Outstanding
I’m the type of person who always reads reviews before buying something. I saw a mix of negative and positive reviews for this waffle maker, so I was a bit hesitant. The waffle maker I had before this was the Bella — the one where you pour the waffle mix in and then rotate it to distribute the batter. I ended up returning that one because it never sat evenly while cooking; it always tilted, and I didn’t like that. I decided to try the Oster waffle maker and write my own review. I received it today and tried it out, and I’m very impressed. It cooks extremely evenly and quickly. Some reviews mentioned the cord being too short, but in my opinion, the cord length is just fine. The machine is very easy to use, and the waffles come out tasting great. The overall durability of the product also feels solid, so I definitely give this waffle maker a 10 out of 10. If you want perfectly cooked waffles, I’ve found that setting the dial slightly past the middle between “minimum” and “max” gives the best results (at least for my preference). Overall, this is a great waffle maker for anyone looking for something affordable and reliable. It’s well worth the price and pays for itself. I made chicken and waffles the first time I used it, and they turned out fantastic. Highly recommend!

For the price, it's a great basic unit.
As I write this review, I just received my third Oster waffle maker. #2 is still working but it's well used and they were on Lightning sales today for $14. This is a very basic unit with a bit of a learning curve. There is no ON/OFF button, no timer, it's somewhat shallow and doesn't flip. The lightweight material used for the plates (guessing aluminum and Teflon) doesn't make the greatest waffles as compared to cast iron plates. The thermostat is cheap with proximal sensors only. However, it is cheap, can be stored vertically and does a decent job (if you learn how to work it). --------- There are a few tricks that will lead to better waffles: 1. Ignore the READY light. Preheat this Oster so that the plates get fully hot before using it. I usually turn mine on HIGH, wait a while, test the distal edge with a small drop of water and watch for a sizzle. No sizzle, wait some more. When those plates are fully hot, pour the batter (edges first, middle last) then reduce the temp to your desired setting. I can't stress -GET IT HOT- enough. 2. I oil the plates just once before pouring the first batter (not before preheat or oil may burn). Just before I pour the batter, I give both plates a good quick spray of non-stick. The waffles will be less likely to stick and it helps gives the outsides a much better crisp. I treat my Oster like it has cast iron plates -- but that's just my preference because I like very crispy outsides and soft insides. 3. Use a real waffle mix or make your own. Waffle mixes have a higher fat and sugar content which makes better waffle texture. Combo pancake/waffle mixes or just plain pancake mixes are going to be more like waffle shaped pancakes. 4. Cold batter cooks differently than room temp batter. Cold takes longer for the fats to break down and for the sugars to caramelize. So, you will need to adjust your times and heat. 5. Don't put the top plate down immediately. I let a little steam escape then lower the top. If your oiled plates trap steam, your middles will be a different texture than the edges. Because the batter lowers the temp of the bottom plate and not the top plate, the top plate will be hotter and hit hotter batter. So, the waffles will still cook evenly. I never time how long I wait but it's maybe 10 or so seconds. 6. If your first couple of batches aren't great, be patient. You will need to experiment and practice. It took me a while before my waffle and cornbread results were perfected for my preference. For example, when my waffles weren't fully cooked in the middle and the outsides weren't crisping, I changed from 2% cold milk to 4% room temp milk, decreased milk content and replaced with room temp sour cream, added more sugar, changed to salted, room temp butter and replaced one whole egg with powdered whole egg. I kept notes using exact measurements and weights with changes (I worked in a bakery for 5 years). Upgraded from 4 stars to 5. Anything device that gives me years of good service and only costs $15 deserves 5 stars. -------------- Update 2/23/19 Units 2 and 3 still work fine, both are well seasoned and the non-stick is fully intact on both.

Good waffles, just measure the batter
The waffle maker works well and heats up quickly. The waffles come out tasty and my daughter loved them. The first time a little batter spilled because I added too much, so you just have to measure it well. After that it worked perfectly. but overall it’s a good product.

Great waffles from this inexpensive little gem
I wanted to wait a while before posting a review, so that I had time to use this multiple times. Well, it has been 10 months now, and I absolutely love this little unit. Simple to use, makes great waffles, easy to clean. And inexpensive! What more could you ask for? After reading a bunch of reviews of various wafflers, I got this unit and from the get-go had great waffles. I had to experiment a bit with the dial on it and the timing, but once I got the setting and the timing right, everything was perfect. I use coconut oil spray (from the grocery store where everyone wears Hawaiian shirts and rings bells for the manager to come over) every time I use the unit. A bonus is the great smell you get when the coconut oil spray hits the hot waffler! I wipe it down with a damp cloth every time I use it. Then put it away; it stores very compactly. I have had no problems with waffles sticking, and I have made plenty of waffles. I use 3/4 cup of batter and cook them for 4 minutes. Your mileage may vary. By the way, I make vegan waffles with no eggs, and they are excellent. I freeze the extra waffles and then, oh, joy! I can have waffles any time I want. Mmm. I am sitting here eating a waffle right now. My one complaint is that the red light is always on when the unit is plugged in. That started happening in the second or third month of use. Fortunately, the green light works properly, so I still know when the waffle iron is hot enough. (It heats up very quickly, by the way.) If you are hesitant, like I was (I remember Mom's original Teflon-coated waffle-maker that she cursed at all the time), take a chance. This is a compact, easy to use unit that will have you making waffles in no time. And you cannot beat the price! It is still under 18 bucks as of the date I am writing this. Ask for it as a Christmas gift if you don't want to spend your own money! I was considering buying a much more expensive waffle iron and this was going to be my "test run" waffler. Guess what? I have no desire to spend more money on an expensive one. This little gem does it and does it well. Recently, I stayed at a hotel where they had a free breakfast every morning. They had a commercial waffler that was heavy and you had to flip the unit over at a certain time. Ah, I said, I am now going to have "real" waffles. I was sorely disappointed! I said to my companions, "My 18 dollar waffler makes better, crisper waffles than this!".

Perfect For A Senior Couple Craving The Occasional Belgian Waffle
We're a senior family of two. From time to time waffles have been mentioned in this house but I didn't have a waffle maker and wasn't prepared to pay a lot of money for something I would only use ocassionally. Well I saw this little cheapy and decided to try it out since it was an Oster. I figured it was a Prime item so I could return it for a full refund if I wasn't happy with it. I am happy with it. Keep in mind I've only used it once. It arrived today. I washed it and set it aside. Hubby couldn't resist asking for a waffle as a midnight snack...lol. Here's what I like about it and what I'm just ok with. First of all, the waffle plates don't come out for washing and you're not suppose to submerge it in water. It's a bit of a pain in the neck to "wash" the deep grates and "rinse" them with a wash cloth. I actually did carefully spray a little water on the grates to rinse all the soap off and then quickly dried it. It's very lightweight so I help it up over the sink while I was spraying so the water wouldn't get into any of the electrical parts or have a chance to seep into crevices. The unit is small with simple basic settings. It makes one large waffle at a time. With toppings one waffle is big enough for the two of us to share unless it's for a main meal instead of a treat. One waffle is definitely big enough for a full serving and it only takes 5 minutes to make one waffle so we can live with that. Even though the grates are non stick, I brushed a wee bit of avocado oil on the them. The waffles came right out leaving no trace of residue so they can just be wiped out with a paper towel after cooling. The are two settings on top of the machine. One is to turn the waffle maker on and off. When you turn it on there's a red light that turns green when it's hot enough to make your waffle. There's another knob that just goes from "min" to "max". which supposedly regulates how dark your waffle will be. That's all there is to it. The first time out I used the basic Bisquick waffle recipe. I found that 1/2 a cup of batter was the perfect amount to make a full size waffle without batter running out the sides of the grate when you close it. When you close the lid don't press down. Just let it close easily. You'll start to see steam come out the sides. The waffle is pretty much done when the steam stops rising from the waffle maker. Don't open the lid while there's steam coming out or it will effect the quality of the waffle. I found 1/2 a cup of batter...the machine set about 3/4 of the way towards "max", and my timer set to 5 minutes produced a nicely browned Belgian waffle with a nice outside crunch and a tender fluffy center. There are some recipes in the instruction flyer. Next time I'm going to try their basic waffle recipe from scratch. It looks like it might be better than the Bisquick recipe. Looking forward to fresh strawberries from the garden and homemade whipped cream. Oh and I want to try the Chocolate Waffle recipe in the flyer...lol If any problems develop over the next year or so, I promise I'll come back and edit my review. As it seems right now this was a nice little purchase. It doesn't take up much space and it's fun to be able to make the ocassional waffle when the mood strikes. This machine is inexpensive and does a very nice job.

Here it Is: The Waffle Maker Hack You Never Thought Of
There are few items on Amazon for under $10 that are as fantastic as this mini waffle maker. My Wife and I absolutely love it, as does our Little Girl. And what's not to love about it? It makes perfect Eggo-sized waffles, in record time. I do have a few quick suggestions for anyone that's interested in getting it, as well as one terrific hack for using this waffle maker that will be a real game-changer for breakfast and desserts. First off, how to use it.... We use Krusteaz Belgian waffle mix, although just about any waffle or pancake mix will do. We recently got a KPKitchen batter dispenser for pancakes and waffles, which makes it easier to get just the right amount of batter into the waffle iron each and every time. WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE A BATTER DISPENSER? Quick pro tip I can offer you. Don't have a fancy measured batter dispenser? Next time you finish off a bottle of ketchup, mustard, squeeze jelly, etc, don't throw away the container. Wash it well. Then when you have your pancake or waffle batter mixed, just remove the top to the squeeze bottle, and pour the batter in. Pop the top back on. And now you've got an easy-squeeze bottle that lets you perfectly pour batter info waffle makers or on a frying pan. Best of all, you don't have to use all of the batter at once. When you're done making waffles, just close the cap, and stick the bottle in the fridge. It will usually stay good for 2-4 days, just don't leave it at room temp for more than two hours at a time. BACK TO MAKING THE WAFFLES.... The easiest way to "grease" the waffle maker is to simply do a quick spray of Pam on each hot plate before you start making them. If you want waffles that are soft on the outside, spray between each waffle made. If you like a golden brown, slightly crispy/crunchy texture to your waffles, you only need to use the cooking spray once. Stick to using silicone and similar spatulas (avoid using metal utensils) to remove the waffle when it's finished. What's terrific about the size of this waffle maker is that if you have a leftover waffle or two after eating, you can simply stick them in the fridge or freezer for later, and pop them into your toaster (something you can't do with regular-sized waffle makers). Okay, now to the really cool part.... You can make the most amazing waffles with this thing using just canned cinnamon rolls. Without everyone having to wait forever for cinnamon rolls to be baked in the oven. Get a can of the Pillsbury cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing. Now you can use the icing as-is, but you can make it "pourable" by adding a few ingredients. Just whisk/stir the included cream cheese icing with a cup of powdered sugar, three tablespoons of milk, and a teaspoon of vanilla. Once it's smooth, set it aside. When the waffle maker is hot and ready, stick one cinnamon roll directly in the center of it, and close the top firmly. What's going to happen is that it will slowly rise, the top will slowly move up as well. Grab the "handle" for the top and firmly press it down a second time. What this does is not only flatten the roll to completely fit the circle of the waffle iron, but ensures that it stays flat and baked through. You can eyeball and it and tell when it's made to your liking, I've found that it takes just slightly longer to make a cinnamon roll waffle than a regular waffle made with batter. Before each waffle is served, drizzle your cream cheese glaze over it. Not only do you have an amazing waffle with a taste like none other, but you don't need any type of pancake or waffle batter on hand. I experimented and also made Pillsbury orange rolls with orange icing, they were fantastic. Just remember, the key to making perfectly round cinnamon roll waffles is to close the lid not once, but a second time as the roll starts to rise in your waffle maker. There are plenty of things you can buy for ten bucks. But instead of spending ten bucks on fast food, or two iced coffees, invest it something that you'll actually use often. And when you order one of these, you'll definitely use it often. Breakfast waffles. Piping hot cinnamon roll waffles topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert. Fried chicken and waffle sandwiches. Your only limit is your imagination. You can do what I did, read plenty of reviews, and then decide to order it. Or you could just see for yourself how great it works, it's only $10. Go ahead and add it to your shopping cart, you'll be glad you did.

For just $20 It's Pretty Decent.
This is a good waffle iron for only $20. Since it's cheap there are a few flaws, however I've used it twice already and despite its cheap price it performs very well. There's some things you need to know about it however. Ths pros: The waffles do not stick to the plates. I've never used oil, butter, spray, or any kind of grease aside from the olive oil that was required in the batter recipe. They just don't stick. It heats up quickly. It doesn't take ten minutes or even five. Once you plug it in it's ready to go in one or two minutes. Very handy if you're in a rush or have a lot of people to make breakfast for. Now for the cons. The cord is extremely short. Two feet long, that's it. You're forced to use an extention cord if you want to use it anywhere other than your countertop or stovetop (I have an electric stove/oven) directly adjacent to an outlet. On top of that, the start of the cord is on the right side of the rear end of the unit, not the center of the back. That means if your outlet isn't also on the right side you lose around four inches of your already limited cord length directing it to the left around the back of the unit. During operation absolutely everything gets hot. That includes the temperature dial. I have mine set a little bit lower than the midpoint between max and min. When I went to adjust the temperature a bit lower the dial was so hot I couldn't grab it for more than a second. Had I had the temperature on max the plastic dial would have burned me. Beware of this. I'm not sure how much hotter that can get before it begins melting but it seemed pretty close to its limit on just a bit below medium heat. The hinge is very flimsy. It's not tight at all and feels like it's very loosely attached. There is a lot of side play when the iron is being opened and closed, and when it's closed the top half can easily be pushed left and right so that the edges of the two halves do not align. Very cheap and loose hinge. While it heats up quickly, the same can not be said for cooling. It takes ages to cool off enough that you can safely handle it. By ages I mean a half an hour to an hour after unplugging it having only been on medium heat. Very slow to cool. Overall it's a very decent waffle iron for the price, but the things I mentioned above need to be known before you buy it. Especially the fact that the entire unit heats up and not just the inner plates.

Awesome waffle maker, no oil needed
I wasn’t sure how well this waffle maker would work after reading some of the reviews but WOW it really makes great waffles that come out easily. The cooking surface doesn’t even need to be sprayed with oil. The other reviews are correct that this waffle maker doesn’t leave deep pockets in the waffles, but honestly who cares. I prefer the crispy setting at maximum crispness - doesn’t create a crunchy waffle but makes the outside perfectly crisp. I feel the value is excellent for the price.
