Nor is it easy to put the book down once you start reading it. Katie's engaging writing draws you into her life with the thirteen delightful children she's in the process of adopting and takes you along as she visits and ministers to all sorts of people. People who are struggling with situations most of us couldn't even imagine, but who have the same kinds of fears, hopes, and dreams we all have. Written by Katie Davis, who went to Uganda at age eighteen for a one-year mission trip and has lived there since, this book opened my eyes to some of the most economically destitute, but often spiritually rich, people there are in this world. I've heard all my life of people starving in Africa, but I have never been introduced to them as individuals with faith, fears, and longings I could relate to. Katie puts her arms around them and shows them God's love with food, medicine, tears, gentle care, and the constant message of Christ's love for them. She listens to their stories and helps each one experience the dignity of being a valuable person created in God's image, precious to the Lord and to her. She also learns from them, as she sees their gratitude, faith, and joy, despite the losses and hardships they have experienced. Young though she is, Katie lives more selflessly and wholeheartedly for Christ than most of us would think possible, and she also experiences deeper communion with Christ and more joy in him than most of us know. Throughout the book, she is honest about her own struggles and doesn't put herself on a pedestal or even think that what she is doing is extraordinary. She shows by her life how one person, relying on God's strength and following his leading, can do an extraordinary job of bringing Christ's love to those who are often least valued in the world. I finished reading this book last week, but it is still in my thoughts every day, as reading it has challenged me to rethink my priorities and examine the depth of my faith and how I live it out. I am pondering how to follow Katie's example in my own life. It is unlikely that I will go to Uganda or possibly anywhere overseas to do missions work, but I know I could live more closely with Jesus, more selflessly following him and loving the people he brings into my life. Review: It's amazing what we can do if we just follow... Kisses from Katie is wonderful!!! - I absolutely loved this book! I would have never found out about it had desertcart not recommended it to me. I'm so glad they did. After watching the video and reading the description of it I thought I would take a chance and buy it... Now I want more copies to give to friends! Katie Davis' choice to follow God's calling in her life is such an inspiration. She truly models what it means to "deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me" (Luke 9:23). She felt a tug on her heart to do mission work after high school, while having no intention of actually living overseas. But as she followed God's lead, she realized abandoning everything and going on the adventure God had for her was what she needed to do. Now 22, she raises 13 little girls, has founded a non-profit ministry to help the poor and neediest children in Uganda, and she is filled to the utmost with pure joy. Katie has written a wonderful story of her journey so far, how God has worked tremendously in her life, helping her to see through his eyes and have his heart. Katie talks extensively about the importance of loving those around us, especially the poor, orphan, widow, and outcast. You are certain to be inspired by her selfless love for others and compelled to join the ranks of the seemingly few Christians of our day who truly follow God with all their heart soul and mind, letting go of all things earthly and only living for God's glory alone. Though some parts of the book seem repetitive, some information seems left out (like how she communicates with those around her, a little is said, but I would like to know more), and her strong opinions might spark controversy - it doesn't matter! I loved every minute of learning about the Ugandan people, Katie's life, and being encouraged to help those around me and desperately search for what "big" things God would have me do in this life. Thank you, Lord, for helping Katie and others make this book a reality. Thank you for everything you have done in her life and her responsiveness to your call. May your hand bless her and her sweet children as they continue serving others and living for you. I pray that this book would inspire many others to reach out and serve like they never have before. May you show each and every one of us what you would like us to do in this life for you, bring people to us we can help, give us opportunities to share your love, hearts of boldness to go out of the comfortable and stretch into the unknown, and may an attitude of selflessness accompany all our actions. You are our King. There may be tragedy and brokenness all around us, but we know, helping merely one person can make a difference, and when this world passes, you will have the victory. You reign forever and you are mighty to save. May your name be praised and glorified by all your children.

Ordered this and can in one day. It's been a while since a book grabbed my attention. This book does that. After my mum got her hands on it I ordered my own copy so I could read it too.

An incredibly inspiring and moving account of a young person's journey and amazing faith. I was deeply moved and changed by this book. Katie's story inspired me to do more for the orphans of this world, it mobalized me into action I had not previously considered. It also brought me closer to my own son by inspiring greater patience, love and faith. It moved me to tears on many occasions, and stirred in me a desire to expand my own faith. I also ended up buying this book for a number of family members and friends to share Katie's incredible story and at the same time support the work she does. Katie is both ordinary and extraordinary, which makes this story that much more powerful. I highly recommend this gem of a book!

Kisses from Katie by Katie J Davis is a delightful, heart-warming book, similar to Mother of Malawi, that tells the story of an American teenager who became a mom to 14 girls in Uganda. If you were inspired by my biography of Annie Chikhwaza you're bound to like this New York Time best selling novel. It's poignant, funny, heart-rending and inspirational. More than that it offers much-needed direction that will vitally assist, instruct and challenge care workers and missionaries wherever they may be reaching out. "I've noticed something about people who make a difference in the world," the co-author Beth Clarke observes in the Foreword... "They hold the unshakable conviction that individuals are extremely important, that every life matters. They get excited over one smile. They are willing to feed one stomach, educate one mind, and treat one wound. They aren't determined to revolutionise the world all at once; they're satisfied with small changes. Over time, though, the small changes add up. Sometimes they even transform cities and nations, and yes, the world." Words to live up to for all who care about others and Katie Davis is certainly one who cares deeply. Like Annie Chikhwaza and others, she has sacrificed much, allowing life to take her in a direction that didn't initially fit the expectations of all those round her, but which has transformed the lives of 13 young ladies and an entire community. Katie didn't set out to be great, but she became great through her sacrificial obedience and her book `Kisses From Katie' is filled to the brim with golden nuggets that will inspire readers to reach further and do more in their own lives. As Clarke says "If you are ordinary, but hungry to obey God, may you find the strength to say yes and be launched into your very own amazing story." I loved reading Kisses From Katie on Kindle, as you can so easily highlight paragraphs that resonate deep within you and they are plentiful. You can also see how many other people have been impacted by that particular part of the book. An example of just one of these insights follows: "Sometimes working in a Third World country makes me feel like I am emptying the ocean with an eyedropper," Katie writes. "Today, it often still feels that way. I have learned to be okay with this feeling because I have learned that I will not change the world. Jesus will do that. I can however, change the world for one person. I can change the world for 14 little girls..."
