Great assist
I love this thing. Albeit I got it at $400 flat, so it helps my review, but I am now able to assist all my physicians and MA’s in my practice for hard sticks when they get a difficult patient. It gives me an extra edge in case I can’t get it done by feel myself. If something helps me manage the practice, I am indebted to it. If it involves the clinical side of things, I am even more happy. The patient always comes first and I am happy to make their lives a little easier with this device at its cost.

Not Useful
Let's be honest: this is a glorified flashlight -- for $600. Not sure who is giving the 5-star reviews, but we run an infusion center so we look for veins all day every day. This device added almost no value.

My patients LOVE it!
This works very well. I have used this, somedays a lot. I only use when I hear the patient is a "difficult stick", when time is of the essence, or I only have one extremity to work with. When I get a patient that tells me they are a "difficult stick" and tell me stories about how they got 10 - 15 sticks in a visit before an IV was finally placed, I just start with this and it helps them relax a bit. I have gotten more of the difficult sticks with the light than without. It finds veins that no one could find by palpation. A few skeptical nurses I have used this with on their patients became converts and bought their own. Doesn't guarantee the IV can be placed, but you can tell if the vein is usable, straight enough & even the size of the vein. I see people attempting to put 18ga in size 24ga veins and wonder why they blow. This light helps you choose the vein and the size of the IV on certain patients. No veinlight will go through tattoos so if you can't feel the vein, use ultrasound if necessary. This hasn't been a good tool for finding those deeper veins as the advertising indicated. For those, if necessary I go to the ultrasound machine.

Excellent Vascular Access Tool
When I first started working in a hospital, I had no experience placing IV's, and I was terrible. I was one of those nurses patients tell horror stories about being stuck multiple times. So I did some research on ways to improve. YouTube videos were helpful in theory, but not in practice. Then I came across the veinlite. It was more money than I wanted to spend, but with a 90 day money back guarantee, I gave it a shot. Almost immediately, I started placing IV's on my first attempt. That was 8 years ago, and my original veinlite is still going strong, . I am the go-to nurse for IV insertion for all the hard sticks. I haven't missed in a very long time. Patients ask for me..."I want the nurse with the machine." With that said, you still need to have excellent IV insertion skills. You still need to know the angle you need based on how the vein lights up, the needle gauge most appropriate, and be able to hold the veinlite while make a very fluid move. But it takes the guesswork out of finding veins you can't visualize with the naked eye, or palpate. I need the visual, which the veinlite gives. Palpation is less important to me. I don't keep track of the number of IV's I put in (probably should), and what my first time suceess rate is, but I would guess my last 100 is somewhere around 95%, another 3% for 2nd attempts, and 2% that I had to refer for US Guided placement. Pretty amazing stats, which is only possible [for me] with the veinlite. I gave it 4 stars because there are some improvements that could be made. The first one is that you have to hold the light directly on the skin with one hand, so you now only have one free hand. You can have a second person hold it (second person can be the patient if they're willing), but it needs to be held at just the right pressure. Pressing it too firmly can skew how the vein appears, and pressing too lightly can diminish your visual. Your second person helper is not used to how the veinlite works, so it can be a lot of set-up, which sometimes makes the patient more anxious. You can lay the veinlite on the skin without holding it, but only for certain veins and angles. It would be helpful to have an adjustable velcro strap, as I've seen some other brands have. Most nurses are "feelers" when it comes to IV insertion, and it's often extremely difficult to find a palpable vein on an edematous patient. This is where this tool truly shines. Patients that claim they're "hard sticks," and dread having a new IV placed are the ones I win over constantly. Something about the extravascular fluid really makes the veins stand out. And a lot of times, these patients have excellent veins, they're just hidden from the naked eye. A few people said in their reviews that it only works for light-skinned people. This simply is not true. It works equally well on light and dark skinned patients. However, it doesn't work on everyone, and I don't have an explanation for that. But the % of people you can't find a viable vein on is minimal, maybe 1%. In my opinion, this is the best tool out there for vascular access. The pros far outweigh the cons. But remember, you still have to insert the IV, this just guides you to where you need to be. But once you get used to it, your skills will get better with each IV placement. The initial cost is high, but I've now had my veinlite for 8 years, so for me, it was an investment well worth the cost. Hope this helps.

I came across this product on a dental course. I was really impressed as to how easily you can find veins with the light. I use this daily in my dental practice to do sedation and draw blood for PRF procedures. I did not know the price of this item when I first came across it . So the price is going to be a surprise when you first find out how much an led light is costing.BUT it is worth the price. This product has removed the stress you encounter when finding a vein for a challenging case and as a result the doctor and the patient are both relaxed and the procedure and your day goes really well. 😃 I would buy another one if I had do and recommended this wholeheartedly.
