Sometimes it takes pretty well, other times, using it exactly as directed, it seems to just completely come off with standard gun CLPs even with meticulous prep. Haven't tried stainless steels, my experience has just been different grades of NON stainless steels. I don't think there is a better home option for blackening steel in any case. Not a bad product, but manage your expectations.
