Will this work for fire brick?

Use real fire brick. They’re inexpensive and they withstand higher heat that the clay. Clay will also be too brittle to withstand the day to day use.

This clay feels very much like porcelain is it porcelain?

I’m pretty sure that it’s not porcelain which is fine grained, fired at high temperature, and contains quartz and feldspar. Your clay fires at a lower temperature and will have a dull pink look when fired. Porcelain fires to a white color.
