderful. We really need more books like this on math, sciences to help kids learn from stories.

Really fun way to play around with reducing fractions
Really wasn't sure how fractions were going to be exciting but our boys LOVE this book! They're ages 8, almost 6 and 3 and they ask for this story and really get into it. The concept of the reducer is fun, especially as the main character makes it himself. Our 5yr old pointed out how the half and 2 quarters were "the same shape but cut into more pieces", so it seems perfect for natural learning. I don't often come back and write reviews but I'm so glad I got this book.
